LOF Defence Sponsors 2017 Canadian Police Canine Association Championship Trials
The Edmonton Police Service K9 unit is hosting the 2017 Canadian Police Canine Association
Championship Trials in Edmonton, AB September 15th-17th.
The Canadian Police Canine Association was formed in 1978 by several dog handlers who were
interested in seeing how their counterparts were performing in the same job as themselves. The
CPCA has grown considerably since those early years, however, our main objectives have remained
the same:
To promote friendship and brotherhood between all those interested in the training and
utilization of the Police Service Dog.
To unite and assist Police Departments in the training and continued improvement of Police
Service Dogs.
To establish and conduct regular “Police Service Dog Trials” for the purpose of establishing
levels of proficiency.
To provide educational material through publications and a website.
To coordinate the exchange of any advanced techniques of training in the utilization of
Police Service Dogs
To improve the image of the Police Service Dog to the general public.
Annually canine teams from across Canada come together in friendly competition to test their skills.
The events include: Tracking, building search, compound search, evidence location, and or detection
in drugs or explosives. The competition culminates in a public day event where the agility, obedience
and criminal apprehension portion of the competition are on display. At the end of the competition
the team with the most points through all events is awarded the coveted title of "Top Dog".
LOF Defence Systems is proud to be a Platinum sponsor with three StreetFighter Armoured K9
Harnesses available for top competitors.
Several competitors will also be competing while wearing their LOF Defence Systems Streetfighter
harnesses to showcase the harness and how it does not restrict a dogs ability to be agile or fight in
the harness.
The Streetfighter was designed specifically to overcome the challenges faced with most other K9
harnesses.
It is lightweight enough that a working dog can wear it for entire shifts without being
uncomfortable or getting tired.
The armour floats so the harness will not drag the dog down if there is a need to go in the
water
The armour protects all vitals
The vest does not restrict mobility so K9’s have their full range of agility and ability to fight
or apprehend a suspect in uniform
The harness contains Outlast Thermal Management Technology which helps regulate body
temperature and prevent the K9 from overheating in hot climates
The CPCA is have a public demonstration day as part of the 2017 Championship Trials on Sunday
September 17th at the Edmonton Ball Park.
