<strong>THE</strong><br />

Fall 2005 A Leader in Research & Physician Education Volume 9, No.1<br />

<strong><strong>THR</strong>I</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>benefit</strong> <strong>from</strong><br />

<strong>expanded</strong> <strong>THR</strong> <strong>research</strong> <strong>focus</strong><br />

The Texas Health<br />

Resources Board of<br />

Trustees recently<br />

endorsed recommendations <strong>to</strong><br />

broaden <strong>research</strong> and education<br />

efforts within <strong>THR</strong> following<br />

a yearlong evaluation of <strong>THR</strong><br />

<strong>research</strong> activity.<br />

The recommendations include<br />

new leadership for Texas Health<br />

Research Institute. Grant<br />

Cooper & Associates of St.<br />

Louis, a leader in health care<br />

has been engaged <strong>to</strong> help<br />

recruit a new <strong><strong>THR</strong>I</strong> president.<br />

A name change for <strong><strong>THR</strong>I</strong>, and<br />

formation of a new board, are<br />

also planned in support of the<br />

<strong>expanded</strong> <strong>research</strong> <strong>focus</strong>.<br />

Current <strong>research</strong> efforts will<br />

continue, including clinical<br />

trials and product evaluation<br />

and testing services. Renewed<br />

emphasis will be placed on<br />

<strong>research</strong> <strong>focus</strong>ed on key clinical<br />

services and populationbased<br />

<strong>research</strong>. Additionally,<br />

a clearinghouse for <strong>research</strong><br />

opportunities will be established<br />

<strong>to</strong> support investiga<strong>to</strong>rs in<br />

“This is an exciting<br />

time for <strong><strong>THR</strong>I</strong>. The<br />

enhanced <strong>research</strong><br />

<strong>focus</strong> endorsed by the<br />

<strong>THR</strong> Board affirms<br />

our mission and<br />

supports efforts <strong>to</strong><br />

continue <strong>to</strong> build a<br />

premier health care<br />

<strong>research</strong> and education<br />

organization.”<br />

— Peter Beck<br />

<strong><strong>THR</strong>I</strong> Leadership<br />

Council member<br />
