“Find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the

pattern of the shadows, the light and dark which that

thing provides”.

“Surely one of the most-Instagrammed buildings in Melbourne, the Coop’s Shot

Tower inside Melbourne Central. It was the tallest building in Melbourne’s CBD

until the mid-1940s, and has become one of the city’s most enduring landmarks.

But it’s also one of the most significant buildings in Australia’s industrial history.

The Coop’s Shot Tower is one of only three 19th century shot towers remaining

in Australia—the oldest (and the only one you can climb) is in Hobart; the tallest

is just five kilometres away in Clifton Hill. Thanks to the shopping centre built

around it during the 1980s, the Coop’s Shot Tower is the best preserved. Inside the

second floor of the tower, Melbourne Central’s Shot Tower Museum has the

low-down on the history of shot manufacture”.

“Learning is essential in our everyday lives, we

suceed, we fail, we strive and we cry. For each of our paths

is different determined by the decisions each one of us have

to make”.

“The universe is all about balance. The forces

of light and darkness are meant to keep a

check on one another.

If one becomes too powerful and starts

overrunning the other, that balance will be

upset. For the tyranny of virtue is as

unbearable as the stranglehold of vice”.

- Shatrujeet Nath, The Guardians of the

Halahala

“And all my life I have dreaded the

return of that year, sure that it still is

somewhere, like a dead enemys soul.

Fear of dust in my mouth is always with me, and I

am the faithful husband of the rain,

I love the water of wells and springs

and the taste of roofs in the water of

cisterns.

I am a dry man whose thirst is praise

of clouds, and whose mind is something of a cup.

My sweetness is to wake in the night

after days of dry heat, hearing the rain”.

- ‘Water’ excerpt by Wendell Berry

The Glory of Green

“Green hues denote the healing of our earth,

That special season of springtime’s rebirth.

Green grasses growing o’er the hillside’s face,

Embracing greening trees in leafy lace.

While amber fields engage in heaven’s kiss

As raindrops splash into emerald bliss,

I watch amazed as tender shoots abound

With daffodils and tulips breaking ground.

A floral scent begins to fill March air.

St. Patty’s I’ll wear flowers in my hair.

So many varied hues that can be seen,

This Irish lass loves every shade of green!”

“One Green Leaf

One leaf fell from a tall, tall tree and subtly kissed gnarled

roots beneath; a lover’s kiss below sunned-sheath of

greenest leaves, a jubilee.

One spiraling leaf brought playful mirth to sullen earth of

trodden dirt. A flight of hopeful shades of spring,

for hard, hard ground, an offering.

One leaf dressed in a sparkling jade glided with grace to

green grass blades and rested near a bubbling brook,

then waited for warm breeze that shook

its flirty skirt on green, green glade.

An arc of bright green canopy warmed my heart in bluest

mood, and one leaf blew a kiss from you. It twirled and

pranced and floated by, Then with a touch it came to lie

green in my hand, a dear surprise.

Like emerald hills of Irish tales, I marveled at how one leaf

sailed green In my hand that blue, blue day, A kiss from

you on Patty’s Day - The gray clouds parted shining green,

a beauty like I’d never seen”.

“Day is over, night has come. Today is gone, what’s done is done.

Embrace your dreams through the night.

Tomorrow comes with a whole new light”.
