1988 ALCS<br />
The A’s sweep the Boston Red Sox in four games to win their first American League pennant in 14<br />
years. The A’s hit .299 in the series and the pitching staff posts a 2.00 ERA while holding the Red Sox<br />
to a .206 batting average. Dennis Eckersley was named ALCS MVP after saving all four games and<br />
the bullpen recorded three of the wins. Dave Henderson hit .375 and Jose Canseco hit three of the A’s<br />
seven home runs.<br />
Jose Canseco homers in the fourth inning of Game 1 but Dave Henderson provides the game winning<br />
single in the eighth inning in the A’s 2-1 victory. Game 2 is a scoreless tie until the Red Sox score twice<br />
in the sixth off Storm Davis but Jose Canseco hit a two-run home run and Mark McGwire added a RBI<br />
single in the seventh to give the A’s a 3-2 lead. After the Red Sox tie the game, Walt Weiss has the game<br />
winning RBI single in the ninth. The A’s outscore the Red Sox 10-6 in Game 3 as Carney Lansford,<br />
McGwire and Ron Hassey have three hits each while Hassey drives in three runs. The A’s clinch the<br />
series with a 4-1 win in Game 4 as Dave Stewart allows a run in seven innings for the win. Jose Canseco<br />
homered in the first and Dave Henderson had a RBI single in the third before the A’s score two insurance<br />
runs in the eighth.<br />
