We caught up with Kevin Read
from Innervision Accountancy
to ask him how they
are helping small
businesses transform
their bookkeeping through
automation...
Kevin with his wife Claire started
Innervision Accountancy 25 years ago,
with the aim of offering something
different by embracing digital solutions.
Everything is now done online through
cloud-based systems – in their case
QuickBooks Online.
Innervision Accountancy were one of the
first firms of accountants in the UK to
offer cloud-based accounting solutions
to their clients. They are partnered
with Intuit; the makers of QuickBooks
and all staff are qualified QuickBooks
Professional Advisors. Kevin is an
Advanced Professional Advisor and Intuit
Certified trainer.
We help our clients implement cloudbased
systems, Kevin explains “which
means much less time is spent on
the mundane repetitive bookkeeping
tasks through bank feeds and machine
learning. It also means we can access our
clients’ financial date ‘live’ in real-time
enabling us to be proactive – something
that has been more important as ever
over the last year. We also look at
other applications that link in with the
accounting solution to make businesses
more efficient.”
What is cloud accounting?
You keep your business books online.
You can access your data wherever you
are, on any device, so long as you have
an internet connection. This means you
can generate invoices or estimates on
the go or process payments immediately.
Your data is always safely secured and
backed up online.
What are Bank feeds?
A Bank feed is a secure online connection
between your accounting software and
your bank and helps to automate a large
amount of bookkeeping work.
Much is said about the development
of cloud computing and digital
transformation in business, but how
in your opinion is the adoption of
the latest technology in accounting
developing?
“That’s a big question”, Kevin says “but
what we are seeing is more businesses
using bank feeds, receipt capture
and other third-party apps. This is
encouraging and shows businesses are
recognising the benefits of automation
and technology.”
Who is really driving the change?
Is it businesses or accountants? “I think
it’s a bit of both. We see a lot of small
businesses using QuickBooks and they
have passed that to their accountants.
But we also see it the other way around.
You meet a lot of accountants who favour
QuickBooks and are encouraging clients
to make the move.”
