No Perfect Parents:
Identifying Perfectionist Tendencies
Before You Teach Them to Your Kids
Amid the trials of lockdown, many parents encountered unexpected benefits of more family
time, deeper insights into their children’s gifts and struggles, and the joys of a slower-paced
life. As we begin a more “normal” school year, how can we avoid a post-pandemic slide
back into scattered, over-scheduled, screen-centered lives? How can we cultivate focus
in children bombarded daily by an attention economy intent on keeping them addicted
to diversion? Drawing on the latest research, wisdom from thinkers ancient and new, and
her own experiences as a homeschooling mother of four, award-winning author, journalist,
and former presidential speechwriter Colleen Carroll Campbell will sketch a way forward
that focuses on reclaiming our attentional freedom and raising children ready to embrace
the wide, wonderful world around them—not merely its on-screen simulation. Colleen has
appeared on CNN, FOX NEWS, MSNBX, ABC NEWS, PBS, AND NPR.
