Happy
Moms Corner
Story by Elwin West,
Champions resident
We usually start the year off with salutations and screams of “Happy New Year!” We send
cards out to friends and family, wishing them well throughout the coming year. But what
happens around mid-January? We are back to some of the same
New Year
routines.
But now that we have so much changed with variants and technology, we have to keep up.
Not only are we still trying to find a “healthier you,” but we are also still trying to make sense
of whether we will really be going back to normal, or if we have to prepare to continue working
from home and having the kids ride this wave of wondering if they may remain in school or go
back to virtual learning.
It can be overwhelming for the family, so what should we do with all this information? We
must learn through it all and try to keep the family together. After all, that’s what we do, right?
We must still try and have a sense of humor, have a movie night if it’s inside the home or out,
sit out on the patio and talk/dream with our kids or spouse, and play music in the house. We
must let it get a little crazy and make sure we have some dance moves, too. With all the crazy
in the world, we have to make sure our homes are our safe places and our places to have fun.
We need to be sure not to always wear worry on display or seriousness on our faces. Kids
need to see that mom and dad are human, and they can have fun in their element.
So, how about at any given time, be different this year. Yell out, “Happy New Year!” and have
a party. Who says you can’t? It’s your house and you can party when you want to! You can
set the tone of fun! So, no resolutions this year. You will break them by the third week anyway.
Just start the year by being grateful that you made it, and pray that you make it all year
through. So, when you have the party, invite a neighbor, they will be glad you did.
I plan on doing more of that this year. After seeing so much devastation on the news, I want
to make sure I am present for those around me. Suppose you don’t have a group? Create one.
There are also so many on Facebook you can join -- just make sure the group can bring you
joy and it’s something that can make you grow as a person.
So, Happy New Year, and welcome to 2022! May you have a prosperous year and be blessed.
