“REPURPOSING FABRICS”<br />
A competition by the<br />
Fédération Française des Dentelles et Broderies<br />
For the fourth time, the Fédération<br />
Française des Dentelles et Broderies<br />
has organized the biennial competition<br />
“Repurposing Fabrics,” showcasing<br />
interpretations of lace <strong>and</strong> embroideries<br />
in new applications.<br />
Following the deliberations of two juries<br />
made up of some thirty professionals<br />
from the lace <strong>and</strong> embroidery, textile<br />
design, fashion, trends <strong>and</strong> trade fairs<br />
sectors, 23 projects were accepted, <strong>and</strong><br />
four received awards (two in the Fashion<br />
Category <strong>and</strong> two in the Design<br />
Category).<br />
Through the reinterpretation of laces <strong>and</strong><br />
embroideries, the competition’s goal was to inspire creative, exploratory work<br />
by re-thinking, re-composing, <strong>and</strong> even re-inventing laces <strong>and</strong> embroideries for<br />
unusual applications in fashion, textiles or design. It also encouraged<br />
exchanges between professionals <strong>and</strong> future designers.<br />
Some of the creations, including the four award winners, will be<br />
exhibited near the General Forum. Interfilière, which was part of the jury,<br />
also pays homage to this historical <strong>and</strong> emblematic fabric of the trade<br />
fair.
