PALLET IDENTIFICATION
Pallets need large and easy-to-read shipping labels that meet
current GS1 requirements for identification. There are many
different pallet labeling solutions available and it depends
on the specific requirements which fits best. The labels can
be sticked to the pallet manually or automatically with print
& apply solutions. In large productions with a lot of pallets
and different data, complete automatic systems like the XPU

barcodes, addresses, information and logos are printed and
applied automatically on two sides of the pallet.
THE CORRECT STRUCTURE OF THE GS1 TRANSPORT LABELS
Header segment: Contains freely formatable information,
e.g. specification of the sender as well as the recipient.
Center segment: Plain text indication of the information
encoded in the barcode. The data content should be
printed with a font height of at least 7 mm.
Foot segment: The data is encoded in the GS1-128 barcode.
The SSCC is the only mandatory information on
the transport label.
