With the festive season nearly with us, we
speak to Julia Wingate a popular trader
who tells us why Kingsbridge is ready to
celebrate Christmas 2021!
Tell us more about Kingsbridge festive plans this year?
Kingsbridge is full of festive fun this year with all our local
independent shops bursting with unique gifts and presents to
delight everyone on your shopping list. Many of the shops and
businesses are award winners in their own field of expertise,
bookshops, butchers, toy shops and local chefs pride themselves
in serving up wonderful high quality products. The determined
retailers have well stocked shelves that are fun to explore after
the tedium of lockdown and online shopping, you will always find
a friendly welcome and expert advice. So if you are stuck with
what to buy this year come into town and find the perfect present
and magical meals.
What makes Kingsbridge so
unique?
Kingsbridge is the heart and soul
of the South Hams. It has been a
market town for over 800 years and
is full of independent shops that
excel in their field. We only have
a few of the usual chain stores
so shopping here is a delight. You
can always find what you need and
something you didn’t know you
needed too! The retailers have a

wealth of knowledge on products, services and ideas that you
just cannot access online. Shopping is a social and tactile event

How good does it feel to be back planning Christmas in
Kingsbridge?
Christmas in Kingsbridge always gets off to a great start with
‘Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas’ on December 4th this year.
At 10am the Town Crier rings his bell and welcomes Father
Christmas to the town square by the Farmers Market and then
he proceeds up through the town to see all the shops and extra
market stalls that fill the High street. It is a day full of food stalls,
music and gifts galore and Father Christmas stays in town all day
to meet the children in his grotto.
What types of events have you all planned?
This year we have an extra special treat for all, an Ice Rink on the
town square 10am - 8pm Saturday 4th & 10am - 4pm Sunday 5th
December. So Kingsbridge is the place to be that weekend.
