12 Sessions for Preparing Couples for Marriage

SESSION 1- Introduction and Getting to Know the Couple

Getting to know the story of the

couple

To introduce to the couple why they

are being accompanied by another

couple.

To find out the history of their

relationship

To find out and learn if the couple

are both Catholics, married before,

(check documents before 1st

Session)

To identify intentions of getting

married

A Couple-

They will share their life

experiences as a married couple.

Preferably one who is in the

Marriage Encounter Programme/

Catechist

● This couple will work as

their mentor.

They need to understand each other first

in these areas before we move on to the

next session

Are they willing to be married (into the

Catholic faith) or are they being

coerced by another party?

2 days of 1 hour each

but if requested and

needed to be. There

will be 3 days.

I will judge from the

momentum to have it

all in this. I have a

feeling that there will

be silence over

sensitive issues.

Whatever is

mentioned in this

meeting stays in this

meeting.


SESSION 2- Accepting Each other’s Past and Working Towards the Future

Learn to understand the

previous sexual

relationship

to find out if one of the

partners has a child from a

previous relationship

A Couple ( Mentor) ● they should go back and talk it

over with each other if they do not

feel comfortable talking it over in

the presence of others ( since there

will be another couple there with

us.

● They need to accept their past

relationships and move on with a

new beginning

● In order to prevent any

misunderstandings in the future,

the couple needs to come clean

with each other.

Minimum of 2 hours in a week.

It is a very sensitive issue trying

to recollect past mistakes.

This session will probably take

longer.


SESSION 3- Children and Procreation

For(new/young)couples-

To try and find out if

they are ready to accept

the fact that a partner is

infertile.

To find out if they are

ready to accept the fact

that there will be no

child due to infertility

To try and make the

couples learn the roles

and responsibilities of

parents to their children

and vice versa

Mentor Couple ● Accepting each other’s

sexual health

● The couple should be

prepared to accept the

fact that the other party

is infertile

2 days minimum


SESSION 4- SEX LIFE

The catechist will take over

meaning of love and sex

To make the couple
