Alo. A smart nurses watch aimed
at reducing work-related stress
through data collection & AI
pattern recognition.
After refining hundreds
of sketches
down to these 3
forms, I combined
the best attributes of
each design; forming
what is now ‘Alo’.
6 Development
Combining complex
surfacing with simplistic form
to create a design which
stands-out from the ‘rest’
‘Alo’ ( æ - low ) stems from the latin verb
‘Alere’, meaning to cherish, nurse & support.
An appropriate name for a device
designed to maintain the wellbeing of
staff in the Healthcare sector... It also
sounds like a cheery “Hello” which works
as well.

Hours of prototyping,
finishing & assembling went
into creating the first Alo
appearance model.
From low fidelity modelling, like card and
foam, to much more refined SLA resin
prints; I made sure to develop each feature
to ensure its success as a product.

Alo monitors the wellbeing of
staff, automatically allocating
avaliable staff and resources
to overworked areas.
After magnetically
attaching either side
of the users clothing,
Alo monitors
Oxygen Saturation,
Skin Temperature,
Heart Rate as well
as GPS to provide
a real-time map
of the working
environment.
11
From Airborne Pathogen
Detection to ‘3D’ directions,
Alo is packed full of helpful
software and technology.

Coinvenience. A coin-based ticket
machine designed for everyone.
Photography This project puts the is the user art, at
the core of the designing
application, and practice of
process, combining hours of
creating research & testing durable into images this by
recording improved experience. light, either
electronically by means of an
image sensor, or chemically by
means of a light-sensitive
material such as photographic
film.
Completed in collaboration with four
other amazing designers, I focused on
the translation of research into CAD
- combinbing hours of R&D in user experience
into a functional concept which
truely addresses the brief “design an
inclusive coin-based ticket machine”

Utilising VR technology, Rapid
Prototyping and User Testing has
never been easier.
During a time where ‘face-to-face’ user
testing wasn’t an option, the use of VR to
create tangible environments and situations
was a valuable resource.
After collecting primary and secondary
data on able-body and wheelchair users,
I used Gravity Sketch to communicate
design ideas in real-time to the rest of the
team.

Featuring a hydraulic height
system and redesigned
payment layout, paying for
parking has never been
simpler.
Orange. A project exploring
colour, materials and form.
Orange is a combination of
the pracitcal & digital side of
design - understanding CMF
and how to translate that into
the ‘real world’.
An A-Level project, remastered. I took this
idea and used it as a chance to refine my
understanding of CMF and how I could
replicate it in CAD as well as in a practical
prototype.
Inspired by the segments of an orange,
this modern stool concept merges form
and function into stunning statement
furniture. Its textured acrylic dome adds
an extra level of intrigue to the already
non-orthodox tripod leg design.

The user-adjustable segments allow
for custom storage, combined with the
partially-transparent bowl, makes for a
interesting experience.
The minimal lid magnetically attaches
to the bowl below, and sports the simple
logo design I created in conjunction with
this project.

26 CMF Design
This project allowed me to gain a
better understanding for
modelling & rendering software,
especially mapping custom
procedural material textures to
effectively translate my desired
CMF.

Oni-Go. Starpack silver awardwinning
design, a fun and
Covid-safe way to enjoy food
whilst on the move.

Compact, eco-friendly &
effective onigiri packaging to
bring japanese foods to the
rest of the world.

Starpack Award-Winning design which
takes an unusual spin on the traditional
onigiri packaging. The result of the
Graphic Packaging International brief,
Oni-Go uses recycled cartonboard as an
effective and multi-functional packaging
solution for anyone ‘on the go’... see what
I did there?

Slide. A concept toaster which
reinvents the way we toast,
offering an easier and more
efficient start to your day.
38 Development
Covid won’t stop me from
prototpying, just give me
some foam blocks and a
couple of pens
After many sketch
models, ideation
sketches & revisions,
I could confidently
progress into the
next stages of my
design.

Slide’s improved quality-oflife
features such as
detachable tongs, visual &
audible indications set it
apart from the traditional
toaster.
40
harryrigler.co.uk 41
Slide’s smooth lofted chasis reflects that
of ‘soft form’ design, effortlessly blending
from one part into the next. The dial
selection offers a visual colour spectrum
of toasting; more intuitively than the
ambiguous 1 - 5 scale adopted by most
modern toasters.
The result. A toaster centred around the
user, featuring multiple quality-of-life
aspects such as the transparent viewing
window to the dual-functioning handle /
tong option (no more burnt fingers with
this toaster).

I’m Harry Rigler and I
believe Design is the art of
creating obvious solutions
in the most beautiful ways.
Born in Dorset and studying Industrial
Design & Technology at Loughborough
Univeristy, I have a great passion for
design.
I like to think of myself as a kind,
approachable individual, and I believe
this is translated through my designs;
refining the form and function to best
meet the needs of the user.
