The 1,213-acre area provides essentialhabitat for many bird species. A 121-acre portion of the areawas renamed the Shriver-Wright State Wildlife Area to honorcommunity leaders, Doug Shriver and Ray Wright, who diedin 2010.96 ROCK CREEK — The moderate hike along the RockCreek trail offers a number of scenic views of the valley, and is
the trail came through the San Luis Valley. At a site west of MonteVista on U.S. Highway 160 are stone markers marking one of thebranches with access to hiking and biking and the Limekiln area.The Town of Del Norte’s Lookout Mountain Trails offers diverseexperiences for hikers, bicyclists and equestrians. The one-mile trailto the USGS named summit at 8,475 feet is moderately difficultwith craggy switchbacks near the top. At the summit, view the entireSan Luis Valley and Upper Rio Grande. An additional 3.5 miles ofeasy trails loop around the mountain near the base.99 DEL MONTE GUN CLUB —Located between Alamosaand Monte Vista on Highway 160, the course offers sportingclays, trap and the “what cha call it” stand.
