Description of Practice:
For over 30 years, I have been in private law practice, representing
clients in federal and state criminal cases. I was the solo or lead trial
counsel in numerous criminal jury trials, many of which were assigned to
me directly by judges when I served on the Criminal Justice Act panel in
the Eastern District of New York. I have tried criminal cases, and one
forfeiture case, in the Southern District of New York, and was defense trial
counsel in criminal cases in the New York State Supreme Courts in
Manhattan and Brooklyn. I have also litigated numerous non-trial cases in
these courts, as well as in the Supreme Court in Queens, the Nassau
County Court, the District of New Jersey and the Eastern District of Virginia
I have represented clients in SEC investigations and before
administrative bodies. I have been trial counsel in several civil lawsuits,
both in state and federal courts. I have also argued numerous appeals in
the Second Circuit, both as a prosecutor and as a defense attorney, and
have been appellate counsel before the Third and Fourth Circuits, the NYS
Supreme Court, the Appellate Divisions in the First and Second
Departments and before the New York State Court of Appeals.
Since leaving the U.S Attorney’s Office in late 1989, I have
represented hundreds of clients whose cases range from significant white
collar securities and business fraud investigations and prosecutions to
capital cases in both the Eastern and Southern Districts. I have tried
numerous criminal cases as a defense attorney, including three death
