Rod and Hammer’s SLO Stills
Craft Beer
& Beyond
SLO County has been on the craft beer map for decades, thanks to pioneering breweries such
as Firestone Walker, SLO Brew and Central Coast Brewing. They’ve been joined in recent
years by a new crop of small-batch brewers pumping out wild ales, hoppy hazies, lively lagers,
boozy stouts and more in spaces that range from bare bones to family entertainment center.
Like to get down while you sip your suds? Spots like SLO Brew Rock and Bang the Drum
regularly host some of the best bands from near and far at their outdoor venues.
Local spirits, mixers and craft cocktails, many with ties to the local wine and beer industry,
have also joined the mix, providing yet another way to drink local when you’re in town.
Old-fashioned with local whisky and bitters? Mai Tai with local rum and lime juice? Just the
tip of the oversized ice cube for SLO’s master mixologists.
Cannabis culture has also come on the scene, with dispensaries in San Luis Obispo, Morro
Bay and Grover Beach. Offerings and vibe vary, but they all have welcoming budtenders
eager to help you sort your options.
