Antwain Clarke Portolio

Antwain Clarke holds a BSc in Urban and Regional Planning and is a self-taught Jamaican artist. His young career is an eclectic mix of art, business and other interests. Clarke was an organizing member of Kingston on the Edge (KOTE)- an urban arts festival based in Jamaica’s capital before taking up residence in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was represented by Moberg Gallery. Clarke gained acclaim for his highly detailed graphite pieces of varying scale that explore the folklore and wildlife of his Jamaican homeland. After returning to Jamaica in 2019, he worked in public office where he facilitated the Member of Parliament in Portland by providing strategy, governance and communications advice. Clarke has since started his own business specialising in aquascaping- the art and science of aquarium keeping.

ART & CULTURE

Beginning at the Naonal Gallery of

Jamaica, Clarke volunteered in the

Educaon Department before joining

KOTE. There he worked as a director,

assuming responsiblility for conceptualising,

organising, scheduling and

execung art and cultural events

across various venues within Kingston.

Following his involvement with KOTE,

Clarke was invited to be an assitant art

consultant to inspect and compile data

for the island-wide Scoa Bank art

collecon. He was also the assistant

researcher for the Caribbean Culture

Fund. In this capacity he provided

research support to the lead and

associate researchers, assisng in

social media engagement and content

development.

PUBLIC SERVICE

Clarke worked with the Member of

Parliament in Portland to manage

formal correspondences with internaonal

and local media, various

agencies and governments, conceptualise

projects. He represented the

MP in her absence, designed digital

artwork for publicaon, co-manage

the Cons- tuency Development Fund

and wrote proposal documents for

submission to government and

internaonal agencies in the areas of

community development, sports,

agriculture, housing and employment

generaon.

Clarke, under the direcon of Evan

Williams, draed the New Kingston

Redevelopment Plan and played

crucial roles in researching and designing

master plans across Jamaica.

These include the redesign of Papine

as a gateway to the Blue and Johncrow

Mountain World Heritage Site, envisioning

Port Royal as a tourism hub

and redeveloping the Railway Community

Centre in Port Antonio among

others.


ntwain Clarke is an Urban Planning

Honours Graduate with several years

of experience in Urban Studies, Arts &

Design, Planning and Administraon.

His unending passion is to obtain a career where

he could opmally ulise his edu- caon and

training to make significant contri- buons to a

progressive and dynamic organizaon; ulmately

impacng Jamaica in a posive way.
