Abandonment
Abandoning an animal is an act of mistreatment
and cruelty towards them because we are
condemning them to their death, especially dogs
and cats. An animal that is domesticated, and
then abandoned, has no chance of surviving by
its own means, it gets sick and dies.

Mistreating
Animal abuse is defined as irrational behaviour
by a person towards an animal with the aim of
causing suffering, stress or even death. Is
considered a crime in many parts of the world.
Despite this, the numbers are increasing daily.

About Ecuador
In Ecuador, the abandonment and mistreatment
of animals is a social problem and due to its
increase, it is also considered a health problem.
More than 100,000 animals are abandoned in
the country, according to a study carried out by
the laboratory Intervet Ecuador S.A. 365 pets are
abandoned every day.

In Ibarra
Animal abandonment is common and becomes
a health problem. This situation has grown
during the pandemic, some of the animals
manage to be rescued, but others do not.

Ecuadorian law
With the Reformatory Law to the
Comprehensive Organic Penal
Code promulgated in the Official
Register Supplement No. 107 of
24 December 2019, several
substantial changes were made
in criminal matters, including
the creation of several criminal
offences to protect animal
rights. The main changes
brought about by the reform are
