Autumn Winter Fashion S21/22
By Jessica Botterill
What is Autumn Winter Fashion to me?
Fashion is constantly changing day to day and season
to season, creating trends which are recreated on
social media, like ‘Tik Tok’ and ‘Instagram’. But what
are this years trends like? From fluffy Jacquemus
bags to long leather trench coats, this winters
fashion is definitely a contender…
The photos to the right of us are staple pieces in my
wardrobe this winter. You can probably establish
some well known brands, such as: The North Face,
PANGAIA, Jacquemus and Balenciaga. I think it is
important to have a diverse range of brands in your
A/W staples this year, from high-street brands to
designer pieces. But my all time favourite trend for
this years A/W fashion is the matching tracksuits,
styles with a leather trench coat and a cap.
As you may be aware, one of
the most prominent brands at
the moment is Jacquemus.
Now, I judged this brand
completely wrong. I thought
this would be one of them
‘come and go’ trends of the
summer where you buy their
miniature bags that can only fit
your keys in. But I was
completely wrong! Along with
the miniature bags, they have
so much more to offer: Ribbed
clothing, graphic tees,
jewellery, fluffy bags, and even
long shoulder bags. I could
even go as far to say that
Jacquemus could be the
ongoing trend of the A/W
seasons. My personal
favourites from their new A/W
collection is the so called
‘teddy bear’ bag (seen in the
bottom middle picture).
Picture from the Jacquemus Instagram feed:
Now lets talk about one of
Jacquemus’ high-street
competitors, Prettylittlething.
This picture is an example of a
Jacquemus dupe that most
people tend to lean more
towards when wanting to
spend their money wisely. Why
is this? Well first of all it’s a
fraction of the price, and they
can ‘get the look on a budget’,
which is what the consumers
die for. However, there is an
argument that if your going to
buy an expensive piece,
Jacquemus is the great first
designer to splash on!
A huge part of Autumn Winter fashion for me is comfort. If you don’t feel comfortable in the clothes
that you wear then you won’t feel stylish in it. Style comes from within you and how you feel when
flaunting an outfit, and as we know the Zara seamless sets are one of those pieces! They come in
several different colour ways ( I chose the three most popular for this season) and can be mixed and
matched with different clothing choices too. These can easily be dressed up with an oversized
bomber jacket, a shoulder bag, and a pair of chunky trainers. Or you can dress it down with a
matching zip up jacket, and a baseball cap.

This is a new and developing idea in the fashion industry that has become popular throughout 2021, the famous
‘renting an outfit’. The most popular brand I am familiar with is ‘HURR collective’ renting from all thing Poster Girl
to The Vampire’s Wife. The concept is that we can ‘rent’ an outfit or piece of clothing for normally 4 days to a
week, and it is for a fraction of the retail price, which is a win win for you! As you will only wear it once and can
save your money. Also, this means less production and clothing waste when it comes to sustainability, so really
there aren’t many downfalls to the idea. The only issue however, is the lack of inclusivity. Most smaller renting
pages on Instagram tend to only stock the most popular sizes (UK 6/8) which may be an issue for diverse sizes
that people like to wear. Potentially explaining that the renting industry may need more research when coming to
sizing.
RIP VIRGIL ABLOH
In my opinion, the new and upcoming brand ‘Off-White’ has made a huge impact
on the opinions on streetwear in the modern day. Unfortunately, some tragic
news was released on the 28 th November 2021 that the ‘Off-White’ founder,
Virgil Abloh, had died of cancer. To me, Virgil was an enormous asset to the
fashion industry and was a huge reason as to why street fashion is so much more
accepting and mainstream.
The top left and middle right photos connote Hailey Baldwin-Bieber’s wedding dress,
designed by Virgil himself in collaboration with Off-White. I first came across these photos on
Hailey’s Instagram, and of course they blew up as it was such an iconic moment for both
parties. The bottom left photo was taken from Off-White’s Instagram feed, which I think is a
great example of the neutral aesthetic, whilst also finding a balance between ‘wearable’
clothing but also unique designs for marketing and fashion show related content. One
question I do have in mind going forward for Virgil Abloh’s passing, is who will now take the
reigns from his amazing work? Especially being Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton Menswear.
