When I started Tsoga O Phande magazine last year
N O T E
September I was not clear about it's direction and
what we wanted to be known for, after taking some
time away and focused most of my time into growing
my brand and understanding the publication
industry, I gradually got a sense of who we are and
what we want to be known for.
TSOGA O PHANDE is a well-known expression that
we have all heard at some point in our lives. This is a
remark that both entrepreneurs and hustlers can
agree on. As a digital publication, we want to join you
on your journey of entrepreneurship , celebrating
every milestone along the way.
My name is Lerato Mpolaisi. I am a writer by profession, businesswoman and film and television production
graduate. As I progressed in the business world, I became increasingly motivated, and after conversing with
entrepreneurs, I noticed a gap in the market; there are so many businesses, however one issue we encounter is a lack
of marketing abilities.
Tsoga O phande is an online publication that strives to provide small businesses and entrepreneurs with a platform.
A platform for them to market, to promote themselves and expand into the business world.
We have featured exceptional entrepreneurs and creatives who are making a significant difference in the world of
business which inspired the name of the edition which is "INDEPENDENTLY CREATIVE."
This issue delves into the arts and aesthetics of entrepreneurship, particularly the beauty of the brand-building
process.
I'd want to take this opportunity to thank each and every entrepreneur and creative whom we worked on this
incredible issue. Your devotion and hard work have truly inspired me.
ENJOY.
She had always planned to run her own
building and devoting her focus into her
business
The company's name is unique and
conveys a powerful message, which she
The love of art and design, as well as
the passion and drive I have for
What kind of Impact did
the pandemic have on your
business?
The business was doing well
until our president called a
"family meeting." A lot of clients
had to postpone, which had a
negative impact on the business.
We had touch base meetings
despite the distance in order to
check if the client wanted to
make any changes, which helped
us stay on track with everything.
What kind of services do
you offer?
When it comes to event
organizing, we are diversified,
but we specialize in
1. Birthday celebrations.
2. Picnics
3. Baby showers
However, weddings are our
main focus. This is how we
want to be recognized.

LIVE AND BUILD
A PURPOSEFUL
LIFE- TUMI
BY LERATO MPOLAISI
My father lost his job in 2016, and I was obliged
to start seeking for work. I started seeking
employment and ended up working as a PA
for a company called Liberty Life, but I wasn't
satisfied there.
In my spare time, I would watch make-up
tutorial videos on YouTube. It piqued my
curiosity tremendously. When I returned home
from work,
My roommate and I were sharing an
apartment. When I got home from work, I'd try
out anything I'd learnt on her, and that's when
my fascination for make-up blossomed.
It is said that practice makes perfect. I began
practicing until I felt ready to share my work
on Instagram. People adore it, and it was from
there that I began to grow my clientele.
Spending that one hour with my customers
doing their faces gave me such much
satisfaction, and seeing how much they
adored what I did made me so proud.
I likes speaking life into things. I use my time
with my clients to talk to them and encourage
them. It is a whole entire experience for me
and for them. I don't want to be with a client
and have them leave without speaking a word
to them.
It became therapeutic for me, and seeing how
it made others feel made me feel good about
myself, knowing that I could help the next
person feel confident. That's when it evolved
into a passion, and I realized that my purpose
is to make other women feel good about
themselves on a holistic level.
WORK, YOU'LL NOTICE
THAT I DON'T OVERLY
ALTER PEOPLE BUT RATHER
ENHANCE WHAT THEY
ALREADY HAVE.
TUMI
I had a low self-esteem as a child. I despised
what I saw in the mirror until I chose to shift
my perspective of who I am and how I look,
and I intended to love and appreciate myself.
I know how it feels to be resentful of yourself,
which is why I try to instill positivity in my
clients. I have come across confident women,
however the majority of my clients are
insecure. I constantly compliment them on
their beauty and tell them that they are
beautiful in their own skin.
If you look at my work, you'll see that I don't
make drastic changes in order to alter your
appearance. "You are stunning. Own it"
I pride myself on enhancing what is already
there so that they can appreciate their natural
features, and I adore how my clients leave
feeling so confident and appreciating their
true beauty for what it is.

Establishing a brand requires a lot of hard
work and devotion, as well as constantly
challenging yourself and being able to
incorporate into your creative process
irrespective of how you're feeling and never
having to give up.
The idea is to be present at all three different
stages of the sales process. Pre-sale
(manufacturing high-quality merchandise)
(Ensuring deliveries are made on time and to
the correct recipient) After-Sale (Collecting
feedback from customers for growth and
improvement).
The most difficult element was figuring out
how I was going to approach people, where
and how I was going to attract the target
audience, and I ultimately came up with the
concept of being varied and creating a brand
for everyone.

THE IMPORTANCE
OF NETWROKING
TIPS FOR NETWORKING EFFECTIVELY
Look for the right people.
Reach out to the people who can
provide you with the specific help
you need. If you are interested in
a different field, connect with
friends or family members who
work in that industry. If you hope
to switch to a new department in
your workplace, talk to your
colleagues who are a part of that
team. You never know who might
be able to help you at a later
date, so make sure to connect
with people working in a variety
of industries and positions.
Be proactive.
Cultivating your network yearround
is crucial to maintaining
beneficial connections. If you
suddenly message a friend you
have not spoken to since high
school, they may not want to
recommend you to their employer.
Maintaining pleasant
relationships with your extended
network at all times, even just by
sending a short email to say
hello, is the best way to make
sure they are willing to help when
you need them.
Know how to give and take.
It is important to keep track of what
the different contacts in your
network can offer you. You will need
to remember which of your previous
coworkers now works in finance or
which started teaching philosophy.
Equally important is to know what
you have to offer as a contact.
Ideally, networking should be
mutually beneficial, so be sure to
let your network know how you can
help them. If you are willing to
support your friends, they are more
likely to return the favor.
Use your resources
It has become easier to maintain a
professional network due to
technology. The internet is a valuable
resource for creating, cultivating and
communicating with your contacts.
Use social media platforms to reach
out to professionals in your area, to
reconnect with old friends and to start
a conversation with the people you
meet while on the job. Sending a
friend request or a brief message to a
new contact may help them remember
you and encourage them to seek out a
mutual relationship.
P A G E 3 | L O N E P L A N E T
Networking allows you access to
opportunities you might not be able
to find on your own. Your network
has the potential to provide you
with insight into different fields,
information on what potential
employers look for and advice on
how you can improve
professionally.
Seek out networking events
Socializing in person is still
your best chance of creating
a successful network.
Attending company mixers,
corporate retreats or
community events will
expose you to a variety of
important contacts. Most
likely, others at the events
will also be networking and
will be happy to exchange
business cards or contact
information. Be aware of your
company’s social calendar,
your alma mater’s reunion
schedule and your
community’s social scene to
find promising events.
CHARLIE SAMSON
If there’s one thing I wish I could
take away is the sexual harassment
that women face in our industry. I’d
get rid of all the producers and
directors who put women in a
position whereby they have to
sleep with them in order to get a
It’d take away the 25% tax that we
have to pay. I’d also pay royalties to
UZOBUYA...
\Uzobuya was a special film and I’m forever
grateful to Mzansi Magic and Sanele Shibe
for giving us the opportunity to tell such an
important story that challenged genderstereotypes
and roles in a household. It
followed a stay-at-home father who gives
everything to his beautiful wife and
precious 10 year old daughter… but his only
mistake/flaw is that he doesn’t work (and
that’s by choice) and in society that we live
in that’s a no-no and to be able to challenge
those stereotypes and start a dialogue was a
blessing. The conversation on twitter didn’t
stop and lasted the whole night. It was
amazing to see that we had connected with
so many people in just 54min and made an
impact.
Out of all the films you have directed,
which one is close your heart and why?
Uzobuya is definitely and will always
remain close to my heart especially the
time it was made and the constraints we
faced as young creatives. And to deliver
what we delivered made it all worth it. I
made the film with creatives my age
during the Multichoice Talent Factory, it
was a great way to end of my journey with
walk your journey - theo baloyi
Bathu Shoes founder and entrepreneur, Theo Baloyi, was recently
awarded Top Empowerment’s Top Empowered Young Achiever of the
Year for 2020, in the midst of his pro-African sneaker brand’s major
success story – and this is only the beginning!
The Bathu story is more than just a story of sneakers. It’s a story of
claiming your purpose in life, staying true to who you really are, and
pursuing your dreams and doing something you are actually
passionate about. His is a story of walking your destined path. His
narrative is truly an inspirational tale of diligence, detailing how
believing in yourself despite all obstacles could lead to
unprecedented levels of success.
Born and raised in Gauteng, Theo
lived with his uncle in the township
of Alexandra, whilst pursuing a BCom
Accounting degree. Upon receiving
his accounting qualification, and
landing a job with PwC, Theo then
moved to Dubai, achieving financial
security for himself and his family
following his father passing. During
his experience in the Middle East,
the award-winning 30 year-old
accountant began his
entrepreneurial journey, detecting a
gap in the sneaker market. Through
an international lens, a void in the
market could be seen, there was a
need for an authentic African
sneaker brand ─
Theo made it
his mission to tell an authentically
honest African story through his new
venture.
Theo’s concept was ingenuous:
create a sneaker business with
shoes produced locally, which would
ultimately become as popular as any
other global sneaker brand.
BOY MASHESHA
DI
pusha passion
Di boy Mashehsa, was born in the
south western township. He is the
youngest of three siblings. We all
know him as a kind, enthusiastic,
and humorous young man, but in
this article, he unpacks many of
the elements that have aided him
in becoming the man he is today.
Di boy Mashesa serves as a station
manager at box shop online radio.
He's the co-founder and creative
director of the official major
world brand. The company's
primary goal was to provide a
platform for up-and-coming
artists. The business evolved over
time, and they now host events.
our latest event was "streezday"
Official main world is more than
just an artist management
organization; it also functions as a
creative consultancy firm. where
they have aided a large number of
new, start-up enterprises with
various obstacles they have
encountered.
When I was nine years old, I
discovered my passion. I've always
known what I wanted to do with
my life and knew I wanted to host
and become a DJ from an early
age.
I had to save up my pocket money
to purchase sweets and sell them
while I was in high school; it was
at this time that I discovered
myself and my true character. I
had no idea what I was doing at
the time, but I had a goal.
I've always adored radio, and I'm
proud to say that I've been in this
for almost six years. It's been a
fantastic experience that has
enabled me to become more rooted.
Assisted me in accomplishing a
childhood dream and, most
significantly, waking up every
morning to do something I
genuinely like. The boxshop radio is
an online radio station dedicated to
producing educational and
inspirational content.
Steezday is a cultural event. I was
really interested in learning and
understanding the new generation
known as ama 2000. The purpose of
the event is to have a better
understanding of them as well as to
inculcate a culture for our people.
We're currently in our fifth season,
and we're gearing up for a
spectacular next season for ladies,
which will take place in August.
As a project, we've come a long
way. The fact that we are giving
back to the community is
something I adore. We have a
project called "mapha Sunday"
whereby we cook for the homeless
and collect all of the canned goods
received throughout the event to
create a meal for those in need.
IF THERE IS ANYTHING I AM
MOST GRATEFUL FOR IS THE
ABILITY TO BRIGHTEN A ROOM,
THE ABILITY TO GIVE, AND THE
ABILITY TO BE WHERE I AM
AND DOING . THIS IS JUST THE
BEGINNING OF A NEW START.
A BEGINNING OF SOMETHING
NEW AND A BEGINNING OF A
LEGACY FOR MANY MORE
GENERATIONS. I AM DI BOY
MASHESHA AND I AM HERE TO
SAY, PUSHA PASSION. IT WILL
BE WORTH IT AT SOME POINT.
