Keukenhof Gardens 

Day 1: UK – Amsterdam 

We travel to Amsterdam, capital of the 

Netherlands, and enjoy a relaxing evening 

onboard our ship. 

Day 2: Amsterdam 

This morning you have the opportunity to join 

our optional coach excursion to the Aalsmeer 

Flower Auction, where you can experience 

the hustle and bustle of the auction floor and 

admire the stunning flowers traded daily from 

more than 10 countries (a packed breakfast 

will be taken because of the early start). This 

afternoon is free to explore at leisure. This 

evening you can join another optional excursion 

which reveals the best views of Amsterdam on a 

cruise around the city’s canals, with cheese and 

wine included. 

Day 3: Kinderdijk – Dordrecht – Antwerp 

This morning we reach Kinderdijk, which 

is renowned for its 19 beautifully preserved 

windmills. Our optional excursion visits one of 

the mills, where we learn about the lifestyle of a 

miller and the mechanism of a mill. We return to 

the ship and set sail for Dordrecht where you can 

join our optional excursion to Appeltern Gardens, 

which is home to 200 model gardens bursting 

with colour and inspiration. Dinner is served 

onboard this evening as we cruise overnight to 

Antwerp. 

Day 4: Antwerp 

We arrive in Antwerp this morning and here you 

can join our optional excursion to Kalmthout 

Arboretum which is located to the north of 

Antwerp. Its origins can be traced back to 1857 

where Charles Van Geert started a plant nursery 

in the heart of Antwerp, at the location now 

occupied by the Zoo and the Central Station. 

In Kalmthout he found space to test newly 

discovered plants — mainly conifers from China 

and Japan. He also introduced the first Belgian 

examples of Witch Hazel, Hydrangea, Hosta, 

Iris and many other plants. The Kalmthout 

Arboretum is a botanical paradise and covers 12 

hectares and has a collection of over 7,000 rare 

trees and shrubs and many more perennials 

and has grown into one of the world’s most 

prestigious botanic collections. On our optional 

excursion, we include entrance and a guided 

tour and there will be free time to explore 

at leisure. 

Day 5: Antwerp – Rotterdam 

This morning’s optional excursion takes you to 

the National Botanic Garden of Belgium (Meise) 

and the Plant Palace. This is one of the largest 

botanic gardens in the world, which also boasts 

an enormous glasshouse filled with more 

than 10,000 plant species. We return to the 

ship for lunch and begin cruising overnight to 

Rotterdam. 

Day 6: Rotterdam – Amsterdam 

After breakfast our coach departs for our 

included excursion to Keukenhof Gardens where 

there are over seven million bulbs on show. 

You can follow the pathways which surround 

shimmering lakes, ancient trees and wonderful 

works of art, plus browse the pavilions, find 

your way around the hedge maze and enjoy the 

entertainment taking place throughout the day. 

This evening we enjoy our final dinner onboard 

the ship and sail overnight to Amsterdam. 

Day 7: Amsterdam – UK 

We bid farewell to our captain and crew after 

breakfast and set off on the return journey.

Join us on board the MS Arena and cruise from Amsterdam to Arnhem, Nijmegen and 

Rotterdam. We will discover 32 hectares of spectacular blooms and themed pavilions at 

Keukenhof Gardens, one of the world’s largest flower gardens. Discover the rich history of 

Arnhem on a walking tour with a local expert. Stroll through the old town of Nijmegen - the 

oldest city in the Netherlands, nestled on the banks of the Waal River. There’s a chance to 

take in panoramic views of Rotterdam from the top of the Euromast observation tower. This 

is a fantastic cruise that is sure to leave you with fond memories. 


We travel to Amsterdam where we board our 

ship, the MS Arena and enjoy dinner on board. 

Day 2: Amsterdam – Arnhem 

Today we depart by coach for our included full 

day excursion to Keukenhof Gardens. Here you 

have plenty of time to explore the 32-hectare 

site and enjoy the swathes of flowers, themed 

pavilions and wonderful atmosphere that 

surrounds this world-class event. We re-join our 

ship in Amsterdam and set sail towards Arnhem. 

Day 3: Arnhem – Nijmegen 

This morning, there’s the opportunity to join 

our optional walking tour of Arnhem, in the 

company of a local guide. Arnhem is probably 

most famous for The Battle of Arnhem which 

was one of the largest battles in WWII. On our 

walking tour, you’ll see some of the key battle 

locations such as the John Frost Bridge and the 

St. Elizabethgasthuis. Learn more about the rich 

history of Arnhem as you pass the historic Rozet 

Building, as well as Devils House and Sabers 

Gate too. Enjoy lunch back on board the ship 

as we set sail towards Nijmegen, arriving later 

this afternoon. Nijmegen is the oldest city in the 

Netherlands, which nestles on the banks of the 

Waal River. We are berthed here overnight, so 

perhaps take a walk through the old town which 

takes you on a journey through time, starting 

with when the Romans first settled here. 

Day 4: Nijmegen – Rotterdam 

We sail to Rotterdam this morning, which is 

known as ‘Manhattan on the Meuse’ because of 

its impressive skyline, which showcases cuttingedge 

architecture. This afternoon, there’s the 

chance to join our optional excursion where we 

take a trip up the Euromast observation tower 

where you can see as far as Antwerp on a clear 

day. We enjoy our final dinner on board and are 

berthed overnight in Rotterdam this evening. 

Day 5: Rotterdam - UK 

This morning we bid farewell to our captain and 

crew and disembark for the return journey to 

the UK.

Day 1: UK – Rotterdam 

We travel to Rotterdam where we board 

our ship, the MS Arena and enjoy dinner on 

board. Rotterdam is located where the Rhine 

flows into the North Sea and is known as the 

‘Gateway to Europe’. When German and allied 

bombers targeted Rotterdam in 1940 in the 

Second World War, the city had to be rebuilt 

from the ground up with only the Church of 

Saint Lawrence left standing. Enjoy a relaxing 

evening onboard as we are berthed overnight in 

Rotterdam. 

Day 2: Rotterdam – Zaandam 

We sail from Rotterdam to Zaandam this 

morning, arriving in Zaandam mid-afternoon. 

Zaandam is located on the banks of the Zaan 

River and there’s free time to explore this 

charming town this afternoon. The Czaar 

Peterhuisje (Tsar Peter house) can be found in 

the centre of Zaandam and is one of the oldest 

wooden houses in Holland built in 1632. Peter 

the Great stayed here in 1697 before he left 

for the V.O.C. shipyards in Amsterdam. With 

his brief stay, he gave this humble wooden 

labourer’s house its name and fame. Enjoy a 

relaxing evening on board as we are berthed 

overnight in Zaandam. 

Day 3: Zaandam – Amsterdam 

Today we depart by coach for our included full 

day excursion to Keukenhof Gardens. Here you 

have plenty of time to explore the 32-hectare 

site and enjoy the swathes of flowers, themed 

pavilions and wonderful atmosphere that 

surrounds this world-class event. We re-join our 

ship in Amsterdam for our final evening meal 

on board.

Day 2: Amsterdam – Dusseldorf 

This morning is free to explore the quaint 

cobbled streets of Amsterdam at your leisure. 

Why not treat yourself to a guided boat tour 

around the famous canal network, giving you 

the best views of the city from the water. Or you 

can visit the Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh 

Museum or the impressive Rijksmuseum before 

setting sail for Dusseldorf at lunchtime. 

Day 3: Dusseldorf – Rüdesheim 

This morning we arrive in Dusseldorf, the 

German city famous for its fashion industry and 

huge art scene. You’ll experience a taste of the 

old and the new here, with modern and stylish 

architecture standing alongside more traditional 

buildings. You have the opportunity to join an 

optional guided tour of the city or, alternatively, 

Wine tasting tour 

why not indulge in a spot of retail therapy in the 

popular shopping area of Konigsallee. We return 

to the ship for lunch, before continuing on our 

way towards Rüdesheim. 

Day 4: Rüdesheim 

We arrive into the quaint wine town of 

Rüdesheim around lunchtime. There are two 

optional excursions to enjoy today. The first gives 

you the chance to visit the unique Siegfried’s 

Mechanical Museum and get a bird’s-eye view of 

the breathtaking Rhine Valley from a cable car. 

This evening you can join our optional tour to visit 

a traditional wine cellar and sample some of the 

superb wine that the region is so famous for. 

Day 5: Rüdesheim – Koblenz – Bernkastel 

We leave Rüdesheim this morning and set sail 

towards the historic city of Koblenz, one of the 

oldest, most beautiful and most diverse cities 

in Germany. This afternoon you can join our 

optional excursion to explore the pristine Sayn 

Palace with its tranquil butterfly garden. This 

evening we set sail towards Bernkastel. 

Day 6: Bernkastel – Trier 

We arrive into Bernkastel around lunchtime. A 

destination famous for its wine, there’s no better 

place to enjoy a bit of free time to yourself than 

in this picturesque 700-year-old town. Meander 

around the beautiful market square and pick 

your favourite spot to sit and watch the world 

go by, surrounded by half-timbered houses and 

gently-trickling fountains. Of course, it’s only right 

that you should do this with a refreshing glass of 

Riesling in hand! This evening, we sail towards 

Trier. 

Day 7: Trier – Cochem 

This morning we arrive into Trier where you can 

enjoy some free time exploring this ancient 

Roman city, which is one of the oldest in 

Germany. You can also join our optional walking 

tour which will give you a fascinating insight into 

the history and culture of the city, discovering 

ancient Roman ruins as you go. Later today, we 

return to the ship and set sail for Cochem. 

Day 8: Cochem – Andernach 

This morning we arrive in Cochem, an idyllic town 

set against the stunning backdrop of the Moselle 

River valley. Dominating the landscape is the 

towering, 11th century Reichsburg castle, which 

is over 1000 years old and features incredible 

panoramic views from the top. You can join our 

optional guided tour up to the castle and see 

its newly-restored neo-Gothic architecture up 

close. After lunch, we’ll continue onto Andernach, 

where we berth overnight. 

Day 9: Andernach – Bonn 

What better way to start our final day than with 

some optional wine tasting in Winningen? At 

lunchtime, we continue our journey to Bonn, 

the former capital of Germany and birthplace 

of Ludwig van Beethoven. Here you are free to 

explore the city at your leisure, but be sure to 

check out the Dragon Rock Railway, leading to 

the top of magnificent Drachenfels hill. It’s then 

time to cast off for the final time and cruise to the 

beautiful city of Cologne, dominated by its huge 

Gothic cathedral. 

Day 10: Cologne – UK 

This morning, we bid farewell to our captain, crew 

and ship and begin our return journey to the UK.

Day 1: UK – Cologne 

We travel to Cologne where we join our ship. This 

evening we enjoy a relaxing dinner onboard as 

we sail overnight towards Rüdesheim. 


Relax onboard as we cruise along the Rhine 

which leads us through the Rhine Gorge and 

past the legendary Lorelai. This afternoon we 

arrive at the quaint wine town of Rüdesheim. 

Here you can enjoy the town’s many highlights 

on our optional excursion, including a cable car 

ride for panoramic views across the Rhine valley. 

This evening we set sail for Speyer. 

Day 3: Speyer – Strasbourg 

This morning we arrive in the charming town 

of Speyer. Easily explored on foot, Speyer has 

a magnificent Romanesque Cathedral, as well 

as an abundance of museums and the remains 

of a medieval synagogue. You can also take 

advantage of our optional excursion to the 

Speyer Technical Museum which houses vintage 

cars, locomotives and an original Boeing 747 

Jumbo Jet. Lunch is served onboard before we 

sail overnight to Strasbourg. 

Day 4: Strasbourg – Basel 

This morning we arrive at the magnificent 

city of Strasbourg, which is well known for its 

world heritage status. Enjoy some free time to 

explore the main sights at leisure or take a walk 

around the old city. You can enjoy our fantastic 

optional excursion cruising along Strasbourg’s 

waterways, which is a great way to see the city. 

We return to the ship for lunch and an afternoon 

sailing to Basel. 

Day 5: Basel – Lucerne – Breisach 

We arrive this morning into the old University 

City of Basel. Here you can join our included 

full day excursion by coach to the Swiss resort 

of Lucerne. This scenic journey follows a route 

that tunnels through the Jura Mountains, before 

arriving at Lucerne - the historic and scenic heart 

of Switzerland. Here you can visit the beautiful 

Chapel Bridge with its prominent water tower, 

one of the most photographed landmarks 

in Switzerland. Tonight we sail overnight to 

Breisach. 

Day 6: Breisach – Alsace – Mannheim 

This morning we arrive into Breisach, where the 

Black Forest meets the Alsace. Here you can join

Germany. Here you have the morning to explore 

or join our optional coach excursion visiting the 

majestic city of Heidelberg, home of Germany’s 

oldest university. We return to the ship for lunch 

and cruise overnight to Miltenberg. 

Day 4: Miltenberg - Wurzburg 

We arrive at historic Miltenberg this morning 

where we have free time to explore. Explore the 

half-timbered houses which fill the Old Market 

Place or the oldest part of the town which sits 

between the Main River and the mountain 

Greinberg. Enjoy your lunch on board the ship 

before we set sail for Würzburg. 

Day 5: Würzburg – Bamberg 

This morning we arrive in the city of Würzburg, 

which served as the home of powerful 

prince-bishops for centuries. Join our optional 

excursion to visit Würzburg Palace, one of the 

finest pieces of baroque art in the world, its 8th 

century church and the Fortress Marienberg. 

There’s free time to explore at leisure before we 

set sail for Bamberg. 

Day 6: Bamberg – Nuremberg 

This afternoon we arrive at the beautiful 

Bavarian town of Bamberg, which is located at 

the start of the Main-Danube canal. Surrounded 

by seven hills, it boasts the most intact centre 

in Germany, with the old town listed as a World 

Heritage site because of its authentic medieval 

appearance. Join our optional tour of the city to 

enjoy the main sights including the cathedral, 

Altenburg Castle, the Old Town Hall and the 

former Benedictine Monastery. We return to the 

ship for our evening meal before we set sail for 

Nuremberg. 

Day 7: Nuremberg - Regensburg 

This morning, we arrive in Nuremberg, Bavaria’s 

second largest city after Munich. There’s the 

opportunity to join our sight-seeing tour. 

Most of the city walls still stand and inside you 

can explore the fascinating juxtaposition of 

medieval and modern life in an area. Filled with 

gothic churches, aristocratic houses, fountains, 

memorials, and romantic corners, all dominated 

by the Kaiser Castle. We enjoy lunch on board 

before sailing onwards to Regensburg. 

Day 8: Regensburg – Passau 

We arrive at Regensburg this morning, which 

is located at the northernmost point of the 

Danube and at the confluence of the Danube 

and Regen rivers. You’ll have the opportunity to 

join our optional city tour this morning, taking 

in one of the best-preserved medieval centres, 

which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. This 

evening, relax onboard as we sail overnight to 

Passau. 

Day 9: Passau – Salzburg - Linz – Melk 

We arrive in Passau this morning before we 

board our coach for our included excursion to 

Salzburg. Salzburg, Mozart’s famed birthplace, 

and the Sound of Music city, has an abundance 

of beautiful architecture, and at its centre is a 

UNESCO World Heritage site. Our guided tour 

takes in some of the highlights of this historic 

city, with its Baroque architecture and fantastic 

squares, where you can relax with a typical 

Austrian coffee and cake. We re-join our ship in 

Linz and this evening we set sail for Melk. 

Day 10: Melk - Passau 

This morning we arrive in the small town of 

Melk, which lies in the beautiful Wachau valley. 

Here you can join our optional excursion visiting 

the Benedictine Abbey. This is one of the most 

famous monastic houses in Austria and has 

been occupied by monks for over 900 years. You 

can relax onboard for the remainder of the day 

as we cruise to Passau overnight. . 

Day 11: Passau – Frankfurt (Coach & Rail)

We disembark in Passau this morning and 

travel by coach or rail to our overnight hotel in 

Frankfurt. Those travelling by air depart today.

After breakfast we travel by coach or rail and 

board our ship in Passau, known as the ‘three 

rivers city’ due to its unique location where the 

Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers meet. Those travelling 

by air join today. You can then enjoy a relaxing 

evening onboard as we set sail and cruise 

towards Melk. 

Day 3: Melk – Vienna 

This morning we arrive in the small town of 

Melk, which lies in the beautiful Wachau valley. 

Here you can join our optional excursion visiting 

the Benedictine Abbey. This is one of the most 

famous monastic houses in Austria and has 

been occupied by monks for over 900 years. You 

can relax onboard for the remainder of the day 

as we cruise to Vienna for an overnight stop. 

Day 4: Vienna – Budapest 

We spend a full day experiencing the delights 

of Vienna. Grand palaces, baroque castles, 

magnificent squares and striking monuments 

are just some of the key features of this beautiful 

city, which is a world heritage site. In the 

morning you can join our optional city tour 

followed by lunch onboard. This afternoon you 

can take advantage of our optional excursion 

to Schonbrunn Palace, which takes you on a 

journey through time as we explore some of the 

1,441 rooms. In the early evening we cast off and 

cruise towards Budapest. 

Day 5: Budapest 

Today we arrive into Budapest. Enjoy lunch 

onboard the ship before joining our optional 

tour of this fascinating city. Budapest is one of 

the most beautiful cities in the world with an 

extensive area recognised as a world heritage 

site. We can explore both sides of Hungary’s 

capital which is divided by the meandering 

Danube – traditional Buda and the more 

cosmopolitan Pest. Most of the famous sites are 

concentrated around Castle Hill on the Buda 

side, in downtown Pest and along the riverside 

walkways. Look out for the Royal Palace, 

Fishermen’s Bastion, the Parliament building, St 

Stephen’s Basilica, Heroes’ Square and the Chain 

Bridge. We return to the ship for a relaxing 

dinner onboard then there’s the chance to join 

our optional excursion to experience Budapest 

by night with a traditional folklore show. 

Day 6: Budapest – Bratislava 

Enjoy a morning in Budapest or join our 

optional excursion which takes you through the 

sweeping plains of Hungary to Lajosmizse. Here 

we visit a traditional stud farm and enjoy a tour 

of the grounds in a horse-drawn carriage, before 

watching a spectacular live Puszta horse show. 

We set sail in the afternoon and cruise towards 

Bratislava. 

Day 7: Bratislava – Dürnstein 

We reach Bratislava this morning where there’s 

the opportunity to join our optional excursion 

taking in this historic capital city, which is 

dominated by its castle and unique suspension 

bridge. We’ll enjoy a walking tour with a local 

guide and sample ‘Makovka’ which is a sweet 

white chocolate with poppy seed filling. Lunch 

is served onboard and the afternoon is free to 

explore Bratislava at your leisure before we enjoy 

dinner onboard and cruise towards Dürnstein. 

Day 8: Dürnstein – Passau 

The town of Dürnstein nestles among Austria’s 

most famous vineyards and is crowned by the 

ruins of the castle that once imprisoned Richard 

the Lionheart. It’s a beautiful place filled with 

cobbled streets, pretty courtyards and 16th 

century houses. After some free time we set sail 

for the final time and cruise towards Passau. 

Day 9: Passau – Germany (Coach & Rail)

We disembark this morning and travel by coach 

or rail to our overnight hotel. Those travelling by 

air depart today.

Day 1: UK – Munich (Coach & Rail) 

We travel by coach or rail to our overnight hotel in 

the Munich area. 

Day 2: Munich – Passau – Vienna (Coach & Rail) / 

UK – Passau – Vienna (Air) 

After breakfast, we transfer by coach or rail and 

board our ship in Passau which is known as 

the ‘three rivers city’ due to its unique location 

where the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers meet. Those 

travelling by air join today. Dinner is served 

onboard this evening as we relax and set sail 

through the Wachau valley towards Vienna. 

Day 3: Vienna – Kalocsa 

We arrive in Vienna around lunchtime, where 

there will be the opportunity to join our optional 

Vienna city tour. Our guided tour takes in the 

many highlights of Austria’s beautiful capital, 

including an abundance of grand palaces, 

baroque castles, magnificent squares and striking 

monuments. Later this evening, we set sail for the 

charming town of Kalocsa in Hungary. 

Day 4: Kalocsa – Belgrade 

We arrive in Kalocsa in the early afternoon where 

you will have free time to explore. Set on the bank 

of the Danube, Kalocsa is one of Hungary’s oldest 

towns and dates back to the early 11th century. As 

the town evolved it became known for paprika 

production and intricate handcrafted embroidery. 

This evening we enjoy dinner onboard before 

sailing to Mohacs and then onward to Belgrade. 

Day 5: Belgrade – Iron Gate 

We arrive in the Serbian capital of Belgrade 

around lunchtime. The city of Belgrade lies at 

the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. 

There is plenty of time to see the highlights of 

this fascinating city on our optional tour, which is 

a great way to see the main sights; including the 

huge Belgrade Fortress and St Sava Church, one 

of the biggest churches in the world. We enjoy 

dinner onboard this evening and sail overnight 

towards the Iron Gate. 

Day 6: Iron Gate 

Enjoy a full day cruising through the breathtaking 

scenery of Eisernes Tor, the Iron Gate, which is the 

largest river gorge in Europe and carves a channel 

through the Carpathian mountains. The views are 

spectacular, with the Derdap national park on the 

southern side of the Danube in Serbia and the 

Portile de Fier Nature Park on the northern side in 

Romania. It’s a fantastic day to spend relaxing on 

the sun deck. 

Day 7: Ruse – Tulcea 

This morning we arrive in Ruse, the fifth largest 

city in Bulgaria, where there’s some free time to 

explore. Ruse is one of Bulgaria's most elegant 

cities full of belle époque architecture, an 

abundance of museums plus its ruined Roman 

fortress, standing guard high over the Danube. 

Lunch is served on board the ship before we set 

sail towards the Romanian city of Tulcea. 

Day 8: Tulcea – Braila – Oltenita 

We arrive into Tulcea this morning where we will 

visit the Danube Delta on our included excursion. 

At lunch time we are transferred by coach to join 

a boat trip, where we will cruise along the River 

Danube as it makes its final journey to the Black 

Sea. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, consisting 

of 2,200 square miles of rivers, marshes and lakes, 

is the second largest delta in Europe and is full of 

wildlife. Lunch is served onboard so you can relax 

and enjoy the spectacular scenery. We rejoin our 

cruise in Braila, one of the largest Romanian ports 

on the Danube, and set sail for Oltenita. 

Day 9: Oltenita – Bucharest – Giurgiu – Iron Gate 

We arrive into the picturesque city of Oltenita this 

morning. Here you can join our optional excursion 

which takes you to the Romanian capital of 

Bucharest, where there’s plenty of time to explore 

the wide tree-lined boulevards and admire the 

many landmarks including Parliament Palace – 

one of the largest buildings in the world. We rejoin 

our cruise in Giurgiu and set sail for the Iron Gate. 


Today we have a full day cruising back through the 

magnificent Iron Gate. Relax onboard and watch 

the scenery drift by as we head towards Belgrade. 

Day 11: Belgrade – Novi Sad 

We arrive back into Belgrade at around lunchtime 

and from here you can take advantage of our 

optional tour of Novi Sad, the second largest city 

in Serbia. Take in the city highlights and discover 

the historic neighbourhood of Stari Grad on our 

optional guided tour of this fascinating city. This 

evening we enjoy dinner onboard before sailing 

onto Mohacs in Hungary. 

Day 12: Mohacs – Pecs – Budapest 

This afternoon, there’s the opportunity to join our 

optional city tour of Pécs, which is one of the most 

interesting cities in Hungary. Lying equidistant 

from the Danube to the east and the Dráva to 

the south on a plain sheltered from the northern 

winds by the hills, Pécs has a microclimate that

This morning we arrive in Budapest, considered 

by many to be one of the most beautiful cities 

in the world. You’ll have the chance to join our 

optional city tour taking in all the fantastic 

highlights the city has to offer. Explore traditional 

Buda or cross the river where you’ll discover the 

more cosmopolitan Pest. See the fairytale towers 

of Fishermans Bastion before having some free 

time to explore the rest of this amazing city. This 

evening, we set sail towards the Slovakian capital 

of Bratislava. 

Day 14: Bratislava – Melk 

We arrive into Bratislava in the afternoon where 

you can join our optional excursion taking in this 

historic capital city, which is dominated by its 

castle and unique suspension bridge. We’ll enjoy 

a walking tour with a local guide and sample 

‘Makovka’ which is a sweet white chocolate with 

poppy seed filling, before enjoying a relaxing 

dinner onboard our ship. This evening we 

continue cruising along the Danube towards 

Melk. 

Day 15: Melk – Passau 

We arrive in the Austrian town of Melk this 

morning, which is filled with quaint cobbled 

streets and striking buildings. It is also overlooked 

by one of the most splendid monastic houses in 

Austria – the Benedictine Abbey, which you can 

visit on our optional excursion this morning. Relax 

and enjoy your last night on board the ship this 

evening, as we cruise back towards Passau. 

Day 16: Passau – Cologne (Coach & Rail)

After a truly memorable cruise we bid farewell to 

our captain and crew and travel by coach or rail to 

our overnight hotel in Cologne. Those travelling by

Day 1: UK – Germany (Coach & Rail) 

We travel by coach or rail to our hotel in Germany 

for an overnight stay. 

Day 2: Hotel – Passau – Vienna (Coach & Rail) / 

UK – Passau – Melk (Air) 

After breakfast, we journey by coach or rail to 

Passau. It is here where we will board our ship – 

the MS Arena. Those travelling by air will join us 

today. Dinner will be served onboard this evening 

as we relax and set sail towards the historic 

Austrian town of Melk. 

Day 3: Melk – Vienna 

We arrive in Melk this morning, which is filled with 

quaint cobbled streets and striking buildings. You 

can visit the Benedictine Abbey on our optional 

excursion this morning. We enjoy lunch on board 

the ship before sailing onwards to Vienna, arriving 

later this evening. 

Day 4: Vienna 

We spend a full day experiencing the delights 

of Vienna. As well as being a World Heritage 

Site the ‘City of Music’ was also the once the 

home of Beethoven and Mozart. Accentuated 

by its beautiful architecture, it’s full of historical 

sightseeing opportunities, expansive palaces and 

magnificent museums. There’s the chance to join 

our optional city tour to visit the Hofburg led by a 

local guide. This afternoon, you can also join our 

optional excursion to the Spanish Riding School. 

We set sail this evening towards Budapest. 

Day 5: Budapest 

We arrive in Budapest around lunchtime where 

we enjoy lunch onboard the ship. This afternoon 

there’s the chance to join our optional tour of this 

fascinating city in the company of a local guide. 

Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in 

the world with an extensive area recognised as 

a World Heritage Site. We also include a wine 

tasting tour, before we transfer back to the ship 

for dinner on board. 

Day 6: Budapest – Mohacs – Belgrade 

This morning is free for you to explore Budapest 

at your leisure. There is plenty to see, including 

lots of stunning architecture such as St Stephen’s 

Basilica, the Hungarian parliament building & 

Matthias Church just to name a few. We set sail 

at lunchtime towards Mohacs and onwards to 

Belgrade. 

Day 7: Belgrade – Giurgiu 

We arrive in the Serbian capital of Belgrade 

which lies at the confluence of the Sava and 

Danube rivers. There’s the opportunity to join our 

optional city tour in the company of a local guide 

this afternoon. We drive out to the hill above 

the confluence of the Sava and the Danube 

and take in the Belgrade Fortress. We continue, 

passing some of the key highlights including the 

Cathedral Church of St. Michael. We enjoy dinner 

onboard this evening and sail overnight towards 

Giurgiu. 

Day 8: Iron Gate Gorge 

Enjoy a full day cruising through the breathtaking 

scenery of Eisernes Tor, the Iron Gate,

Mountains. The views are spectacular, with the

restaurant is also included, giving you a flavour of 

Romanian food and culture. We return to ship in 

Giurgiu for dinner onboard and overnight sailing. 


Today we have a full day cruising back through 

the magnificent Iron Gates which are the longest 

string of gorges in Europe. Passing through 

Serbia and Romania, you’ll see the tallest rock 

sculpture in Europe of Decebalus, the Dacian 

King, the most famous and narrow section of the 

Iron gates known as The Great Kazan, ancient 

carvings and a National Park as you watch the 

scenery drift by as we head towards Belgrade. 

Day 11: Belgrade – Mohac 

We arrive back in Belgrade at around lunchtime 

today where there’s the opportunity to join 

an optional tour visiting the Royal Palace. It is 

designed in the Serbian-Byzantine style. We 

enjoy a walking tour with a local guide where we’ll 

see The Royal Palace. We also see Tito`s Memorial 

before we set sail this evening for Mohacs. 

Day 12: Mohacs – Bratislava 

We spend a relaxing day and evening cruising 

towards Bratislava – the Slovakian capital that lies 

in the southwestern part of the country. The city is 

dominated by Bratislava Castle, which stands on 

a plateau 85 metres (279 feet) above the Danube. 

It was built in the 9th century. 

Day 13: Bratislava 

We arrive in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava this 

evening, where we are berthed overnight.

Day 14: Bratislava – Linz 

This morning is free to explore Bratislava at 

leisure or you can join our optional excursion 

taking in the historic capital and the Primate's 

Palace by train and foot. The tour begins at the 

monumental building of the Slovak National 

Theatre. Along the promenade you will get to 

the Gothic St. Martin's Cathedral - the coronation 

church, you will see the city walls alongside the 

oldest university building in the city and the 

famous St. Michael's Gate. 

Day 15: Linz – Passau 

We arrive in Linz this afternoon where there’s the 

chance to join our optional excursion visiting the 

baroque old town and Linz Castle, with a local 

guide. We include entrance to the castle which is 

now a museum housing a collection of 19th and 

20th Century artworks. We set sail this evening 

for an overnight sailing to Passau. 

Day 16: Passau – hotel (Coach & Rail) / UK (Air)

Day 1: UK – Munich (Coach and Rail) 

We travel by coach or rail to our overnight hotel 

in the Munich area. 

Day 2: Munich – Passau (Coach and Rail) 

/ UK – Passau (Air) 

After breakfast, we’ll travel by coach or rail and 

board our ship in Passau, where we’ll be joined 

by those who have travelled by air. Known as the 

‘three rivers city’, Passau is situated where the 

rivers Danube, Inn and Ilz all meet, so there’s no 

better place to begin our cruise. This evening, 

enjoy a relaxing dinner onboard as we set sail 

towards Vienna. 

Day 3: Vienna – Budapest 

Arriving in the early afternoon, you have plenty 

of time to explore Vienna and the option to join 

a guided tour of the Austrian capital too. The 

birthplace of classical music boasts a UNESCO 

World Heritage historical centre, more than 150 

grand palaces and no fewer than 27 baroque 

castles. Home to spectacular squares and 

magnificent monuments, it really is a magical 

city. After an afternoon of sightseeing, we return 

to the ship and begin our onward journey 

towards Budapest. 

Day 4: Esztergom – Budapest – Bratislava 

This morning, en route to Budapest, we’ll 

continue our relaxing cruise along the mighty 

Danube as we pass by the impressive Esztergom 

Basilica. Sitting atop Castle Hill, it’s the largest 

church in Hungary and has a 72-metre-high 

central dome that can be seen for miles around. 

Our captain will slow the ship right down as 

we drift by, so there’s plenty of opportunity to 

capture a stunning photograph of the sights 

from our vantage point on the water. Then it’s 

full speed ahead as we continue our journey to 

Budapest, where we arrive at around lunchtime. 

Here you can spend the afternoon exploring 

what many refer to as one of the most beautiful 

cities in the world. There’s an optional city tour 

available where you’ll get to take in all the key 

sights, such as the Royal Palace, Fishermen’s 

Bastion, the Parliament building and more. 

Divided into two by the flowing Danube, you’ll 

experience Castle Hill and the traditional Buda 

side of the city, as well as the cosmopolitan 

side of Pest too. We set sail for Bratislava in the 

evening. 

Day 5: Bratislava – Weissenkirchen 

At around lunchtime today we arrive into 

the ancient city of Bratislava, the capital of 

Slovakia. The skyline is dominated by the 

striking Bratislava Castle and the city’s unique 

suspension bridge; demonstrating the blend of 

the traditional with the modern. Join our optional 

guided walking tour, where you’ll experience 

the city’s highlights , as well as sampling the 

sweet delicacy ‘Makovka’ too. Relax onboard this 

evening, as we cruise towards Weissenkirchen. 

Day 6: Weissenkirchen – Passau 

This morning, we arrive in the picturesque 

village of Weissenkirchen in the heart of Austria’s 

Wachau Valley. You’ll enjoy some free time here, 

where you can explore the village and wander 

along the banks of the river, before we continue 

to Passau. 

Day 7: Passau – Germany (Coach and Rail) 

/ UK (Air) 

After breakfast, we bid farewell to our captain 

and crew and travel by coach or rail to our 

overnight accommodation in the Cologne area. 

Those travelling by air will be transferred to the 

airport for the return flight. 

Day 8: Germany – UK (Coach and Rail)

Happy New Year! This morning we continue 

our course down the Rhine arriving into

and is dominated by its cathedral, a gothic 

masterpiece which hovers above the 

rooftops. You are free to explore this vibrant 

city at leisure, before we enjoy our final dinner

market town of Wallingford, former home

Midsomer Murders. Here we have some time to 

step ashore before the African Queen cruises 

downstream stopping for lunch at a riverside 

inn. We cruise to Mapledurham where we moor 

for the night and enjoy a light supper onboard. 

Day 3: Mapledurham – Caversham – Sonning 

Today we sail downstream to Caversham for 

some free time ashore at this historic town. 

We enjoy lunch onboard the African Queen 

and continue sailing to Sonning, a picturesque 

village described by English writer of Three 

Men in a Boat, Jerome K. Jerome, as ‘the most 

fairy-like nook on the whole river’. This evening 

we have dinner at the Mill at Sonning Dinner 

Theatre, the only dinner theatre in the UK 

which was also the inspiration for Toad Hall in 

The Wind in the Willows, before watching a 

wonderful performance in this beautiful 18th 

Century watermill. 

Day 4: Sonning – Henley-on-Thames 

This morning we continue downstream to 

Henley-on-Thames, recognised around the 

world for its annual royal regatta. The historic 

town is only few strides from the Thames and is 

filled with beautiful buildings. You can explore 

the town, walk along the Thames path, visit the 

River and Rowing Museum and see the statues 

of Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent, 

or enjoy a 3D exhibition dedicated to Kenneth 

Grahame’s novel The Wind in the Willows 

(entrances not included). A barbecue is served 

back onboard followed by an entertaining 

quiz night. 

Day 5: Henley-on-Thames – Mapledurham 

We enjoy a final morning cruising back to 

Mapledurham where a delicious roast dinner is
