Skyshelter.zip is designed to quickly and

efficiently respond to unpredictable

natural disasters that are recently becoming

more common and devastating.

The entire structure of Skyshelter.zip

is foldable in a manner that resembles

origami. This means that it can be neatly

packaged into a single relatively small

box that can be moved anywhere with

the help of helicopters commonly used

by rescue teams and military in the event

of a natural disaster. Because elements

do not have to be transported in batches

by trucks, it is easier and faster to

reach zones cut off from transportation

system. Light-weight 3D-printed

slabs are attached directly to helium balloon

in succeeding manner and pulled

upwards by its load-bearing force and

structural steel wires that once strained

are capable of resisting horizontal wind

forces. Depending on the amount of gas

poured into the balloon, one can control

the number of floors that are unfolding.

This way, with single, mass produced

module it is possible to attend different-scale,

unpredictable events.

EXHIBITION

at Poznan University of Technology, 2017

Considerable noise and dust pollution

in the area resulted in a proposal of an

openwork front facade in form of air-filtering

and sound-dampening vertical

gardens. Inhabitants can personalize

the look and properties of the portion

of the facade that corresponds with

their apartment by choosing the type

of creeping plants grown on their balconies.

This choice determines unique

qualities of the apartment itself, tailored

to the needs of its inhabitants (for example

evergreen plants filter more pollution

over the winter but deciduous ones let in

more light during shorter days while still

preventing the apartment from overheating

in the summertime). The shape of

the building reflects local zoning law restrictions,

results of preliminary analysis

and refers to the cornices and windows

of adjacent buildings as well as typical

local brickwork pattern. On the first

floor the design includes a shop offering

plants and gardening inventory. Bachelor’s

degree diploma thesis.

The project responds to the growing

problem of deficiency of space for cemeteries

in Tokyo and their lack of integration

with the urban fabric of the city.

The form is based on the relationship

between slender cuboids made of radically

different materials and with different

functional solutions and void between

them. This way three radically different

spatial experiences were created: the

cemetery proper that is ethereally linked

to the city, the space dedicated to supporting

functions and prayer that’s cut off

from the views, as well as a multi-story

vertical park with view of Tokyo landmarks

being the place of both relaxation

and reflection. This proposal is a metaphor

for the harmonious coexistence

and contact of two worlds: the living

and the dead. Depending on the needs,

it is possible to implement this solution

on many plots in other parts of the city,

adapting the pattern visible in the facade

in such a way that different buildings will

not be confused with each other and

could become individual landmarks.

THE LOST CITY

Multifunctional infill structures in

Wroclaw, Poland.

MENTION

in Polish Competition

European Copper Institute

Best Diploma Thesis Using

Copper or Its Alloys, 2019

As a consequence of World War II damages

and post-war demolitions, numerous

buildings in Wroclaw city center

ceased to exist, drastically altering the

city’s urban structure. Subsequent reconstruction,

carried out primarily according

to modernist movement guidelines,

in many cases failed to recreate

identities, shapes and functionalities

of original quarters. The Lost City project

focuses on identifying such areas

through means of historical and spatial

analyses and attempts to solve their

problems while keeping all existing

structures and greenery intact. In order

to achieve that, the author proposes

introducing spatial structures on already

built-up plots. Those scaffolding-resembling

structures would recreate historical

shapes of non-existing buildings

in symbolic and abstract way while,

depending on needs of specific location,

also serving as a base for diverse additional

functions. Master’s degree diploma

Archaeological museum on mountain

slope in Delphi, Greece.

PRINT PUBLICATION

in Learning from Greece

edited by Alberto Campo Baeza,

Madrid 2016

The museum was designed in mountainous

terrain, with steep slopes and difficult

foundation work conditions. A linear

composition of the interior clearly translates

into a museum tour route with separate

entrance and exit. Various functions

(auditorium, exhibition rooms with

storage, museum shop, office spaces)

are arranged inside white boxes, adjusted

to match desired functions with their

dimensions and layout of windows or

skylights, which in turn creates a sense

of visual hierarchy. Strongly expressive

form of steel connector follows the

mountain’s contour lines and binds

the building together. It hosts communication

spaces, temporary exhibitions,

toilets, a restaurant with viewpoint and

a box office and structurally serves as a

retaining wall.

OUTSIDE

AND INSIDE

Concert hall by the Odra riverside in

Wroclaw, Poland.

The most distinctive feature of the design

- its amphitheater-like northern elevation

with large number of steps and

seats - was inspired directly by the site’s

context. Neighboring a park, only a few

meters away from the riverside and

overlooking Wroclaw’s Cathedral Island,

the location creates an opportunity

to use this backdrop and perform

music not only inside the building but

also outside of it. Deviating from logical,

rectangular divisions and shapes used

elsewhere, organic wooden auditorium

invites citizens to use it as a viewing platform

and allows the park to be transformed

into a music venue during

public events. That is where café and

secondary entrance (at elevated foyer’s

level) are located.

ART HOUSING

Art gallery and hostel with workshops

for artists in Berlin, Germany.

MENTION

in International Competition

Start for Talents

Over the Wall, 2015

An essential element of the design is

the facade of the building: composed of

vertical “razor blades”, covered with

two-sided graffiti (referring to the contemporary

culture and character of the

district, commemorating the most creative

attempts to penetrate the Berlin

Wall, formerly on the site). The old

course of the wall was clearly emphasized

in the building’s design and site

plan. Depending on the direction of

movement, the passer-by observes a

different mural painting (left/right side

of “razor blades”), which translates into

the intriguing dynamics of the seemingly

static composition that recreates the

shape of the original prewar quarter.

Proposed facade system transforms the entire building

into a canvas for spatial graffiti created by local artists.
