Editor’s Letter 

Welcome to the 

English Edition of 

JUNIA Magazine! 

The magazine 

JUNIA has been 

printed in Sweden 

for more than 20 

years. It began when I heard God 

speak with an audible voice about 

starting this magazine. It was in one 

of my life´s toughest periods. I was 

diagnosed with a disease and was 

not able to work fulltime. 

It was an experience when there 

was a need to take steps forward 

without knowing the outcome. 

It started with magazines all over 

our living room. Now we have the 

printed magazine for subscribers 

and also reaching health centres in 

Sweden. 

Last year we started the English 

Edition with a Facebook page and 

now we are beginning the digital 

edition. 

Life often involves situations where 

we need to show courage. But it’s not 

always easy to make it work. 

Here are some things to keep in 

mind: 

Courage is not the absence of fear. 

Courage is to dare to do the right 

thing regardless of our feelings. 

Courage has to do with how you 

perceive yourself. If you know you 

are loved and valuable then it is 

easier to show courage. 

Through faith in Jesus Christ, you 

will find a source of courage. God 

loves you so much that He gave 

Jesus to set you free. Jesus also has 

the power to overcome all the things 

that can hurt our lives. 

Continue to trust that through faith 

in God you can show courage even if 

life is tough. 

I pray that this magazine will give 

you hope, encouragement and 

the keys to find God as the great 

provider of joy and life.

In spite of this diagnosis, nobody seems to 

notice. More than 30 years ago the Lord spoke to 

me very strongly. A woman who did not know me 

and did not know about my disability, gave me a 

message from the Lord during a service on the 

first day of a Bible school in Maine. He said that 

He would heal my blind eyes. Until then, I was to 

walk in faith as if I could already see. He would 

take care of the rest. 

A couple of years ago I received an explanation 

for the miracle I am living, the miracle that no 

one seems to notice that I cannot see well. A 

person that works with visually impaired people 

told me, “I have never before seen a person with 

impaired vision and the natural body movement 

of a sighted person! Such a person usually 

moves in a specific way because he can’t see his 

surroundings”. 

The miracle I have lived is that my subconscious 

and my central nervous system do not seem to 

realise that I cannot see. For example, my feet 

always run up stairs, and it is exciting for my head 

to follow. When somebody hands out printed 

material, the hands receive it before the head 

starts to ask what I am going to use it for (because 

I cannot read it). Automatically I seek eye contact 

with those with whom I speak, even though I 

cannot see the head of the person, as my central 

vision is missing.

My consultant at the hospital 

has talked to me about breaking 

down my resistance to using a 

white cane that was given to me 

30 years ago. But as I have not 

fallen or tripped yet without the 

cane, I would probably do so with 

the cane, because of the speed I 

normally walk! I live in this miracle 

daily. Almost every day people ask 

me about it, and that gives me an 

opportunity to testify to what God 

is doing. 

A couple of days after that 

prophetic word 40 years ago, 

concerning acting as if I could 

see, the big test came. We were 

about to have gym class at school, 

and for that semester we were 

going to play baseball. This is a 

completely impossible sport for 

me to play, as I cannot see the ball 

in time. How then would I manage 

to hit the ball? First I thought I 

would ask to be excused from 

class, but then I was reminded of 

the prophetic word. The Lord also 

gave me Philippians 4:13: “I can 

do everything through him who 

gives me strength.” Now I just had 

to test this! All the other players 

had grown up playing baseball, 

but for me it was a new game. At 

last it was my turn to take the bat 

and I said a prayer, “Lord Jesus, 

help me hit the ball!”. Then I started 

swinging the bat around, the ball 

came flying through the air – and I 

hit it! Unfortunately the ball landed 

on first base and I was out. 

The next inning, I asked for a 

good hit! I continued to play the 

whole season and had good hits 

throughout. I would be able to run 

to either second or even third base 

before they got the ball. They said 

that I played better than most of the 

other team members. Every gym 

class became a miracle. Imagine – 

God cares about ball games! After 

30 years it was time to try again. 

Our church was playing a baseball 

game and I had not thought about 

participating. However, because 

there were small children playing 

too, I thought that maybe I should 

give it a try. Imagine – it still worked! 

I made four home runs! Life with 

Jesus is very exciting and a lot of 

fun!

I love walking. I prefer to walk 

outside when the sun is shining, 

the air crisp and the sky blue. But 

I’ll also walk when it’s cloudy and 

raining. I’ll walk in the city and I’ll 

hike in the countryside. 

During the recent pandemic, I’ve 

walked all over the world and never 

left my Stockholm apartment as I 

walk in place to YouTube videos. My 

daughter once bought me a Fitbit 

as a gift. She wanted us both to 

track the steps we walk each day 

and share the experience together 

on the Fitbit app. But after a while, 

she said, “Mom, stop walking so 

much! You always have twice the 

number of steps that I do each day!” 

Even more than physical walking, I 

love walking with Jesus – spending 

time daily with Him, acknowledging 

His presence with me during every 

step of my day. 

My heart’s desire for you is that 

you would walk every day with 

Jesus as well. Why don’t we share 

the experience together? That is the 

purpose of this regular column in 

Junia magazine.

In order to walk daily with Jesus, 

we first need a clear understanding 

of who Jesus is and who He 

claims to be. There are so many 

descriptive words that the Bible 

uses to describe Jesus and we 

will take a look in this column at 

a number of them. Jesus is the 

Savior, the Lord, the Redeemer. 

He is the Healer, the Restorer, the 

King. 

As we look at these descriptions 

and others, I will personalize them 

for myself and I hope you do the 

same. Jesus is my Savior. Jesus is 

my Lord. And so forth. But before 

I can personalize Jesus in my life, 

I need to clearly know who He is 

in the eternal realm as part of the 

triune God. And the Bible declares 

that Jesus himself is God. 

In the Gospel of Matthew, we 

have the account of Joseph being 

unsure about taking Mary to be 

his wife because she had become 

pregnant. He knew he wasn’t 

the father, and this troubled him 

greatly. An angel appeared to him 

in a dream and told him not to be 

afraid; Mary was pregnant by the 

Holy Spirit. He was to marry her 

and name his new son Jesus and 

all the people would call this child 

“Immanuel” which means “God 

with us.” God was coming from the 

eternal realm into the very world 

he created. He was coming to walk 

with us. 

Today, as we journey together 

with Jesus, let’s reflect on the fact 

that we are hand in hand with God 

himself and he is actually walking 

with us. No matter what difficulties 

we face, or what obstacles are in 

front of us, we have God by our 

side. Immanuel is right here. There 

is nothing in the world that is better 

than that. Do not be afraid, dear 

friends. God is with you.

A friend of mine, Kerstin, has lived a large part of her 

life in South Africa, where this happened to a woman in 

her church. The woman was confronted by a stranger in 

her kitchen, threateningly wielding a large kitchen knife 

in his hand. 

She understood that he was there to kill her, but didn’t 

want to scream since her children were watching 

television in the bedroom. She was afraid her scream 

would draw them to the kitchen and risk them being 

hurt. She called out: “Lion of Judah, help me!” This is 

one of the names of Jesus in the Bible. 

Suddenly, the man dropped the knife and ran away. The 

woman called the police and gave them a description of 

the man. When the man was arrested, she asked to see 

him in jail, so she could ask him why he suddenly ran 

away. 

He told her that as she prayed, he saw a roaring lion 

standing on its hind legs behind her. He ran away so he 

wouldn’t be eaten. There was no lion in the kitchen, and 

the woman understood that God had sent his protection 

and helped her in a somewhat unusual way.

Persistent Prayer for All the Saints

My friend Jean will tell you—no matter what 

the circumstance, no matter how impossible it 

may seem, regardless of how much Satan has 

done to destroy your child’s life—never give up 

praying for God’s glorious work. I must admit 

I wasn’t always hopeful for her daughter Joey, 

but Jean never stopped rallying intercessors 

to pray for a miracle.

Although Joey grew up in the church, attended 

a Christian high school, and knew the promise 

of Jeremiah 29:11 (God has plans for her future), 

Joey chose a hard life – rebellion, addiction, 

prostitution. She knew the darkest of the 

spiritually dark places. 

It wasn’t until after years of her mom’s faithful 

prayers (and nine stints in treatment centers), 

that Joey found her freedom in Christ. God 

turned Joey’s life around in a dramatic way. She 

has been clean for nearly 20 years and even 

worked for a Christian drug treatment center. 

Group Effort 

Jean and Joey gave their powerful testimonies 

on a Sunday morning in Jean’s small church in 

northern Minnesota. 

Jean thanked those who prayed week after

week, year after year, for Joey to return to 

the Lord. She recounted the many times 

assurance of people’s faithful prayers 

encouraged her. 

On one occasion, when she walked into 

a children’s Sunday school classroom, she 

saw her daughter’s name written on the 

whiteboard. Suddenly she realized all the 

children were praying for Joey. 

Another time, a volunteer firefighter, 

tragically paralyzed in an accident during 

a fire, asked about Joey from his hospital 

room. He had been praying for her in spite 

of his own traumatic injuries. 

Joey, hearing these stories for the first 

time as her mom spoke, was stunned to 

realize how many people had not given up 

on her. 

This little church recognizes that spiritual 

warfare exists and that Satan intends to 

consume believers and families. But the 

Christians there are committed to praying 

persistently for all believers everywhere. 

As fellow soldiers they “watch each other’s 

backs.”

Warfare Prayer Mode 

The Apostle Paul closed his letter to the 

Ephesians with a dire warning and a plea 

for his fellow believers to “stand firm” 

against the devil’s schemes. He didn’t 

paint a picture of Utopia for the Church;

rather with sobering language he 

described the darkness churning 

around them. And he urged them 

– and us – to take both defensive 

and offensive battle postures (Eph. 

6:10-17). 

Paul then told them how to 

pray. His instructions, loaded with 

wise exhortations, came from the 

experience of this man who knew 

how to battle 

“against the rulers, against the 

authorities, against the powers 

of this dark world and against 

the spiritual forces of evil in the 

heavenly realms” (v. 12). 

Paul knew how to approach 

battles with the strongest arsenal 

possible—prayer in the Spirit 

always, without giving up, and for 

every believer. He knew that all 

believers, the “saints,” are engaged 

in a serious battle for the sake of 

the gospel: 

Pray in the Spirit at all times 

and on every occasion. Stay alert 

and be persistent in your prayers 

for all believers everywhere. And 

pray for me, too. Ask God to give 

me the right words so I can boldly 

explain God’s mysterious plan that 

the Good News is for Jews and 

Gentiles alike. I am in chains now, 

still preaching this message as 

God’s ambassador. So pray that I 

will keep on speaking boldly for 

him, as I should (Eph. 6:18–20, NLT, 

emphasis added). 

Paul did not instruct people to 

pray quick “fix-it” prayers to get 

themselves out of a jam or make 

their lives more comfortable. If that 

were the case, he might have said, 

“Please pray that I’m not beaten or 

stoned today. And pray that I won’t 

be shipwrecked again. And one 

more thing – prison is getting old. 

Please pray I am found innocent 

immediately.” 

Instead, Paul pursued greater 

purposes in prayer – that God 

might equip all the saints to know 

and share the love of Christ, while 

at the same time destroying the 

works and arguments of Satan (Col. 

2:2–3; 2 Cor. 10:4). 

SO HOW CAN WE PRAY 

EFFECTIVELY FOR EACH OTHER 

WITH THIS WARFARE MINDSET? 

1. Pray in the Spirit for one 

another—always. Seek the 

wisdom of the Holy Spirit to guide

your prayers. Tune into the urgency 

of the day and the seriousness of 

Satan’s prowling around us (1 Peter 

5:8–9). The Holy Spirit knows all 

things and helps us to pray even 

when we don’t know how. 

Paul gave us a wonderful truth 

and prayer tip in Romans 8:26–27: 

“The Spirit helps us in our 

weakness. We do not know what 

we ought to pray for, but the Spirit 

himself intercedes for us with 

groans that words cannot express. 

And he who searches our hearts 

knows the mind of the Spirit, 

because the Spirit intercedes for 

the saints in accordance with God’s 

will.” 

Partnering with the Holy Spirit 

will open our hearts to “prayer 

prompts” aligned with God’s 

purposes. We may not have perfect 

insights in the spiritual battles 

raging around us, but the Spirit has 

perfect knowledge to guide us. 

2. Stay alert in prayer for one 

another. When Jesus asked the 

three disciples to stay awake and 

watch with Him in the hours before 

His death, Peter, James, and John 

discovered that good intentions to 

stay alert on behalf of their friend 

were not enough. Jesus returned to 

them three times, and three times 

He found them in a sleepy stupor. 

He warned them to step up their 

prayer efforts: “Keep alert and 

pray. Otherwise, temptation will 

overpower you. For though the 

spirit is willing enough, the body is 

weak” (Mark 14:38, NLT). 

We cannot take anything for 

granted regarding the spiritual 

lives of our fellow believers. When 

we are tired, overwhelmed, or just 

plain careless in our prayer lives, 

we may open a door for Satan to 

slip in to tempt us – or our brothers 

and sisters—toward destruction. So, 

stay awake and alert at all times in 

prayer for the saints – because one 

quick “nod off” may be all Satan 

needs to move swiftly. 

3. Stay persistent in prayer for 

one another. As long as we remain 

here on this earth, engaged with 

demonic and subtle evil forces 

surrounding us, there is no safe 

moment to let up on our prayers. 

My mom is one of the most 

persistent prayers I know. She has

various lists of people she prays 

for, and her prayer schedule is 

multilayered. She prays for some 

people daily. Others on a certain 

day of the week. Still others one 

day a month. If you get on her 

prayer list, you don’t get off until 

God has answered her prayer or 

dramatically changed your life. She 

is always alert and ever persistent 

in her prayers for fellow believers. 

4. Pray toward the future faith 

of one another. Imagine being 

Peter and knowing that Jesus 

was continuously praying for you, 

always encouraging you, and that 

He had the insights of heaven to 

pray specific prayers that framed 

your destiny. That must have been 

a comfort to Peter, that is, until 

Jesus warned him that Satan had 

asked to sift Peter like wheat – and 

it was going to be painful. 

Yet, Jesus prayed toward Peter’s 

future despite Satan’s plan. Jesus 

assured him, “I have prayed for you, 

Simon, that your faith may not fail. 

And when you have turned back, 

strengthen your brothers” (Luke 

22:31–32). 

Of course, God answered that 

prayer powerfully following Peter’s 

denial of Christ and subsequent 

repentance, and it culminated in 

significant ministry. 

It’s possible that Satan has asked 

to sift each of us. We live in such a 

dark and tempting world that we 

are just one poor decision away 

from personal devastation. 

Recognizing that our children, 

spouse, or friends might at any time 

succumb to the sifting of Satan, we 

need to pray toward their future. 

Regardless of the potential sin 

or failure, we can be praying in 

advance that our loved ones will 

not fall away from the faith but 

eventually repent and experience 

the good future God has planned 

for them. 

Battling Together 

Paul pleads for his beloved friends 

to pray for him, but first he asks 

that they pray for all believers 

everywhere. If you are a follower 

of Christ who is committed to the 

advancement of the Kingdom of 

God - and you live in this fallen 

world ruled by evil principalities and 

powers - you can expect trials and 

opposition. In fact, Peter wonders

why we are surprised when 

opposition rises against us (1 Peter 

4:12). 

But Peter also reminds us that 

fellow believers around the world 

experience extraordinary suffering 

and persecution for the sake of 

Christ (1 Peter 5:9). We have the 

opportunity to pray for friends we 

may never meet on earth. 

British journalist Dan Wooding 

describes the plight of Alexander 

Ogorodnikov, a Christian dissident 

who spent many years in the Gulag. 

After five years of imprisonment, 

he wrote to Mikhail Gorbachev 

and asked if he could be executed 

by a firing squad. During his long, 

hopeless years in prison, he had 

not received one visit or even a 

letter from a Christian. 

Wooding heard of this fellow 

believer’s anguish and organized 

a letter-writing campaign, urging 

Christians around the world to pray 

for Alexander and send messages 

of hope. 

Although Alexander was never 

allowed to read the letters, his 

guards took him into a room to see 

sacks of mail addressed to him. He 

was overwhelmed to realize that 

people really did care about him. 

From that point on, he felt the 

prayers of God’s people. When the 

guards placed him in a punishment 

cell, hoping he would freeze to 

death, Alexander would suddenly 

feel God’s arms wrap around him, 

warming him. He sensed God was 

waking people up at that moment 

to pray for him night after night. 

Eventually Alexander was 

released. And he testified that he 

knew unknown friends around the 

world were faithful to pray for him. 1 

We Need Each Other 

If you are a follower of Christ, Satan 

has targeted you for destruction, 

discouragement, and despair. 

That’s the reality of spiritual 

warfare. In this evil world, we 

desperately need God – and we 

need each other. 

Let’s keep on praying always for 

all the saints. And let your fellow 

believers know “you’ve got their 

backs.”

Sometimes when I’m out and talk about 

“Dare to Believe in Your Dream”, I find myself 

being very encouraged by my own words. 

Because I need it, I need to hear time and 

time again that I can, that it’s okay to fail, but 

that I can anyway. 

Therefore, I am not afraid to take a risk and 

fail, because I have discovered that failure is 

not an event but rather an estimation of an 

event. Failure is not something that happens 

to us or a label that we put on something. It 

is a way of looking at a result. 

Before Jonas Salk developed a polio 

vaccine that was effective, he came up with 

two hundred that did not work. Someone 

asked him, “How did it feel to fail two 

hundred times?” 

“I have never failed two hundred times in 

my life,” Salk replied. “I’ve learned not to 

use the word failure. I’ve only discovered 

two hundred ways not to vaccinate against 

polio.“ 

And when Edmund Hillary, after several 

unsuccessful attempts to climb Mount 

Everst, stood below the mountain, he 

clenched his fist and said defiantly, “I’ll 

defeat you one day. Because you’re not 

getting any bigger than that – but I’m still 

growing.”

Each time Hillary climbed and 

failed, he learned something and 

one day he did not fail. 

Dare to take a risk means that you 

and I can discover life’s possibilities 

here and now. Don’t think God has 

created us into “couch potatoes”. 

No, He has a purpose for our lives. 

He has given us gifts, creativity, 

intelligence and even the courage 

to do what can bring satisfaction in 

life. 

The challenge of taking a risk 

lies in overcoming fear. The fear 

of failure, of being laughed at, not 

trusted, or simply not being able to 

cope all the way out. 

So I want us to use our 

imagination a bit. Imagine being 

able to see everything God could 

do in your life if you had allowed it. 

Imagine what He could have done 

with your talent if you had trusted

finances if you trust Him. Imagine 

if you finally ask God for help – He 

who knows you and knows what is 

best for you and who is capable of 

doing far more than we can pray or 

think – just imagine what He could 

do! 

You have searched me, Lord, and 

you know me. 

You know when I sit and when I 

rise; you perceive my thoughts 

from afar. 

You discern my going out and my 

lying down; you are familiar with all 

my ways. 

Before a word is on my tongue

SHORT STORY 

Carried by Angels to Heaven

A friend of mine, who works in northern Afri ca, told the story of a woman’s 

encounter with angels, which eventually led to her becoming a Christian. 

Her husband had been watching 

Christian television broadcasts, 

through which he became 

a Christian. She, however, 

experienced this as being very 

difficult, because she was a very 

devout Muslim. One day when 

her husband was driving a large 

truck carrying gas tubes, there 

was a terrible accident. The entire 

truck exploded and he died almost 

instantly. 

The woman told my friend: ”I 

thought my hus band had gone 

to hell, but that night I woke to a 

powerful shaking of the ground. I 

heard someone call my husband’s 

name and I went out on the 

balcony. 

There, I saw two men in glowing 

white clothes standing on either 

side of my husband, who was lying 

down. He looked so peaceful and 

he was also dressed in glowing 

white clothes. The two men lifted 

up my husband and carried him 

away towards heaven, further 

and further away until they finally 

disappeared. 

I was completely shaken by this, 

but at the same time, thankful that 

God had shown me this vision.” 

After this, she was convinced 

her husband had been taken to 

heaven. 

In the last book of the Bible, it tells 

about the white clothes and the 

heavenly multitude, as it says, 

“After this I looked, and there 

before me was a great multitude 

that no one could count, from 

every nation, tribe, people and 

language, standing before the 

throne and before the Lamb. They 

were wearing white robes and 

were holding palm branches in 

their hands.” 

(Revelation 7:9). (NIV)
