-Regulations need to be<br />
drafted for the Bill.<br />
CITES Act already been<br />
accepted, however neither<br />
commencement date nor<br />
regulations developed.<br />
CITES secretariat promised<br />
to assist the funding<br />
of a drafter to develop<br />
regulations. Forestry<br />
Department will write the<br />
CITES Secretariat to request<br />
formally for the funding to<br />
draft Regulations.<br />
Currently being reviewed<br />
by a Consultant. A report is<br />
due shortly to chart the way<br />
forward etc.<br />
-Whilst the Waste<br />
Management Act has some<br />
provisions of the Basel<br />
Convention, most of the<br />
obligations can be governed<br />
in a new piece of legislation<br />
to cover the convention.<br />
-The Waste Management<br />
Act with its Amendment<br />
(10/2007) do make some<br />
provisions, however the draft<br />
model legislation developed<br />
for the parties shows<br />
some inconsistencies and<br />
deficiencies.<br />
To be revised and<br />
determined whether the<br />
current Forest, Soil and<br />
Water Conservation Act<br />
should be revised.<br />
