“It’s just a really good environment and
I think the High Performance Centre in
Abbotstown is really adding to that. You
are up in the morning and out you go
and you put in the hours in a brilliant
facility. But then it’s back to Carton House
and there is no rugby. Carton is for us
to relax and catch up and just switch off
and that has been massive for us I think.
“We can park the work and switch off
and that really helps.
“I think too the integration of the younger
lads with the more experienced lads has
gone well. You look at someone like Dan
Sheehan who comes in and gets capped
for the first time and then gets his first try
for Ireland at the weekend. He’s been
great but also Nick Timoney as well
and Ryan Baird who came in late at the
weekend. All of them really, those lads
finding their feet but they have adjusted
really well.
First of all
it’s really
exciting to be
back playing
an interpro
because we
haven’t had
one yet this
season and
now we head
into a block
of ten games
where we have
four interpros
as well as
four European
games.
“In the examples of Nick and Ryan they
obviously came in very late to the squad
on Sunday but you saw how seamlessly
they adapted. That doesn’t happen unless
the cohesion is there during the week or
during the whole camp really. So yeah,
it’s all little things but when you add them
all up it does make a difference.”
Before we bring him back to matters
Leinster, it would be remiss of us not to
chat about the Lions selection and while
it was unfortunately a Series lost for the
tourists, from a personal point of view,
