This catalogue presents Made in Kosovo products and services which are currently exported or assessed as being ready for export. It features 128 companies from sectors that have the potential to generate revenues through exports: Wood Processing, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Food and Drinks, and others. The vast majority of these companies export their products and services to various countries in Europe and other regions around the world. Most of the featured companies are members of business and sector associations which are also presented in the catalogue. These main sector associations provide various support to member companies, including advocating with the government on behalf of its members to ensure that the sectors attract new business and investment, encouraging innovation, sharing information, facilitating access to new markets, promoting exports, and providing business support services and trainings on product improvements and international standards. This catalogue was prepared by the USAID Kosovo Compete Activity with the aim of promoting Kosovo products and services and increasing Kosovo exports. This five-year USAID activity aims to promote resilient, self-sustaining market systems and to facilitate Kosovo private sector’s improved competitiveness in local, regional, and global markets. The activity utilizes a market systems approach focusing in three key export-oriented sectors – Wood Processing, Food Processing and ICT – to increase their competitiveness sustainability.

NATIONAL RASPBERRY ASSOCIATION - MJEDRA E KOSOVES

Food Processing

2015

Kujtim Lepaja

The national raspberry association of Kosovo, known as Mjedra e Kosovës, was established in 2015 in Prishtina. The main activity of Mjedra e Kosoves is the

coordination and development of the raspberry sector through local institutions and various donors, at the same time, stimulating production and expansion of

the knowledge to the raspberry lead farmers. The Association represents Kosovo's raspberries in country and beyond.

Currently there are 1300 hectares of cultivated raspberry throughout Kosovo, and over 3500 raspberry farmers, represented by regional raspberry associations,

as well as the national raspberry association Mjedra e Kosoves (Raspberry of Kosovo). Raspberry orchards in Kosovo are new, typically one to ve years old. Most

of the rst-year orchards gave a yield of 3,000 kg/ha. In 2021, Kosovo yielded in total 2,000 tons (this low yield in 2021, cannot be considered as reference year,

due to the bad climatic conditions). These amounts were mainly expo ed to the European Union (EU). Parallel to the newly planted raspberries, new

infrastructure including new freezing units were also established. So far, Kosovo has a solid capacity for storage of 18,000 tons of raspberries.

In order to fu her develop the successful cultivation of raspberries, the Association is testing several new varieties which have proved suitable for Kosovo's

climatic conditions. In Kosovo, oricane varieties can enter into the market in early June, while primocane varieties ripen by the end of July and beginning of

August and continue to give fruits until the beginning of November.

In addition to the planted areas in Kosovo, achievements have been made in the implementation of food safety standards in processing (facilities) and in

production. In 2017 and 2018, raspberry farmers in Kosovo achieved a monumental milestone in agriculture when 496 raspberry producers were ce i ed with

GLOBALG.A.P. international food safety standard for primary production.

The Association suppo s its members to create new local, regional and international markets and expand expo s through pa icipation in food fairs in Europe,

B2Bs, sales missions, and conferences to understand new trends in infrastructure, technologies and varieties. Moreover, the Association assists companies in

the implementation of food safety standards, based on the request of buyers and the interest of companies.

Mjedra e Kosoves annually organizes the International Raspberry Conference in Kosovo, to present the achievements and challenges in the raspberry sector in

Kosovo, region, and all over the world, where international speakers also take pa in the event.
