Scatter<strong>in</strong>g problems – BIEs<br />

Another very well developed area of research regard<strong>in</strong>g chiral <strong>media</strong> <strong>in</strong> the<br />

time-harmonic regime deals with scatter<strong>in</strong>g problems.<br />

Consider that an electromagnetic wave propagat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> a chiral (or achiral)<br />

homogeneous environment is <strong>in</strong>cident upon a chiral (or achiral) obstacle.<br />

Depend<strong>in</strong>g on the materials with which the surround<strong>in</strong>g space <strong>and</strong> the<br />

obstacle are filled, <strong>and</strong> on the boundary condition(s) on the obstacle’s<br />

surface, a variety of scatter<strong>in</strong>g problems (exterior BVPs, transmission<br />

problems) is treated. For example,<br />

Us<strong>in</strong>g classical potentials, BIEs are employed to study the solvability,<br />

the determ<strong>in</strong>ation of uniquely solvable equations, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

“low-chirality” approximation:<br />
