The Changing
Of The Guards
As the old motorsports guards beat their
timely retreat, motorsports in Barbados is
being given a new lease on life life with the
infusion of new energy from a set of young,
enthusiastic and capable competitors.
This group of youngsters are stepping up to
take over where Trevor Manning, Paul Bourne,
Roger Skeete, St.Elmo Cumberbatch and
many others have left off. Zane Maloney,
Tremaine Forde-Catwell and Dane Skeete, to
name a few, are ensuring that the sport
remains a major attraction for locals and
visitors alike.
The youngsters while new to rallying and
circuit racing, are not totally new to the sport.
They were competing in Karting for many
years, so they fully understand the demands
and discipline needed to successfully
participate and be competitive in the sport.
Zane Maloney is a prime example of what is
possible. Barbados and the Caribbean can
now boast of having a Formula 3 driver who
will hopefully reach the highest level in the
sport

This magazine is a result of
sleepless nights, days in the sun
and rain and an effort to satisfy the
needs of motorsports fans who
follow the various aspects of the
sports in Barbados and the wider
Caribbean.
This is an effort to move our
coverage to a more accessible
platform for our followers and to
also ad more value for the
corporate sponsors who gave us
their loyal support over the years.

Zane currently races in FIA F3. In 2019, as a
rookie, he won the 2019 British F4 championship.
Zane also became youngest person to be
crowned King of The Hill
According to Zane, the
first two runs didn’t go
well. He had an off in the
first. The second was
contested in the wet, but
conditions improved on
the third run. It was on
that run that he recorded
his quickest time of
2:19.63.
On the fourth and final
run of the day, Zane
served up dough nuts,
much to the delight of the
fans.

While a good conclusion is an
important ingredient for newspaper
articles, the immediacy of a deadline
environment means that copy editing
often takes the form of deleting
everything past an arbitrary point in the
story corresponding to the dictates of
available space on a page. Therefore,
newspaper reporters are trained to write
in inverted pyramid style, with all the
most important information in the first
paragraph or two. If the less vital details
are pushed towards the end of the story,
then the impact of draconian copy editing
will be minimized.
