Editor’s Notes
Good afternoon and welcome to Amberley Park to the players, staff and
supporters of Cramlington United FC for what promises to be an exciting
Northumberland FA Benevolent Bowl clash.
The start to the league campaign has exceeded all expectation, and our
hundred percent record has been achieved with at times a significantly
depleted squad.
Saturday’s win against Ponteland United was particularly pleasing, given
Killy played for 89 minutes with 10 men. Manager Nathan Beckham said
afterwards:
“What more can we say to heap any more praise on the bunch of lads we
have? Today’s game showed everything our squad is about; playing with
ten men is never easy, but you’d have struggled to see that we were at
times. The effort the lads put in was outstanding.”
“There were standout performances all over the pitch, but a few of the
younger lads deserve credit for coming into adult football and running
games, which is very impressive. It’s clear to see we have a diamond in
the ranks with Michael Baxter, but there are no egos here; everyone puts
in 100% for each other & him dropping into right back to see the game
out is a credit to his character.”
“Watching this team is a pleasure and we couldn’t have asked for more.
At this stage of the season we’re not getting carried away, but after 10
wins from 10, maybe it’s time to start believing.”
The Northumberland FA Benevolent Bowl is a prestigious competition,
and as reigning champions, the club aim to have another good run in the
competition this season. While today’s opposition come from a lower division,
they will be given due respect as league leaders, while the chance
to progress in this competition will remain the primary focus.
Enjoy the game, and #UpTheKilly

Killingworth FC: Club History
Killingworth FC was formed in June 2021, to bring together AFC Killingworth
and Killingworth YPC following a busy period of re-structuring for
AFC's management and commitee, as well as the Trustees of Killingworth
YPC.
Killingworth YPC was originally formed as Killingworth Boys Club in
1980, by Phil Gibson and the late Lil Gibson. Phil is and remains a key
member of the club. The Club provides an opportunity for children of all
abilities to enjoy an engaging, safe and welcoming environment as part
of their first football experience, via the Club's popular Academy. Upon
reaching the age of 6, children can then progress into one of the Club's
Mini-Soccer teams, then into a Junior team from age 11 and eventually
representing the club at a senior level (18+). The club has FA Charter
Standard Club status.
AFC Killingworth itself was formed in 2018, following the merger of two
successful local sides; Killingworth Town and Killingworth YPC. Prior to
the Covid pandemic, the club enjoyed great success winning the Northern
Alliance Premier title, Bill Gardner Memorial Trophy and Team Valley
Carpets Challenge Cup in their first season. Only a narrow defeat to Newcastle
University in the Benevolent Bowl final prevented a clean sweep of
available trophies.
When football was finally able to re-start properly at the end of season
2020/21, AFC Killingworth lost out in the group stages of the reformatted
Challenge Cup, eventually won by Whitley Bay Reserves. However,
the AFC era was brought to a close with victory (via penalty shootout)
in the Benevolent Bowl final against close rivals AFC Burradon &
New Fordley. Having re-branded for 2021/22, and with a re-vamped clubhouse,
the club now look forward to continued success and providing a
natural pathway for progression into senior football for the youngsters of
Killingworth YPC, with teams from junior level to Over 40s.

Opposition: Cramlington United
Cramlington United FC were formed in the summer of 2010, and within
12 months were awarded Community Club Status, a feat which is not only
unique in the Northumberland area but in the whole of the UK.
Not only do they believe that football should be available to everyone and
delivered in a fun and friendly environment but as a Club also have an extremely
strong set of values, believing that children above all else are the
key to the future of this sport.
The supporting Club culture and appropriate behaviours promote fairness
and sportsmanship and throughout the Club there is a belief that
everyone has the potential within themselves to succeed. The club actively
concentrate on developing each and every individual, in all areas
of life irrespective of ability.
Cramlington United currently sit top of the Reeves Independent 1st Division,
with an impressive record of P10, W9, L1. With 27 points they sit 6
clear of Newcastle Independent FC, although the latter have 3 games in
hand.
They have scored an impressive 34 goals in the first stage of the season,
conceding 11, so they will come into today’s game full of confidence and
will perhaps fancy an upset at the home of the Premier Division leaders.
With those statistics, his cup fixture between two in form sides promises
to be a good game of football and a chance for either to make progress in
the Northern Football Alliance’s premier cup competition.

Killingworth FC: Round-up
Killingworth FC are currently the only team with a 100% record in the league,
having P10, W10, meaning they are top of the table with 30 points.
After impressive victories over their potential title rivals Newcastle Blue Star
at home and away at Burradon & New Fordley, Killy maintained their momentum
by beating a good Percy Main Amateurs side 4-0 at Purvis Park, and then
Ponteland United 2-0 after playing 89 minutes with ten men.
Michael Baxter continues to put in some dazzling performances, backed up
by his goalscoring record that sees him lead the NFA Premier Division
goalscorer charts. This has been complemented by a rock solid back line and
a mixture of youth and experience in midfield.
After this break in the league programme, it is back to business next week
against 4th placed Winlaton Community FC. Match reports available at:

The Northern Football Alliance
The Northern Football Alliance is an English football competition
based in the North East and Cumbria. The league has four divisions,
headed by the Premier Division which sits at Step 7 (Level 11) of the
National League System. Clubs applying for promotion (subject to
ground grading requirements) are promoted to the Northern League
Division Two.
The Northern Alliance was founded in 1890 as a single league, and
in 1926 became the Second Division of the North Eastern League,
before splitting away in 1935. It disbanded in 1964 due to a lack of
member clubs, but reformed quickly in 1965/66.
Merging in 1988 with the Northern Combination and Northern Amateur
Leagues (as the Northern Football Alliance), a three division
format was established. Recently the league has added a fourth division
that includes several development teams.
There are a number of cup competitions, including Divisional Cups,
the League Cup and the prestigious Northumberland FA Benevolent
Bowl, with Killingworth FC the current holders (won as AFC Killingworth).
Sadly, season 2021/22 will go ahead without Shankhouse FC
(founded in 1883), Gateshead Redheugh, Red Row Welfare, Spittal
Rovers and Cramlington Town. Felling Magpies also resigned with
the season underway. As a result, several teams were elevated from
Div 1 & 2, with Div 1 to run with 15, Div 2 to run with 13 & Div 3 to
run with 14 teams for the forthcoming season.
