HIDDEN POTENTIAL
IN IDENTIFICATION
SUCCESS FACTORS FOR AN
OPTIMIZED LABELING PROCESS

RIGHT SOLUTION – PERFECT INTEGRATION
Brand strength, quality, productivity, and low costs are among the most important requirements
of companies that manufacture, pick, pack, or ship products. As an integral part of these
processes, the identification plays a key role.
Identification systems should be easy to integrate into the existing production and
packaging line. Reliability, speed, innovative technologies and industrial robustness are
required to move products efficiently through the supply chain – and to ensure the success
of the company. Print & apply systems where hardware, software, consumables and
service & support are perfectly matched, enable significant cost savings.
HIDDEN POTENTIAL IN IDENTIFICATION

MANAGING DATA CORRECTLY
Manufacturers and suppliers must comply with certain regulations for the benefit of end
customers. These include product information, product safety, and legal requirements
and regulations. For example, individual products, cartons and pallets must contain all
relevant shipping information in perfect readable print quality. User-oriented, easy-to-use
identification solutions, in combination with central data management software, ensure
that individual print data is fed into the production line in sync with production and that
all products, cartons and pallets are labeled precisely with perfect print result. This
eliminates unnecessary sources of error, increases production volumes and saves costs.
A well working identification system frees up resources for other tasks and future identification
costs also become more predictable. In short: perfectly coordinated identification solutions
enable a maximum ROI in the shortest possible time.
Along Beiersdorf‘s global manufacturing chain, Trace-it®,
the data management software from NOVEXX Solutions,
ensures maximum efficiency, flexibility, accuracy and
transparency. Traceability of production is ensured by a
direct link between ERP data and the production process.
„NOVEXX Solutions has
successfully demonstrated
how its Trace-it® data
management software
enhances performance and
strengthens brands.“
This example impressively shows how important it is to rely on the know-how of experienced
suppliers when integrating identification solutions. Only with reliable systems all requirements
can be fulfilled and the best price-performance ratio can be achieved.
HIDDEN POTENTIAL IN IDENTIFICATION

PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION
Product identification means perfectly representing the brand and at the same time providing
industry-relevant, easy-to-read information on the product. Print & apply systems should be
flexible to fit exactly the label application needed in regards to size, shape, position and
material.
XLA
No matter what type of labels need to be placed, whether
of ingredients, instructions for use, promotional, decorative
or tamper-evident labels: An identification system such as
the XLA from NOVEXX Solutions places labels reliably and
accurately from above, from the side or even wrapped around
the product. Each product has its own characteristics, special
features and challenges.
In an internationally operating glass company based in
Ulm, Germany, glass panes need to be labeled that move
horizontally on the conveyor belt. First, information and
barcodes are printed on a label using a Print & Apply
System from NOVEXX Solutions. Then, the applicator,
which is part of the solution, gently blows the ready-printed
label on the glass pane using compressed air.
CARTON IDENTIFICATION
Cartons and outer packaging must also be identified with easily readable and reliable
information, and shipping labels must comply with current GS1 requirements. Industrial print &
apply solutions can automaticly label the packaging units with barcodes, logos, information
and RFID. Information should be applied in real time and in high print quality – on the top,
side or corner. A suitable identification system such as the XPA 93x can meet the latest industry
4.0 standards and offer flexibility for individual adaptation to supply chain processes. This can
significantly increase productivity and reduce costs.
The battery manufacturer VARTA relies on Labeling Solutions from
NOVEXX Solutions to achieve these goals. On 15 packaging
and production lines, 32 systems from NOVEXX Solutions are
installed to label cartons and pallets. In addition to brilliant print
results and diverse application options, these systems score with
another special feature: the Ribbon Save Function. No thermal
transfer ribbon is used at areas where the label does not need
to be printed. This leads to lower ribbon consumption, reduced
costs, longer print head life, less downtime and it protects the
environment by reducing waste and chemicals.
THE CAPITAL IN IDENTIFICATION

PALLET IDENTIFICATION
Pallets need large and easy-to-read shipping labels that meet
current GS1 requirements for identification. There are many
different pallet labeling solutions available and it depends
on the specific requirements which fits best. The labels can
be sticked to the pallet manually or automatically with print
& apply solutions. In large productions with a lot of pallets
and different data, complete automatic systems like the XPU
from NOVEXX Solutions can be integrated. The labels with
barcodes, addresses, information and logos are printed and
applied automatically on two sides of the pallet.
THE CORRECT STRUCTURE OF THE GS1 TRANSPORT LABELS
Header segment: Contains freely formatable information,
e.g. specification of the sender as well as the recipient.
Center segment: Plain text indication of the information
encoded in the barcode. The data content should be
printed with a font height of at least 7 mm.
Foot segment: The data is encoded in the GS1-128 barcode.
The SSCC is the only mandatory information on
the transport label.
XPU
A leading global manufacturer of personal care and
cleaning products relies on the automated Pallet Labeling
Solution XPU from NOVEXX Solutions for its final packaging.
This ensures that the products enter the global supply chain
compliant and perfectly labeled.
