THANK YOU

CHARITY GOLF DAYS

With most planned charity events cancelled due to the

pandemic, special thanks go to very generous golfers at

the Barnard Charity Golf Days, the Royal Norwich Golf

Club Captains’ Weekend, the Norwich Inns Golf Day

and the Eaton Golf Club Captains’ event.

INTRODUCTION

The Priscilla Bacon Hospice charity launched the £12.5 million fundraising appeal to build

the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge in February 2019. Within little more than a year, we were

delighted to announce that we had passed the halfway point of our fundraising target.

However, the world then faced the Covid-19 pandemic; the biggest challenge the health

and care system has faced in living memory. The pandemic did not diminish the need for

a new specialist hospice for Norfolk and Waveney; it exacerbated the existing demand.

Throughout the pandemic, the Trustees and staff have worked relentlessly on fundraising

and on developing a cutting-edge design for the new hospice.

Despite the economic climate, we were thrilled to

announce during the summer of 2021, that we had

raised more than £10 million of our fundraising target.

CYCLING STARS

Julia Gooch and Lyndon Tunmore

completed a 20-week, 5,000-mile

fundraising cycle ride around the

coastline of Great Britain. Their epic

adventure was inspired by friends

who received end-of-life care at

Priscilla Bacon Lodge.

PLANTING FOR PRISCILLA

We were very grateful to Alan Titchmarsh for judging our

lockdown gardening competition. It was one of many new

online fundraising initiatives launched during the pandemic.

He was incredibly impressed by the high standard of the entries.

This sum has been raised thanks to a remarkable groundswell of support from Norfolk,

Waveney and beyond. It represents a direct response to the pioneering care which

countless families have received at The Lodge over the last 40 years.

When Priscilla Bacon Lodge opened in 1979, it was the first hospice in East Anglia and

one of the earliest hospices in the country. When the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge opens

in 2023, it will be the first hospice built in the post-Covid era, encompassing the latest

developments in infection control. The new facility will not only meet current needs, but

will be fit for the future, with the potential for further growth and the flexibility

to adapt to changing models of care.

Work is under way on the site, so now is the time to help raise the final funds required to

build the new hospice.

The new Priscilla Bacon Lodge will be a lasting legacy to the generosity of the people of

Norfolk and Waveney, who have continued to support end-of-life care for over 40 years,

and it will be the new specialist facility so urgently needed.

It is a privilege to be the Chair of this campaign and an honour to have been able

to provide resources and most recently the gift of the superbly located 8-acre site, upon

which the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge will be built.

I hope that you will enjoy reading this brochure and learning more about the new

hospice and that you will join me in thanking the remarkable volunteers, fundraisers and

supporters who are vital to our campaign.

Thank you on behalf of the Trustees and staff.
