Our students travel from all over Sussex
and beyond to study with us. With our
centres being so close to rail links and in
the centre of town, we are well located for
any travel needs.
We also offer the 16-19 bursary fund to
help students overcome financial barriers
to their learning, including travel costs.

MEDIA AND MUSIC SECTORS
This past year our students have benefitted
from guest talks by WaterBear, The Chinese
Room, Luma, Dlala Studios and more.
We are passionate about ensuring that all of
our students take part in meaningful work
placements within the creative industries,
as a key part of their study programme, and
in the past these have included Big Egg,
Platform B, Otherplace, The Social Society,
Brighton Fringe and more.
Our partner employers include BN1
Magazine, Into the Wild Gathering, Citrus
Ornge Digital Marketing, The Motherlode,
Edit Sweet, We R Tilt, Tough Cookie.
We are committed to help prepare you for life
after Dv8, whether that’s employment, further
or higher education or an apprenticeship.
We are very proud that our students have
followed a wide range of different paths to
achieve their career goals.

Learning Support & Student Services
OUR LEARNING SUPPORT
TEAM IS EQUIPPED TO HELP
YOU WITH YOUR STUDIES
With a range of programmes and resources
we can help you excel. If you need a little
extra to make sure you reach your goals,
we are ready to help you get there. The
team is set up to support a range of needs,
if you think this will be useful to you please
get in touch.
We also have a Student Services team to
assist with pastoral and welfare needs,
who are ready to help you if you have
things going on which are affecting you at
college and/or at home. They will be ready
to listen to you and give you advice and
support on a range of issues outside of
your studies, for example if you are having
problems attending or difficulty travelling
into college because of money or if a
situation at home is affecting you and you
are not sure what to do. They can also help
with things like making plans for after Dv8
– information and advice around Careers,
Higher Education or Apprenticeships or
help to find or set up a work placement.
We also place a big emphasis on Personal
& Social Development (PSD), and all of our
students have sessions on important issues
that affect them, including online safety,
emotional wellbeing, sexual health and
healthy relationships, keeping safe in the
community, equality and diversity and more.
We provide support for learners with
Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP’s)
through access to a support worker,
counselling and Life Skills, amongst
other support. A bespoke package can be
tailored to ensure the student feels well
supported and each learner will have a
learning support assistant they can turn
to in and beyond the classroom.
Never in a million years did we
think he would aspire to higher ed,
and now he has a plan, a focus and
self belief and confidence which
were all missing three years ago

Games Development
OUR GAMES DEVELOPMENT COURSE
WILL EQUIP YOU WITH THE SKILLS AND
KNOWLEDGE NEEDED IN ONE OF THE
FASTEST-GROWING CREATIVE INDUSTRIES
Through working on projects independently
and in groups, you will gain skills in 2D and
3D games design, programming, graphic
design and sound production.
As part of our course, you will have the
opportunity to visit games studios in
the local community and meet industry
leaders in the games industry. This is in
addition to meaningful, project-based work
experience. For example, our students
worked with Hangar 13 on a brief to create
a fully functioning game demo.

Music Production & Performance
THE MUSIC PRODUCTION &
PERFORMANCE COURSE IS
IDEAL FOR ANYBODY WHO
WANTS TO BUILD ON THEIR
PASSION FOR MUSIC
You will have the opportunity to develop
your musicianship and technical skills,
through recording, songwriting and
production.
There is a focus on practical learning and
project-based assignments to help you
build a portfolio of musical work.
Our expert tutors provide opportunities
with studios, record companies, venues
and industry professionals to help build
your knowledge and contacts for the
future. Additionally, we offer opportunities
for work experience with local music
professionals. For example, one of our
students gained experience at Brighton
based Record Label / Events company
QM Records.

Media Production
THE MEDIA PRODUCTION COURSE WILL HELP
YOU TO DEVELOP AN UNDERSTANDING
OF THE CORE SKILLS OF PHOTOGRAPHY,
MOVING IMAGE CREATION, WEBSITE DESIGN
AND ONLINE PROMOTION
The Media Production course will help
you to develop an understanding of
the core skills of photography, moving
image creation, website design and
online promotion.
You will also develop a completed media
product such as music video, website, film,
podcast or photo portfolio, which you will
then develop into a viable business proposal.
You will develop strong vocational and
personal competencies, such as working
to deadlines, time management and
project planning, independent study and
professional communication, in order to
prepare for roles within Media or for higher
study at University level and beyond.
With so many elements to the course, we
are able to offer work experience in many
fields, including a student who gained
experience at radio station Rocket FM.

Maths and English
STUDENTS DEVELOP VALUABLE ENGLISH
AND MATHEMATICS SKILLS ON THEIR
COURSE THAT HELP THEM WITH THEIR
STUDIES AND FUTURE GOALS
OFSTED, MARCH 2021
At Dv8, we see English and Maths as an
integral part of your study programme,
and we aim for all students to achieve
a minimum GCSE grade 4 or Functional
Skills level 2 equivalent whilst you study
with us.
The extra lessons will be planned around
your core course timetable and you will
receive a half day extra for each subject.
Our students also benefit from bespoke 1:1
sessions to support them in English and
Maths, as well as access to a wide range
of resources.
Dv8 has been a life line for my
daughter... she is listened to,
understood and supported in so
many ways and Dv8 extends this
to our family, communication is
excellent and our daughter has
grown in confidence
