MEET OUR
EXPERT LECTURERS
TOM ABBOTT
Tom Abbott studied psychology and art
history in the US before completing his
graduate research in the history of art and
architecture in Berlin, where he now lives.
Tom also studied at the Louvre School of
Art History in Paris and has lectured around
the world, specialising in architecture and art
from the Renaissance to the Baroque and beyond.
DR JUSTINE HOPKINS
Dr Justine Hopkins is a freelance lecturer
and writer, specialising in art of the
19th and 20th centuries. Justine has
taught for various universities, including
Bristol, Cambridge, Oxford and London,
and lectures regularly for both Tate galleries,
the V&A, the National Gallery, and numerous
independent art groups.
DR ULRIKE ZIEGLER
Specialising in mediaeval art and in
cultural politics of post-war Germany
at the universities of Regensburg and
Aberdeen, Dr Ulrike Ziegler is a wellrespected
member of Art Pursuits and
has lectured at universities and for multiple
cultural institutions, along with organising and
leading many study tours in both Germany and Austria.
Ulrike is now working on Art Pursuits' German programme.
BARBARA PEACOCK
Barbara Peacock is Director of Wessex
Fine Art study courses and has run many
successful tours in both Britain and
abroad and lectures for the Art Society,
the Art Fund and for the National Trust.
She was a lecturer in the department of
Extra-mural Studies at the University of
Southampton.
ISABELLE KENT
Isabelle is an art historian, writer and
lecturer specialising in Spanish art. She
teaches regularly for the V&A, Art Fund,
Royal Academy and the University of
Cambridge. From 2017 to 2019 she worked
as the Enriqueta Harris Frankfort Curatorial
Assistant of Spanish Painting at the Wallace
Collection. Her book on collecting the art of Bartolomé Esteban
Murillo in Britain was recently published by CEEH. She received
her BA and MPhil in History of Art from Trinity College, Cambridge.
DR WILLIAM TAYLOR
Dr William Taylor has travelled and
lectured across the Middle East and
Central Asia and has published books
about these regions. As Chairman of
the Anglican and Eastern Churches and
vicar of St John’s church in Notting Hill,
London, William has personal contacts in many
monasteries and churches. He is a linguist and has worked in
Jordan, Cairo and Turkey; his PhD focused on Orthodox Churches
of the Ottoman Empire.
DR SALLY DORMER
As Director of the Early Mediaeval Year
Course at the V&A, Sally is an expert in
mediaeval art and history. She completed
her PhD at the Courtauld Institute, and was,
until recently, Dean of European Studies, a
study-abroad semester for undergraduates at
the University of the South and Rhodes College, TN, USA. Sally
also lectures for the Art Fund, the Arts Society, and Ciceroni.
NIGEL McGILCHRIST
Having lived and worked in the
Mediterranean area (Italy, Turkey &
Greece), for forty years, Art Historian,
Nigel McGilchrist has taught for several
universities in the USA and in Italy and now
lectures freelance. He has worked for the Italian
Ministry of Arts on wall painting conservation and
is the author of the 20-volume series, McGilchrist’s Greek Islands.
