Wellfield Development - Update
It seems the unsightly barriers on
Shepherds Hill will be with us for some
time, not to mention the continued loss
of access to the footpath. NCC insists
that the developer must come up with
an acceptable engineering solution to
repair the subsiding embankment, and
until this is done the footpath must
remain closed for safety reasons. NCC
are also prohibiting any further
construction on the new building next
to the road until the embankment
works are finished. So far the developer
has proposed one scheme, but NCC
engineers have rejected it, so no early
end to the eyesore which greets visitors
to Alnmouth is in prospect. Apart from
the visual impact of barriers, the Parish
Hindmarsh Hall AGM - 21 July at 7pm
Committee Members Wanted
The Hindmarsh Hall, one of the best equipped village halls in the County, is
thriving. It is used for a wide variety of events and activities and it is financially
secure.
The Management Committee, however, is facing a looming crisis because of the
advancing years of some of its members and a lack of new, younger recruits. The
Committee is acutely aware of the need to pass on the stewardship of the Hall to
younger and more able-bodied members over the next few years.
The duties of the Committee are not onerous and the current members find the
running of the Hall to be both enjoyable and rewarding. If you are over 18 and a
village resident who can take an active part in the running of the Hall, please attend
the AGM, or contact the Chairman, John Hall (830894) or the Secretary, Mike
Buckley (830700).
Suzuki in the Car Park
Suzuki chose Alnmouth car park for the photo
shoot for their new brochure. They came on
two days, one hot and sunny, the other overcast
and cold. Unfortunately the model family had
to play in the sand on the cold day but appeared
to enjoy themselves. The photos taken in the
Car Park are going to be used in Suzuki sales
Brochures, so in a couple of months you will
be able to see these and other photos taken
around Newcastle in their sales rooms.
Council thinks it is quite unacceptable
for the footpath to have been closed for
so long and has asked NCC to take
action so speed things up. We will let
you know of any further developments.
6 th Annual
A record number of exhibitors and fabulous weather made the 6 th Alnmouth Arts Festival the biggest and best
ever. This was truly a real community event, with so many from Alnmouth, as well as from our sister villages,
helping to put on the Festival, clear everything away afterwards and generally ensure its success; far too many to
mention individually, but very sincere thanks to you all.
However, one who really must be singled out is Pauline James, without whose enthusiastic commitment,
organising skills and capacity for sheer hard work, the rest of us would have had ten times as much to do. Thank
you, Pauline, from all your friends involved in the Festival, and please say you will take us to even greater success
in 2011. You’ve done it once; it is bound to be easier the next time!
We are now firmly established as a major arts event and we intend to continue its development. So if you want to
be involved in the best Arts Festival in Northumberland please look out for our Start-up Meeting in the autumn.
You will be very welcome.
