VENTURE UPDATES
In the harvest season of 2020, we ran an
initial small-scale trial pilot in rural China to
harvest sea buckthorn leaves and capture
learnings of setting up this new agricultural
supply chain.
The first 500kg sea buckthorn leaves are
turned into our DesertSpring tanning agent
to perform lab tests with our project partner
Bhartiya, followed by other leather brands
as potential clients.
The first lab tests of our tanning agent
at Bhartiya in India showed results beyond
positive: Not only is the quality great, but
the tanning process might be more
efficient than regular industrial agents!
We launched the first large scale pilot for
the harvesting season of 2021. For the first
time 20,000 kilograms of sea buckthorn
leaves were harvested in China - Gansu
province mid July. Together with 70-100
pickers we facilitated a fair and sustainable
process.
Simultaneously we’re in conversation with
multiple fashion brands to introduce
DesertSpring tanned leather in the market.
