WATERFORD
CURRAGHMORE HOUSE
Portlaw, Co. Waterford
Curraghmore House in Waterford is
the historic home of the 9th Marquis
of Waterford. His ancestors (the
de la Poers) came to Ireland from
Normandy after a 100-year stopover
in Wales around 1170. 2,500 acres of
gardens, woodland and fields make it
the largest private demesne in Ireland.
It features one of the tallest trees in
Ireland, the oldest bridge in Ireland
dating back to 1205, twelve miles
of famine relief boundary walls, and
an original castle tower. Group tours
available by appointment.
