Modeling Optimal Strategies to Prevent Cardiovascular Outcomes in Older Adults 2/12 – 1/17

Role: Principal Investigator
This Mentored Research Scientist Development Award will provide an intensive research, training,
and career development program for Dr. Odden. This research will evaluate the potential of
multiple novel and traditional strategies to prevent cardiovascular outcomes in older adults.
Through a combination of in-depth epidemiologic investigation and computer simulations, we will
identify the most promising interventions for cardiovascular prevention in older adults, at the
lowest risk of unintended side effects.
Impact and Cost-Effectiveness of Blood Pressure and Lipid Control in Older Elders 7/11 – 6/13
American Heart Association – Clinical Research Program
Role: Principle Investigator
In this proposal, we will evaluate the population impact and comparative effectiveness of blood
pressure and lipid control strategies in adults over 75 years. Analyses will be based on the
Coronary Heart Disease Policy Model, a well-established, validated, Markov model of coronary
heart disease and stroke outcomes in the U.S. population.
