any room for them to move. This

sometimes leads to the chickens

injuring or killing one another.

These filthy conditions can casuse

diseaseand infections. Drugs and

genetic selection are also used to

grow bigger chickens faster.

HISTORY OF THE

RUBBER

CHICKEN

The origin of rubber chickens is still

widely unknown, but there is historical

edividence that suggests the

influence of practices from different

time periods preceeding the

invention of rubber. The first of these

is inflacted pig bladders that jesters

carried on a stick, which were used

as props or mock weapons. Jesters

would also use dead chickens as props

or “slapsticks”, which were readily

available. There are also examples

of clowns using prop chickens in the

early 1900s. Some people believe that

the symbol originated during the French

Revolution because soldiers would hang

a chicken from their muskets to bring them

good luck.
