Leo Cullen head Coach Welcome Good evening and a warm Dublin welcome to Dan McFarland and his Ulster team for our first interprovincial derby game of the season. After an international break over the last few weeks, we’re excited to be back in action and delighted to have our supporters here at the RDS Arena for this evening’s game. A huge congratulations to everyone involved with the Ireland team these past weeks. It was a really successful international window and sets us up nicely for the Six Nations. I was one of the lucky ones with a ticket for the games this autumn and was able to enjoy three brilliant matches with my seven-year-old son in tow. Great memories! It is a thrilling time to be involved in sport as stadiums return to full capacity. We missed our supporters dearly last season – as did all teams – but to see and feel the response from the public to the Irish team has been really special. The 6 | www.leinsterrugby.ie Tadhg Furlong also notched up a significant milestone in winning his 50th cap for Ireland. For a tighthead prop, a half-century of international caps is a hell of an achievement... atmosphere for the New Zealand game was electric. Hopefully, we’ll get to experience something similar over the coming months. A special word of congratulations to Jonathan Sexton who reached the milestone of 100 Ireland caps against Japan. It is a remarkable feat for Johnny to have achieved; the latest in a remarkable career. And to go on and lead the team to victory against the All Blacks the following week added another layer onto the achievement. It was probably a little bit lost in everything that was going on, but Tadhg Furlong also notched up a significant milestone in winning his 50th cap for Ireland. For a tighthead prop, a halfcentury of international caps is a hell of an achievement and Tadhg still has plenty left in the tank! Congratulations to Dan Sheehan on making his Ireland debut against Japan and then winning his second cap against Argentina. Dan worked incredibly hard in pre-season so it has been brilliant for us coaches to see him get his reward. It’s also been nice to see plenty of Energia AIL rugby in recent weeks. A number of Leinster players, both senior and Academy, have featured and the quality of games has been excellent. We rely heavily on all the volunteer work that goes on around the province at club and school level and it’s marvellous to see the energy and enthusiasm with which so many people support and help the game. Many of us simply wouldn’t be here without the work of the many volunteers out there. As always, a big thanks to all our sponsors, in particular Bank of Ireland. These are still challenging times, for all companies, but we hugely appreciate the backing you give the team. There’s lots to look forward to in the coming weeks. After Ulster tonight, we are back here on Friday for the visit of Connacht (with some tickets still available at the time of writing!). We then kick off our Heineken Champions Cup campaign at the Aviva Stadium against Bath, and I believe there are also tickets left for that – we’re going to need a full house and all our supporters in full cry. In the meantime, thanks to everyone for your continued support of the team. I hope you enjoy tonight’s game, and that we see you again soon. Leo
