ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF <strong>2012</strong> OAKLAND A’S<br />

• Trailed Texas by five games with nine games remaining and became the first team in Major League<br />

history to comeback from a deficit of five or more games with fewer than 10 games remaining to<br />

win a Division or Pennant<br />

• Trailed Texas by 13 games June 30 and become the fifth team in Major League history to win a<br />

Division or Pennant after trailing by 13 or more games<br />

• Posted the best record (19-5) in the month of July in franchise history.<br />

• Since June 2, registered the best mark (72-38) in the Majors.<br />

• Staged a Major League-leading 14 walk-off victories this season, including eight within a 16-game<br />

home stretch from June 21 through July 22. Eleven different players hit walk-off homers this season<br />

(Crisp 3 times, Moss twice).<br />

• Registered 10 series sweeps, including a first-ever four-game sweep of the Yankees and two threegame<br />

sweeps of the Red Sox at home.<br />

• Tied the <strong>Oakland</strong> record with 12 straight road wins (Aug. 24-Sept. 12).<br />

• Starting pitchers walked three batters or fewer in 44 straight games from July 30-September 15, the<br />

longest streak by an A’s team since at least 1921.<br />

• Etched the best pitching staff ERA (3.48) by an <strong>Oakland</strong> team in 12 years (3.18 in 1990).<br />

• Bullpen led the American League with a 2.90 ERA, the lowest ERA by an <strong>Oakland</strong> relief corps<br />

since 1990 (2.35).<br />

• This season have used 12 rookie pitchers who have combined for 319 games pitched and 54 wins—<br />

both <strong>Oakland</strong> records.<br />

• Beat the Blue Jays in Toronto, 16-0, on July 25 to equal the franchise record for the biggest shutout<br />

victory.<br />

• Defeated the Red Sox in <strong>Oakland</strong>, 20-2, on Aug. 31, marking only the fourth time in <strong>Oakland</strong> history<br />

the A’s have scored 20 runs in a game, and the first time in 12 years (23-2 vs. Texas in 2000).<br />

• Turned the eighth triple play in <strong>Oakland</strong> history in the fifth inning of the A’s 4-1 win over Minnesota<br />

at the <strong>Oakland</strong> Coliseum Aug. 21 (Trevor Plouffe grounded into a 5-4-3 triple play, Donaldsonto-Rosales-to-Carter).<br />

• Rookie reliever Ryan Cook opened the <strong>2012</strong> season by reeling off 23.0 scoreless innings from<br />

March 28 through May 27. He allowed only four hits and a .056 opponents batting average during<br />

the streak.<br />

• Brandon Inge, only a week after being acquired, hit four home runs and drove in 16 runs over a<br />

five-game stretch from May 6-11, including grand slams vs. Toronto (May 8) and Detroit (May 10).<br />

• Starting pitchers Tommy Milone (13-10) and Jarrod Parker (13-8) set an <strong>Oakland</strong> rookie record for<br />

most wins in a season.<br />

• Rookie starting pitcher Jarrod Parker allowed one run or fewer in 10 of his first 14 Major League<br />

starts, becoming only the second pitcher since 1900 to allow one run or fewer in 10 of his first 14<br />

starts (Ferdie Schupp, NY Giants, 1913-17).<br />

• Rookie starting pitcher A.J. Griffin went 6-0 with a 1.94 ERA over his first 11 starts, becoming<br />

only the second pitcher to be undefeated in at least his first 11 Major League appearances, all starts,<br />

while maintaining an ERA under 2.00 (Jered Weaver, 9-0 with a 1.95 ERA over his first 12 starts<br />

with the Angels).<br />

• Griffin also is the first pitcher in <strong>Oakland</strong> history to start his career 6-0, and is the only Major<br />

League pitcher since at least 1918 to allow three runs or fewer and walk two batters or fewer in<br />

each of his first 11 career starts.<br />
