“I’VE HAD TO KEEP
MY FOCUS, EVERYONE
AROUND ME HAS BEEN
VERY SUPPORTIVE AND
I KNOW I’M CAPABLE OF
DOING THINGS LIKE THAT”
long or not release it when you should.
We’re still early in the season and it’s
now about getting going properly.
“I’ve had to keep my focus, everyone
around me has been very supportive and
I know that I’m capable of doing things
like that.
“I was also pleased with my strike
against Leeds in the week and I now feel
like I’m getting back towards the levels I
want to be.
“I really enjoyed my first season as an
Oldham player. I had to make the step
up in quality but I feel like I adjusted my
game, I’m still developing as a player and
I set high standards for myself.
“As an attacking player, nothing beats
scoring a winning goal or being involved
in a moment that helps us get a result. I
felt I improved as a player massively last
season and the aim this year is to push
on again.”
The full-time scenes at Spotland were
not only borne out of the passion
of a derby atmosphere, they also
represented a collective sense of relief
after a trying start to the campaign.
While there has been a determination to
reverse the slide after falling to the foot
of the League Two table, the number of
absentees has left Keith Curle’s squad
stretched to the limit.
From that adversity has come strength,
and with a number of players now
making their way back into contention,
Keillor-Dunn is confident that results will
continue to turn.
“The last few weeks have been very
difficult,” he says. “Results have been
disappointing but Keith has maintained
all along that things will get better and
we’ve just got to get on with it. He said
before the Rochdale game that we had
to give it our all because that’s what the
fans wanted to see.
“It’s probably a cliché but the squad
we’ve got are a genuinely a great bunch
of lads. Being a team is all about sticking
together and the tough times we’ve been
through make the wins like last week
even more special. We’ve tried to keep
our confidence in saying that results will
come and now we’ve got a good win it’s
about building that momentum.
“The clean sheet last week said
everything about our performance. We
all agreed afterwards that we were
much more organised and resolute but
Keith’s philosophy has always been to try
and encourage us to play and the lads
are really buying in to what we’ve been
working on.”
“We know our job now is to put back-toback
wins together. We’ve got a talented
squad and we shouldn’t be near the
bottom of the table but it’s down to us to
prove that on the pitch.”
