ENGAGED CITIZENING
TOOLS, SKILLS & ACTIONS
1. Unconscious Incompetence:
the learner isn’t aware that a skill or knowledge gap even exists.
2. Conscious Incompetence:
the learner is aware that a skill or knowledge gap, and sees and
understands the importance of acquiring a new skill.
3. Conscious Competence:
the learner knows how to use the skill or perform the task, and that doing
so requires practice, conscious thought, and work.
4. Unconscious Competence:
the individual has enough experience with the skill that he or she can
perform it so easily they do it unconsciously.
By the time all of your student learners have presented their project process
and their call to action, learners will have rapidly moved from
unconscious competence to conscious competence.
Citizening Projects 3 and 4 are sequenced in ways that honor the four stages
that each learner progresses through en route to competence.
