Puppy love and kisses-
sloppily licking and washing my
cheek and all at six fifteen in the
morning!
"Okay, okay," I say to Mittsie,
my cute little Yorkie Terrier. "I'll get
up! Who needs an alarm clock when
I have you?"
I didn't sleep at all last night, my
mind keeps tripping over the
coming day. My emotions are off
7
the charts-up and down, round and
round.
I have this premonition-it's faint,
and harasses me all night. It sticks a
prick of fear into my mind. It wants
to stay with me- this hideous sense.
Focus, I tell myself, my brain is
busy. Focus-but, it's not easy. Just
so many things going on; Mom is
taking Jess to Anschutz 1 this
afternoon-she's showing no signs of
improvement from B-cell acute 2 ,
Doctor Tam said she would text
before afternoon's class, and the

Eldo 3 Competition is only three
weeks away.
I press my phone's side button to
light up the screen and check the
time. Seven a.m., is it that late
already? I need to leave now, or I'll
be late for my last day.

I park in a choice spot which, to
my surprise, hasn't been snatched
up yet-morning spots are usually
really hard to find. I finally
passed my driver's license last
month, after getting enough night
time driver's hours on my Drive
Time Log.
I walk the familiar hall to English
class and sit in my usual chair. The
morning passes and lunch finally
arrives.
A zesty, garlic aroma waltzes
around my nose like rhumba
dancers unhinged and rumbling
10
sounds filled the room. Clangs of
metal spoons, gossip and murmurs
filled the air like an orchestra crazyout-of-tune.
My last day evveeeer and pizza
today too, looks pretty rad. Even the
bread sticks and sausage smell extra
good today. Only two more students
stand between me and my last meal
at good 'ole Platte Canyon High.
Oooooh, I've been waiting for this
day for a long time. Yaass! My
Senior year has been up and down,
it's tolerable, but it's time for me to
move on with my life. After all, my
last day before summer break and
11
I'm waiting on, hopefully, a text
message bearing good news .
I quietly hum and sing the chorus
to one of my fleeky song by Ariana,
"It's coming down on me...
hmmmm...water like ..."
Besides this foreboding, hideous
sense, things are moving along all
right this last day.
And then... out of the corner of my
eye, I see someone familiar in line
behind me.
12
On no, it's Anna, I hate it when
she shows up. She always seems to
have something annoying to say,
FUBB. Maybe I can ditch her
without missing lunch--then I feel a
tap, tap, tap on my shoulder and she
firmly grabs my wrist.
She looks boldly into my eyes with
a fiery look in hers and says,
"Let this sink into your ears...
Before the sun sets today, you will
have a hair-raising, hideous
encounter with that which was
loosed from the fourth seal
opened."
13
My mind numbs.
I feel light headed.
Then a wave of heat hits me like
the feel of stepping out of a frigid,
blustery snow blizzard and into a
warm, toasty room. I fall
backwards catching myself on the
rail.
"Get away from me Anna-you
kook, you're a total nut-job! How do
you think up these things anyways?
Are you trying to ruin my last day at
Platte Canyon?" I say as I march to
my favorite table and plop onto the
bench.
