The two cameras allowthe dashcam to be able to capture a 360 degreeview of it's surroundings113240OUTPUT5PAGE 2Solution 1This dashcam is also a rear view mirror. The dashcam isattached to the bottom of the rear view mirror. It has 360degree vision as there are two cameras on the sphericaldashcam, one facing the road, and the other facing insidethe vehicle. The glass mirror also works as a taximeter, as itis able to display the fare of the taxi ride. Below the mirror, there are a row of buttons that can be used to calculate thefare. The dashcam has a mounting system that is used forregular rear view mirrors, which consists of a base thatconnects to a mounting system that is attached to thewindscreen of the car.Solution 2This dashcam has a long cylindrical shape. On the bottom of the dashcam, there is a screen that flips out thatworks as a taximeter, displaying the total fare of the ride to the customers. It also has a screen that shows theuser what is being recorded, a dual camera that records the road as well as the inside of the car, and buttons onthe bottom of the dashcam that help to calculate the fare. On the left side of the dashcam, there is a power-onbutton that powers the unit. On the bottom of the dashcam, there is an emergency alert button, it is placed on thebottom of the dashcam to avoid the user accidentallypressing it. They have the responsibility ofkeeping themselves safe as well as their customers, and with the rise of Uber, Lyft, and other taxi booking services, taking ataxi is more common for everyday people. Design and graphically communicate a new concept design for a dashcam that is to456be used by taxi drivers, focusing on aspects of driver safety, emergency alerts, night vision, and taximeters.MY 5 MAIN DESIGN REQUIREMENTSRequirement 5The taximeter uses the button mechanismto calculate the fare of the ride. Thebutton mechanism can be stored in thedashcam body, It is released by pressingthe power-on buttonReEnd ViewEMERGENCY ALERTDefinitionEmergency is defined as “an unforeseen combination of circumstances or the resulting statethat calls for immediate action”. Alert is defined as “an alarm or other signal of danger”.ResearchTaxi drivers face unforeseen events everyday, it is part of their job description to pick upstrangers and deliver them to their wanted destination. There are many different instanceswhere taxi drivers are faced with assault by their customers. For example an instance overthe summer of 2020 where a man unprovokedly broke a beer bottle over the head of his taxidriver and threatened to stab him with the glass shards.how it effects my designThese situations are very dangerous for the taxi drivers as they are alone with their customersand can’t ask for help. Therefore, an emergency alert feature would be extremely beneficial fortheir jobs.NIGHT VISIONDefinitionNight vision is defined as “the ability to see in the dark”.ResearchNight vision can be incorporated into the dash cam by using auto-contrast effects to therecordings in low-light conditions. This will allow footage to be clearly viewed from all timesof day, ensuring that the dash cam can achieve its full-function whenever necessary. TheNextbase dash cams have night vision which use sensors to “improve picture clarity fornight-time driving” and “adjusts the contrast and brightness to further enhance the footage”how it effects my designTaxi drivers can operate at any time of the day. That is why it is essential that the dash cam isable to work at high quality even when there is little light available..The USB type-C socket islocated on the bottomleft of the dashcam body.It is how the dashcam willbe chargedThe side of the buttonmechanism has anextruded bit that is usedto slide into the dashcamand stay in place.TAXIMETERDRIVER SAFETYStudent Assignment 2021Exam No.1132406 7 8 9 10DefinitionSafety is defined as “the condition of being safe fromundergoing or causing hurt, injury, or loss”.ResearchDriver safety is essential to taxi drivers as they not only have tolook out for their personal safety, but also the safety of theirpassengers and others on the road. They bear greatresponsibility in this aspect, therefore having features on thedashcam that enhance driver safety is a thoughtful element forthe target market of taxi drivers. Some elements that can beincluded are location tracking, having a clearaudio/microphone, and a 360 degree view camera.how it effects my designThese elements are to protect drivers from assault, harassment, and car accidents, as it is able to provide clear andconcrete evidence on the events that happen if it is needed.Output 7Page 2Taximeter Dash CamDefinitionTaximeters are the device that record the fare of the taxi ride. It is formally defined as “aninstrument for use in a hired vehicle (such as a taxicab) for automatically showing the fare due”.ResearchA taximeter works by taking into account the distance traveled, the total time of the trip, the basicrate, and the stop times, and uses those figures to calculate the total amount to be paid. Electricpulses are sent by sensors which are attached to the car’s transmission system each time thecar travels a certain distance. In Dublin, the day rate is €3.80 for the base charge, 1.14 - 1.50 € forevery kilometer traveled, and 0.40 € per minute which is used for when the car is stopped orinstructed to wait.how it effects my designA taximeter being incorporated into the dash cam will be convenient for taxi drivers as it providestwo essential products in one.Mounting System RECORD simple controls driver safety taximeter4 51 2 3KEY WORD ANALYSISSolution 3HOW IT MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS1. The dashcam uses a double-sided tape mounting system.HOW IT MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS1. The mounting system is one of a regular rear view mirror, the base connects to the existing mount that is on thewindscreen of a car.2. There is a dash cam connected to the bottom of the rear view mirror which can record the road as well as theinside of the car.3. The dashcam has simple controls as it has a minimal amount of buttons. The buttons can be used to calculate thetaxi fare as well as control the dashcam.4. The dashcam has elements of driver safety as it has a 360 degree view camera which helps to ensure thedriver’s safety by providing proof of events5. The dashcam is also a taximeter, displaying the total fare to customers on the glass mirror.2. There is a camera on the front side of the dashcam which is able to record the events that take place on the road ahead.3. The dashcam has simple controls, a power-on button and four buttons located on the button mechanism that can be stored away.4. The dashcam has elements of driver safety by having a clear microphone and speaker, which allows events to be clearly recordedfor evidence.5. The dashcam also functions as a taximeter by having a screen that can display the total fare of the taxi ride. This rectangular dashcam has a button mechanism on the bottom ofit. The mechanism works by pushing the bottom of the dashcamwhere the mechanism is located, which releases the base where3four buttons are placed on it. When not in use, the base can bepushed back into the body of the dashcam. The buttons are used tohelp calculate the total fare of the taxi ride. The dashcam consists ofMy dashcam will use the mountingThe dashcam will have a front-facing camera asone front-facing camera which records the events on the road, asystem of solution 1, as I believe that it is well as a back-facing camera which can be seendouble sided tape mounting system, a power-on button on the top ofthe most sturdy and overall efficient in solution 1 and 2. It will be able tohave a rear-view mirror.record a 360 degree view of the environment. The elements of driver safety that my dashcam willhave will be 360 degree vision which can be seenfrom solution 1 and 2. This element of driver safety isextremely important to include as taxi drivers notonly take the risk of the road ahead of them but aswell as the clients they have. That is why 360 degreevision is important for driver safety.HOW IT MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS1. The dashcam uses a suction cup mounting system which can be mounted onto thewindscreen of a car.2. There is a camera on the front and on the back of the dashcam. It can record theinside of the car as well as the road ahead.3. The dashcam has simple controls. It has a power-on button, four buttons to helpcalculate the fare and control the dashcam, as well as an emergency alert button.4. The dashcam has elements of driver safety as it has an emergency alert button aswell as a 360-degree view.5. The dashcam also functions as a taximeter when the screen on the bottom flips out.my final designREQUIREMENTSMy dashcam will have a button mechanism thatis seen in solution 3, as well as a power-onbutton. This fulfills the simple mechanismMy dashcam will have a taximeter that isrequirement as the button mechanism is simpleto use and is organised. The buttons on thebutton mechanism will be used to calculate thetotal fare and can be stored away when needed.presented in the way of solution 1. This means thatthe taximeter will be shown on the mirror/screenof the rearview mirror, as it will display the totalfare on it. This is the most practical solution as thiswill allow one product to fulfill three uses, dashcam, rearview mirror, and taximeter.1From output 1, I researched the different mountingsystems that dash cams have. The main mountingsystems that dash cams have are suction cup andfoam tape mounting systems, there are also somemore advanced systems like magnetic as seen in theNext Base dash cams. The mounting system isimportant as it places the dash cam in a stableposition so it can record the footage most clearly. Mydash cam must have a stable mounting system.2From output 1, I researched the importance of recordingto dash cams. The sole purpose of a dash cam is toclearly record the events that happen on the road toplayback in the future. They record the footage in order toprovide evidence if it is needed, for example if there is anargument or court case. That is why it is necessary forthe dash cam to also record in high quality so it cancapture the most precise detail. My dash cam must beable to record the events on the road.3When modelling the Claoner Dash Cam, I noticed thatthere was little space available for the features (buttons,USB, HDMI, etc.) to be placed, limiting the number offeatures that could be provided by the dash cam. I felt liketo maximise the features offered by the dash cams, thereneeds to be a good system to organize the features andsimplify them. My dash cam needs to have simplecontrols.4In output 7, I researched the importance of driversafety for taxi drivers. I researched elements thatcould be provided by the dash cam to ensure safety, like 360 degree vision, clear audio/microphone, andlocation tracking. Their safety is important, as it canbe a dangerous job in its own aspects, the dash camwill help to provide safety for them. My dash camneeds to provide features that ensure driver safety.5In output 7, I researched taximeters and how theywork. They are an essential device for all taxi driversas they need a device to fairly calculate the price ofthe rides. The calculations of taximeters arestandardised, but the way of calculation by htaximeter can vary. A tool that incorporates ataximeter and dash cam element will be specific totaxi drivers and benefit their work. My dash cam needsto have a taximeter element.
