The SWFL Business Alliance is happy 

to announce that our inaugural luncheon 

was a resounding success! The 

original intent of the get-together was 

for local businesses to re-acquaint 

themselves and support one another 

while working together to address and 

solve issues that we face as a community. 

Inititally, our association’s co-founders 

Katrina Salokar, Jesse Nadell, and I 

reached out to a select number of high 

quality people we wanted to attend, and 

planned this to be an invitation-only 

event. We had conversations about the 

how’s and why’s of this decision, and 

our answers were well-received, but we 

also experienced an unexpected phenomenon. 

However, once we widened 

our perspective a bit, it made perfectly 

logical sense. 

In our talks, we kept hearing that 

“outside” companies wanted to attend. 

Why would that be? These outside 

companies were all smart, successful, 

well-financed, and make it a priority to 

be fully aware of all new development 

opportunities. So, they heard about the 

event and wanted to be seen and heard 

at the luncheon. Isn’t it delightful that 

our tiny neck of the woods is on the radar 

of these powerful companies? 

Historically, Lehigh Acres would only 

hear about a new development or construction 

from the media, after the ink’s 

been dry for a long time. They never had 

a shot to bid on that growth, and we, as 

a community, could never provide input 

into how these developments were 

crafted. These outside companies are in 

a prime position to appreciate the tremendous 

scale of the changes headed 

Lehigh’s way and can help us gain more 

representation in the decision-making 

of this growth. 

This first meeting put the days of being 

out of the loop in the past. 

This luncheon opened up a channel 

of purposeful engagement so our local 

businesses can interact with the outside 

businesses. It was so much fun to see 

everyone at the meeting furiously (in a 

good way, of course!) making all sorts of 

new friends and new alliances. 

Because we had such a stellar group 

of people in the same room, we have effectively 

granted Lehigh Acres a seat at a 

table that we never had access to before. 

Your community business leaders took 

a stand, and did right by Lehigh Acres. 

You would have been proud! 

As an example, Walter Salazar Pest 

Control had a great conversation with 

Jonathan Graham of Horus Construction, 

who is the president of a massive 

construction firm based in Tampa. 

These types of conversations are what 

we’ve been missing and would not have

been possible if we hadn’t all taken the 

time to get together. 

Now that the word is out, the amount

impact in our community and beyond. 

Being in that room with fifty exceptional 

people was only a dream a few 

short months ago. It’s truly amazing 

what can be accomplished by some very 

motivated and like-minded individuals.

residing in Lee County. We meet on the 

fourth Thursday of each month at The 

Landings Yacht, Golf, and Tennis Club.

social period followed by lunch at Noon 

and then an informative speaker program. 

Within the organization are various 

interest groups for members’ participation. 

Membership is open to both 

year-round and seasonal residents.

that Physicians’ Primary Care 

of Southwest Florida has once again received 

NCQA Patient-Centered Medical 

Home (PCMH) Recognition for using 

evidence-based, patient-centered processes 

that focus on highly coordinated 

care and long‐term, participative relationships. 

Physicians’ Primary Care of Southwest 

Florida has been recognized as 

a Patient-Centered Medical Home 

continuously since 2013. The NCQA 

Patient-Centered Medical Home is a 

model of primary care that combines 

teamwork and information technology 

to improve care, improve patients’ 

experience of care and reduce costs. 

Medical homes foster ongoing partnerships 

between patients and their personal 

clinicians, instead of approaching 

care as the sum of episodic office 

visits. Each patient’s care is overseen 

by clinician-led care teams that coordinate 

treatment across the health care 

system. Research shows that medical 

homes can lead to higher quality and 

lower costs, and can improve patient 

and provider reported experiences of 

care.

Edison Mall will put the ‘boo’ in 

‘booze’ during the upcoming fall celebration, 

Boo ‘n Brew. On Saturday, October 

23rd from 3 pm to 8 pm Edison 

Mall will offer a family-friendly Halloween-themed 

event featuring a diverse 

beer selection and plenty of tricks and 

treats. Boo ‘n Brew will be located in

A Halloween-themed harvest festival 

for the whole community, including

Kindergarten Pre-Registration Opens September 27th By Rob Spicker

opened pre-registration today for students 

who will start kindergarten in August 

2022. Pre-registration is available 

until November 30th. Signing up early 

allows parents to avoid the lengthy wait 

times often experienced during the traditional 

student enrollment period. 

“Last year we had 2,500 new kindergarten 

students who could have secured 

a seat in the same K-5 elementary school 

as their older siblings by registering 

early, and only 500 did so,” says Soretta

Midwest Food Bank of Florida – a volunteer-driven, 

faith-based organization 

dedicated to alleviating hunger, malnutrition 

and providing disaster relief locally 

receives generous contribution towards 

essential fleet trailer from Publix 

Super Market Charities. 

In 2020, the Midwest Food Bank Florida 

truck drove over 170,000 miles, rescuing 

over $52 million worth of food, 

which fed 2.4 million hungry people 

in Florida. In a weekly route, this truck 

rescues over 200,000 pounds of food, 

transporting it back to their Lee County 

and Polk County warehouses. An essential 

component to this fleet and the success 

of the Midwest Food Bank Florida 

food relief rescue, and distribution is 

the 53-foot trailer. Carrying an average 

of 40,000 lbs. of food supplies per 

trip, this equipment ensures people of 

SWFL do not go hungry. 

“Without our essential fleet so much 

food in the United States would go to 

waste, and so many local Southwest 

Florida people would go hungry,” says

at the national level, we’re seeing 

it first hand with higher prices 

at the gas pumps and grocery stores.

a budget that provides financial stability 

while making sure our hardworking 

citizens keep more of their 

own money.

At times, I believe 

that people forget that 

driving a motor vehicle 

is a privilege…not 

a right granted by the 

Constitution. 

As a privilege granted to those who 

demonstrate the skills and abilities 

necessary to operate a multi-ton piece 

of machinery, this privilege comes with 

a significant amount of responsibility. 

Drivers are required to be licensed, 

insured and unimpaired when driving. 

Additionally, drivers involved in vehicular 

collisions are mandated to remain at 

the scene. 

Statewide, there were over 105,000 

reported hit-and-run incidents in 2019. 

Between 2015 and 2020, 1,298 of these 

hit-and-run incidents resulted in death. 

This is unacceptable. 

Of late, in the Lee County Sheriff’s 

Office East District, we have been averaging 

one reported hit-and-run each 

and every day. A significant number 

of these incidents have occurred on 

stretches of Lee Boulevard and Homestead 

Road. 

Accidents happen. Stay at the scene. 

Leaving the scene with property 

damage can result in 60 days in jail and 

a $500 fine. If injuries are involved, a

money. 

The countywide general fund budget 

pays for core services regardless 

of whether you live inside a city or 

not. It provides for things like the 

sheriff’s office, ambulance service 

and all the local constitutional offices. 

In September, Lee County will 

adopt the roll-back property tax rate 

– a bureaucratic way of saying that 

we will cut our tax rate to account 

for increases in property values. The 

second or third degree felony has been 

committed and the driver faces up to 

five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. 

Should you leave the scene of an accident 

that resulted in a fatality, you have 

committed a first degree felony. You 

are subject to a mandatory minimum 

sentence of four years in prison, a maximum 

30-year sentence and a $10,000 

fine. 

While some believe that they can 

simply leave the scene and remain unidentified, 

the abundance of surveillance 

cameras and the plenitude of cell 

phone cameras have helped identify 

hit-and-run drivers. 

I take these crimes seriously and 

have directed resources to address this 

matter. Lee County Sheriff’s Office vehicles, 

both marked and unmarked, will 

be focusing on hit-and-run incidents, as 

well as impaired and reckless driving. 

We’re out there and we’re watching.

consequences of leaving are overwhelming 

and devastating. Should you

we see every day on our roads - Lee

Littleton Road widening from Corbett 

to US 41, Big Carlos Pass Bridge 

replacement and the widening of
