PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION
Product identification means perfectly representing the brand and at the same time providing
industry-relevant, easy-to-read information on the product. Print & apply systems should be
flexible to fit exactly the label application needed in regards to size, shape, position and
material.

No matter what type of labels need to be placed, whether
of ingredients, instructions for use, promotional, decorative
or tamper-evident labels: An identification system such as
the XLA from NOVEXX Solutions places labels reliably and
accurately from above, from the side or even wrapped around
the product. Each product has its own characteristics, special
features and challenges.
In an internationally operating glass company based in
Ulm, Germany, glass panes need to be labeled that move
horizontally on the conveyor belt. First, information and
barcodes are printed on a label using a Print & Apply
System from NOVEXX Solutions. Then, the applicator,
which is part of the solution, gently blows the ready-printed
label on the glass pane using compressed air.

CARTON IDENTIFICATION
Cartons and outer packaging must also be identified with easily readable and reliable
information, and shipping labels must comply with current GS1 requirements. Industrial print &
apply solutions can automaticly label the packaging units with barcodes, logos, information
and RFID. Information should be applied in real time and in high print quality – on the top,
side or corner. A suitable identification system such as the XPA 93x can meet the latest industry
4.0 standards and offer flexibility for individual adaptation to supply chain processes. This can
significantly increase productivity and reduce costs.
The battery manufacturer VARTA relies on Labeling Solutions from

transfer ribbon is used at areas where the label does not need
to be printed. This leads to lower ribbon consumption, reduced

PALLET IDENTIFICATION
Pallets need large and easy-to-read shipping labels that meet
current GS1 requirements for identification. There are many
different pallet labeling solutions available and it depends
on the specific requirements which fits best. The labels can
be sticked to the pallet manually or automatically with print
& apply solutions. In large productions with a lot of pallets
and different data, complete automatic systems like the XPU
from NOVEXX Solutions can be integrated. The labels with
barcodes, addresses, information and logos are printed and
applied automatically on two sides of the pallet.
THE CORRECT STRUCTURE OF THE GS1 TRANSPORT LABELS
Header segment: Contains freely formatable information,
e.g. specification of the sender as well as the recipient.
Center segment: Plain text indication of the information
encoded in the barcode. The data content should be
printed with a font height of at least 7 mm.
Foot segment: The data is encoded in the GS1-128 barcode.
The SSCC is the only mandatory information on
the transport label.
