It is not known if the suitwill be epanded to other statesDFR Releases Report Examining COVID-19’s FinancialImpact on Vermont’s Health Insurance MarketplaceThe Vermont Department of Financialegulation released a report eaminingthe financial impacts of COVID-19 onermonts commercial health insurance marketplaceto determine whether any consumerpremium relief is warranted.The report focuses on the financial performanceof BlueCross BlueShield of VermontBB, P ealth Group P, theermont ducation ealth nitiative ,and Cigna throughout the pandemic.The report found COVID-19 mitigationmeasures, such as the postponement of nonessentialmedical and surgical procedures,resulted in ecess profits for health insurers in2020, however, as pandemic conditionsimproved, much of the deferred medical carereturned resulting in potential losses in 2021.The report found that only two market segmentshad COVID-19 related profits whenreviewing 2020 and 2021 together at thistime pecifically, BBs edicareupplement and ignas large group marketsegments, which together totaled approimately$2.2 million in COVID-19 relatedprofits.
