Eurovets, F10 Reiterate Importance of
HAND HYGIENE &
BIOSECURITY
The event was held at iCademy Middle East - Knowledge Hub
as an effort to increase awareness around hand hygiene and the
importance of biosecurity
United Arab Emirates, Dubai, 26 th Oct, 2021:
Eurovets - the leading wholesale distributor for the UAE's animal health industry that offers a comprehensive premium
product range for small to large animals collaborated with one of its leading brands F10 to host an event on hand
hygiene and biosecurity. The event was held for students and staff at iCademy Middle East - Knowledge Hub, as an
effort to increase awareness around hand hygiene and the
importance of biosecurity.
The event kicked off with an activity to demonstrate how germs spread from hand to surface and vice versa, when
you don’t wash hands properly. This was done
using glow germ and UV light. In addition, the
Pledge to Hand Hygiene activity used a tree
skeleton image. Children were asked to write
their names on hand cut outs and paste on
the tree as new leaves. In return they received
goodie bags from Eurovets/F10.
A team of four experts from Eurovets and
F10 were present at the venue to provide
perspective on hand hygiene for all in addition
to outlining the importance of biosecurity.
There was also a presentation on How to
Maintain Hand Hygiene.
Mark Gradwell, Business Development
Manager from F10 shared his thoughts on the
importance of hand hygiene and biosecurity.
The event by Eurovets and F10 aimed to raise
awareness of hand hygiene at a young age. For
this purpose, the company has been engaging
with schools in organising various awareness
activities around the same.
It has been noted that 3.5 million children
globally are affected from diseases related
to hand hygiene. Hand Hygiene offers most
efficient response to pandemic as it removes
germs, reduces health risk, prevent spread of
germs and pathogen to others.

WOUND MANAGEMENT
The remarkable road to recovery of a Lesotho pony called JoJo
FIRST HAND REPORT FROM DR KATHERINE BARKER, VETERINARIAN AND TRUSTEE: CLUNY ANIMAL TRUST
BIOSECURITY
"JoJo's recovery was nothing short of remarkable, and because of this,
I am convinced of F10's efficacy"
On the afternoon of 22 October 2018 I received a call from a local farmer
that a pony that he had seen a month earlier on his farm had reappeared,
and seemed to be in very poor condition with severe wounds. The pony was
not tame, and he was unable to catch him.
I went to the farm with one of the Cluny Animal Trust Animal Welfare
Assistants and we were able to herd the thin and weakened pony into a cattle
crush to examine him. We sent photos to a Johannesburg horse rescue to
find out if they would be prepared to take him, as we are not equipped to take
on a wounded wild pony long term. Their response was that the wounds were
so severe, and infected, ii might be kinder to euthanaze him, but they would
leave that decision to us.
After a short discussion, we called on the rest of the Cluny Animal Trust team
to assist us to anaesthetise and further examine the young pony. Having no
halter to hand, we fashioned one out of nylon rope, and managed to get it over
the pony's head, and with more ropes over his neck and torso, we held him
to the side of the crush in order to find a vein to administer anaesthetic. Once
he was down, I found that the wound was so necrotic that I was able to pass
a hand through his neck and my fingers came out of holes on the other side!
With the assistance of the AWA's we shaved, flushed with diluted F10SC
Veterinary Disinfectant, debrided and placed drains in the wound, gave
him some long acting antibiotics, and anti inflammatory drugs, and sprayed
copious amounts of F10 Germicidal Wound Spray with Insecticide over the
entire area.
We concluded that the young colt was attacked at some stage in his
wanderings by a stallion, as there were less severe, more obvious bite marks
down his dorsal midline. A month or two prior to his appearance on the farm
there had been a horrific motor vehicle accident one night, about a kilometre
away, involving a car and a horse. I had euthanazed the horse on the spot,
with a broken spine, and herded two other horses into a convenient field, but
apparently two additional ponies had fled the scene and disappeared. The
herders, supposedly Lesotho citizens had also disappeared before I arrived,
so we were unable to get any details. We presumed that this pony was one
of the missing ponies from that group.
We reported the stray pony to the police, but to date have not had any news
of claimants.
Over the next 2 weeks, we sedated the pony (now named JoJo by my
daughter) twice to do further cleaning and flushing with F1 0SC and debriding
of necrotic tissue, and sprayed the wounds with F10 Germicidal Wound Spray
with Insecticide every second day. We gave one more dose of long acting
penicillin 3 days after the first dose, on 25 October 2017. After 5 November,
when we removed the drains under sedation, we continued spraying the
wounds with the F10 Wound Spray every 5 days or so for a month. Thereafter
the wounds were dry enough and healed enough not to require any further
regular treatment. We still had to place JoJo in a crush to work with him, and
being able to spray the wounds from a distance made treating him easy. He
was an extremely defensive pony, and hooves flew, front and back when we
approached him to work on him.
Over time he has become more trusting, and now we are able to handle him
on a halter in a small paddock. His wounds have healed beautifully, and he is
growing into a handsome young chap, thanks to the Cluny Animal Trust team,
and the wonders of F10.

Regular Attention
The hooves of a horse require constant attention and care.
• Cleaning and inspecting your horse's feet daily is critical.
• One of the most crucial and necessary things to
accomplish is to pick out the horse's feet.
• Any stones or small objects lodged in your horse's feet
must be removed.
• Keep an eye out for turnout injuries regularly.
• Check the heat and pulse before leaving the
stable in the morning. A healthy horse's hoof should be
somewhat warm and consistent in temperature.
Trim Regularly
While the rate at which a horse's hoof
grows determines how often it should
be trimmed, it is recommended that
your horse be trimmed regularly
to maintain good health. Because
hooves grow slowly in the winter, it is
recommended to trim every 6 to 12 weeks
instead of every 6 to 8 weeks in the summer.
Hoof Cracks, Abscess & Thrush
Hoof cracks can be avoided by trimming the hoof, using
a hoof moisturizer, and eating a balanced diet with the
best horse hoof vitamins from a brand that supports safe
and superior quality supplements. Equi4s, for example, is a
Belgian equestrian brand that promotes high-quality, safe
nutrients to keep your horses healthy.
An abscess is a hoof infection brought on by any outside
foreign body lodged in the sole. Remove the object, soak
the foot in the warm water, wrap it up and keep it clean and
dry (Abscesses can be avoided if your horse's feet are picked
Nutrition
It matters what you feed the horse. Good quality and
balanced diet with Equine feed in Dubai are essential.
You can provide your horse commercially available hoof
supplements for horses, which, according to research, assist
enhance hoof condition and a monitored diet in proportion
to energy used and the labour and exercise done by the
horse. Horse joint supplements and other equine supplies
in Dubai will help your horse, and its hooves stay healthy.
How to Keep Your Horse's
Hooves Healthy and Strong
Who hasn't heard the phrase "a good hoof makes a
wonderful horse" or "no hoof, no horse"? It emphasizes
the importance of a healthy hoof and how it may cost you
a horse if it isn't properly maintained. While a proper diet
equine supplements, psyllium for horses and nutrition is
important, hoof care is the single most critical aspect that
can affect your horse's overall health. As a result, good foot
care is extremely vital. The following are some suggestions
for keeping your horse's hooves healthy and strong.
Maintaining the Health of
Your Horse's Hooves
Although a balanced foot is crucial for the horse's
enhanced movement, stress and pressure on the bones,
tendons, and ligaments can occur if the hooves are not
balanced. Therefore,
Make sure to keep the hoof and pastern at a 90-degree
angle
A straight line from the pastern to the front of the hoof
wall must be drawn. The bones between the pastern and
the coffin bone are now perfectly aligned.
Quick Changeover
If the toe is squared, rounded, or rolled, the mobility with
each step will be much easier and more efficient.
A lot of break time might be dangerous and lead to health
problems.
Appropriate Heel Support
The shoe stretches back to the end of the hoof wall,
providing good and balanced support for the entire hind
leg.
Even Walk
It's critical to maintain a good balance between the medial
and lateral sides. As the horse walks, its foot should land
evenly on both sides.

VETS AT THE BRITISH VETERINARY CENTRE REMOVES A 3.2 CM LONG FOREIGN
BODY FROM A DOG’S NASAL CAVITY.
The golden retriever accidentally inhaled a tree bark
United Arab Emirates, 26th October 2021:
Bella, an 8-month-old golden retriever was brought into the
British Veterinary Centre’s Khalifa City branch on 23rd
September as she had a history of epistaxis (nosebleeds).
Dr Belal Al Sahlab, examined Bella and suspected a foreign
body. A diagnostic CT scan was performed, and Dr Belal
confirmed Bella had a foreign body in her left nasal cavity;
6 cm into the nostril.
Dr Belal immediately
scheduled Bella for a
rhinoscopy guided foreign
body retrieval, together with
Dr Serghii and his nursing
team.
About the British Veterinary Centre:
CT scan showing the foreign body
Founded in 1991 in Abu Dhabi, the British Veterinary
Centre has grown to be the region’s leading provider of
primary and referral veterinary care in the middle east.
Their main branch is located in Khalidiya, Abu Dhabi and
has their second branch in Khalifa City A, Abu Dhabi.
The team located the foreign body in the patient, and later
inserted foreign body forceps adjacent to the rhinoscope.
The 3.2 cm long foreign body was carefully retrieved
through the passage, with minimal damage caused to
the nasal cavity tissue. It was found to be a tree bark! The
surgery was performed using Karl Storz’s video endoscope,
which is available in the UAE through Eurovets - the leading
wholesale distributor for the UAE's animal health industry
that offers a comprehensive premium product range for
small to large animals.
“It is not very common that we find foreign objects in the
nasal passages of dogs and
cats. It can cause serious
injury to the nasal cavity
and involves a high risk of
infection to the rest of the
respiratory tract. Therefore,
the object has to be carefully
removed as soon as possible”
said Dr Belal Al Sahlab. Bella
was bright and alert the next
day and went home happy
and healthy with her very relieved owners!

CORONAVIRUS
IN-HOUSE TEST KITS
3 Tips FROM EXPERTS
1. Check all cats for antibodies to FCoV
▶ Most FCoV infected cats
remain asymptomatic
2. Always check a young cat first
▶ Around 80% of cases diagnosed
are in cats less than 2 years old,
and many cases are seen in kittens
around 4 - 12 months old.
3. Use serology test for FIP diagnosis

◆ It’s highly contagious
◆ FCoV affects the gut
Cats become infected
with FCoV when they
ingest the virus.
SIGNS
◆ Intermittent fever
◆ Extreme lethargy

The virus attaches to and

The replicated virus then

Effective Tips to Treat
CAT BAD BREATH
Breath speaks a lot about the oral health of the pet, especially in the case of cats. A foul smell from the cat’s
mouth can be a warning sign of various periodontal diseases. Lack of proper treatment at an early stage may
lead to serious illnesses that can deteriorate the feline healthy and quality of life. Before moving towards
solutions for bad breath in cats, we first need to understand the root cause of it, plaque buildup. While plaque
removal is much easier, without regular oral care, it may turn into a harder tartar form. Tartar formation under
the gum line can lead to various infections and other serious illnesses in cats. The following measures can
help in maintaining your cat’s oral health:
Cat Water Additives
A regular oral care routine is the first step
towards saving the cat from tartar formation.
Brushing it's teeth may take a while, and some
feline friends are reluctant to do it. Clinically
proven solutions such as Oxyfresh dental care
water additive are ideal for ensuring regular
dental care for the cat. Simply add Oxyfresh
premium pet dental care solution to your
feline’s fountain or drinking water bowl to treat
plaque effectively.
Dental Treats
Along with daily dental care with Oxyfresh
water additive, you can support their oral health
with dental treats. While choosing a dental
treat for your furry companion, you should be
careful to pick one with low carbs and more
plaque-fighting enzymes. However, these
treats are only meant to be a supplementary
method for fighting plaque.
Dental Sprays
Veterinary supplier in Dubai offers various
dental sprays to freshen up your cat’s breath.
These branded dental spray solutions contain
different natural and non-toxic ingredients
that can effectively neutralize bad breath and
clean the cat’s teeth and gums.
Special Diets
Careful planning of the
cat’s diet is also a gradual
but powerful step towards
fighting feline bad breath.
Pick more high-protein
foods and real fresh meat for
your cats, along with a lot of
water, which will also avoid
dehydration problems.
Dryness in the mouth
due to dehydration
also leads to bad
breath.
Get Good Veterinarian Help
Finally, but most importantly, an appointment with a veterinarian will help you maintain your cat’s health. As bad
breath may also indicate serious illness like feline diabetes, liver problems or even kidney diseases, it is essential to
get professional aid before its late. Through routine examinations using complex medical equipment, veterinarians
identify the root cause of bad breath and treat them on time.
