Sendai is a true work of art, a piece of
furniture that strikes and shatters any concept
of design. Conceived by the architect Toyo Ito,
Sendai is a collection that seeks to reflect in
miniature the media library in Sendai, created
by the artist himself in 2001. The common
elements are the irregular columns, which
create the illusion of extreme lightness and
fragility. The flexibility and movement of the
uprights contrast with shelves with a strong
visual impact.

Designer
Toyo Ito is a Japanese architect, known for
his conceptual architecture projects. Born in
1941 in Seoul (South Korea), Toyo Ito attended
the University of Tokyo, at the Faculty of
Architecture. After working with Kiyonori
Kikutake Architect & Associates from 1965 to
1969, he opened his own studio, Urban Robot
(urbot), in Tokyo in 1971. In 1979 the studio
changed its name to Toyo Ito & Associates,
Architects.
Winner of the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2013,
he has been described as one of the most
innovative and influential architects in the
contemporary world.

Movement
and flexibility
with emotional
power.
Sendai is made up of six aluminium shelves joined through
solid wood turnings, all different from each other in
inclination and sections. Light bounces and reflects off the
shelves, creating a play of movement and enhancing the
geometry and volumes of the furniture.
