Director’s Message
Broulee Psychology was born out of a vision to
provide better psychological care and support to
the community within the beautiful far south coast
of NSW.
I had been visiting the south coast since coming to Australia
in 2003 and noticed that there were so few services available
to the residents of the community. I knew that I could make
a difference by providing more quality psychological care to
an area that is so beautiful yet so disadvantaged.
Broulee Psychology was established in 2018. From the start,
the demand for service was huge. Our purpose built space
opened in July 2019 – four rooms and the space was beyond
what we could have imagined.
Late 2019 brought the bushfires and significantly
threatened our practice and damaged our community
terribly. We worked through the bushfires – at times with
fire practically on our door step. We were lucky to retain
our building where neighbouring buildings were either
damaged or lost completely.
Following the bushfires, we saw a significant surge in demand
for support. We saw demands like nothing imaginable and
then COVID hit. We brought on more team and began a
model of being a teaching practice – providing supervision
and support to provisional psychologists, registrars and new
graduates. We got creative and innovative – introducing
the use of Telehealth so that city-based psychologists could
support our little community from afar.
My vision for Broulee Psychology is to train psychologists who
provide quality psychological care for our community. We
aim to provide a safe and comfortable space for our clients
to learn to make changes in their lives so that they can live
to their potential. We value a strong team culture and care
for our team so that they can care for our community.

Our Graduate
Program
Your first or even your second job
as a psychologist (or provisional
psychologist) is important as this
provides the foundation of your
training. It is important to choose a
workplace that will provide you with
support and supervision in addition to
a variety of case presentations so that
you can learn a diverse skill set and
figure out what work will suit you best.
The great thing about working at a rural
practice is that we provide so many
different kinds of support for our clients.
We provide care for clients across the
lifespan – working with children, adolescents
and adults. We work with a wide range of
clinical presentations as well as providing
psychometric testing for both children and
adults. This means that our graduates will
have an opportunity to learn a range of skills
and be surrounded by our supportive team
to help you along the way.
Not all psychologists want to work across the
lifespan and provide both assessments and
therapy. At Broulee Psychology, we discuss
with graduates what they would like to do and
what they would like their diary and caseload
to look like. We provide a flexible approach to
suit your interests and areas of development.
Broulee Psychology welcomes 4+2 interns
who are halfway through their training,
5+1 interns who are needing placement
or internship, registrars who require
endorsement for clinical or educational
and developmental psychology or new
graduates who are just starting out.
We provide individual and group supervision
in addition to team days and trainings. We
provide full time on-site admin support
for our team and ongoing collaboration
among team members. We work hard to
maintain our team culture and see our
graduates thrive.

What to expect on the graduate journey
From day one, we provide a
comprehensive induction program
to ensure that our graduates feel
welcomed and comfortable within
our team.
Many of our out of area graduates have
been provided with grants to conduct site
visits prior to starting at the practice so that
they can visit the area, meet the team and
get a tour of the practice. We can discuss
grant opportunities available that mean site
visits are funded up to $3000. We find this to
be a great opportunity for graduate to meet
the team, see our practice and explore our
local area.
Our training package includes:
• Getting started with our processes and
systems
• Working with our administrative team
• How to engage clients and work
collaboratively with them
• Learn about booking frequency and
retaining clients
• Navigating funding systems, such as
Medicare, NDIS and Workcover
• Delivering a range of evidence-based
treatment modalities
• Providing professional correspondence
and communication with referrers
• Developing your assessment and report
writing skills
• How to structure your day and manage
your time
• How to maintain work/life balance
You can expect to be supported to build
up your caseload in a manageable way.
We expect our interns to work towards 4-5
clients per day and our graduates work
towards 5-6 clients per day. We provide
regular administrative time and support
interns and graduates to manage their
diaries effectively.
You can expect to be rewarded for your
work and supported to achieve your career
goals. We provide competitive remuneration
and reward structures for suitably qualified
graduates. For those relocating from the city,
generous relocations grants are available
(up to $15,000).
We offer positions from three days to full
time. We provide permanent positions that
include an annual salary, superannuation
and leave entitlements. Remuneration
is reviewed regularly to ensure we are
rewarding hard work. Career progression
options and reward incentives are available
for graduates as they attain general
registration and endorsement.

Our Current Team’s Experience
Hugh Harman,
Provisional Psychologist
I completed my Masters of Professional
Psychology through the University of New
England in 2021. I completed my final
placement for Masters through Broulee
Psychology, and I am now completing my
internship year at the practice. Finding a
workspace that would support and help my
early development as a psychologist was
really important to me.
Working for Broulee Psychology has
been nothing but positive and has really
demonstrated what a supportive work
environment should look like. Admin staff are
amazingly helpful and Stacy really sets the
bar high for what a supportive boss looks
like. Broulee Psychology makes it a priority to
have a healthy work life balance, and make
sure that the amount of clients I am seeing
is enough where I don’t get burnt out. This is
invaluable as I have had previous employers
who don’t care about work life balance.
Receiving weekly supervision through the
practice is amazing as it helps provide an
invaluable opportunity to understand how
different Psychologists work with clients. But
also having monthly catch ups with Stacy
has been amazing to help adjust workload to
maintain a good work life balance.
I really enjoy working in a space where
the clients I see are from all walks of life
and are across the lifespan. I love going to
work knowing that today I will be helping
someone. It has been great to see, learn and
practice different modalities used by
other psychologists within the practice.
I love knowing I have someone nearby
who I can ask questions, get advice and
recommendations.
You aren’t taught at university about the
challenges that come with working in private
practice. Broulee Psychology has been
amazing at helping me understand the
business side of working in a private practice.

Working Conditions
Broulee Psychology is part of the newly built Train Street
Central complex. We offer four spacious consult rooms that
are tastefully designed for both clinician and client comfort.
We offer a full kitchen with commercial grade expresso
machine as well as an outdoor picnic area where our team
often congregate for lunch. Many clinicians choose to go
for a walk during lunch – the beach is only a five minute
walk down the road. We offer shower facilities for those that
choose to ride their bike to work or have a swim prior to work
(or during their lunch break).
Broulee Psychology offers animal-assisted therapy. Two
certified therapy dogs attend the practice. We welcome our
team to train their dogs to be certified therapy dogs as we
find this is a great adjunct to providing therapy.

Positions for Experienced Psychologists
Broulee Psychology is passionate about our graduate
program but we also have positions available for more
experienced psychologists too. This is a great opportunity
to join a private practice without the isolation of doing it
on your own. Many experienced psychologists report that
the admin involved in running your own practice can be
overwhelming. Working within a group practice means that
your admin can be covered while being surrounded by other
like-minded and passionate clinicians.
Broulee Psychology provides leadership opportunities and
career pathways for our experienced psychologists who
are looking to take the next step in their career. You might
be looking to get more involved in clinical supervision or
be involved in more of the business side of things – the
opportunities are endless.
Here’s what our senior level clinical psychologist has to say
about working with our team:
I have worked with Broulee Psychology for over 2 years, starting with the practise when
I moved to the area. This was my first experience of private practise having worked only
with large Government and non government organisations. I have really enjoyed the
smaller team at Broulee and the relaxed environment it provides. I love the flexibility
of private practice and the varied presentations of clients. I also enjoy providing
supervision to the provisional psychologists on the team as I appreciate being part
of the reflective journey of a psychologist starting their career. It’s such a supportive
environment and great to have the balance of autonomy in your therapy work and be
able to bounce ideas off others and still have the feeling of a team environment.
