Title of the Unit: Let´s go to the town

Contextualization: This didactic unit has been created for children

of 6 th grade for a public school in a rural location; student’s English

level is A2.

Justification: I picked the topic because it is a closed topic for them,

where they can see the part of the town and its elements in their

daily life.

Organization of the Didactic Unit: This didactic unit is the number

6 of the Didactic programming and it will be carried out in the two

final weeks of July. The didactic unit is going to be developed in five

sessions of 40 and 50 minutes each one.

General Objective

To acquire the basic communicate competence

that allows students to express and understand

simple messages to develop in daily situations.

Specific Objectives

*To develop habits for individual and

collaborative work, personal initiative,

critical sense, creativity and curiosity in the

learning.

*To be able to ask and give information and

instructions about how to get to a place.

*To be able to describe a specific place.

*To answer and made questions.

*To use formal expressions for gratitude and

attention.

Communicative dimension: Students have to

show their communicative abilities focus on:

asking and giving directions, describing places,

requesting information, asking for attention,

giving thanks and locating places.

Linguistic dimension: To develop the

communicative ability, students will use some

structures and vocabulary which they are going

to use as tools to develop their skills. Taking

into account the following aspects.

Places of the town: School, park, shop, barber

shop, etc.

Parts of the town: Suburbs, neighborhood.

Kinds of buildings: Flats, farms or houses.

*Basic structures: To use questions like:

Where is the…(place)?

How can I get to…(place)

Giving instructions (go straight, turn right,

go outside, cross the street and so on)

Asking for attention (excuse me,… could

you help me,…)

The communicative language skills that will be

practiced is speaking and listening, in work

activities giving and asking for directions.

Students are going to promote the interest

towards other cultures and places to live.

Warm up: To introduce the contents of the

session. Looking a video about living in a town.

*Read a text and answer questions.

*Match some definitions about elements of the

town.

Practice activity: Students are going to listen

to a recorder about a comic of the book.

Then, they have to answer a true or false

questionnaire about the comic.

Using the comic pictures students have to

complete sentences with there is / there are.

Production activity: Students have to create a

dialogue according to the comic and the text

they have read, using there is and there are and

all the vocabulary they have learnt about the

town.

Methodology

The main purpose of this activity is to use the

foreign language in communicative situations,

so, they have to work individually creating

questions and asking for instructions and also

students have to work in pairs for creating

dialogues.

Student’s reading skills: I am going to evaluate

it when students read aloud in class.

Student’s listening skills: After the listening I

will do some comprehension questions I order

to know what they have understood.

Student’s speaking skills: I am going to

evaluate student’s fluency and the use of

vocabulary and structure.
