TANZANIA SAFARI & BEACH

Experience the best Tanzania safari holidays

with KIAfrica Adventure

Tanzania is the best East African safaris destination

a name synonymous with the Serengeti, Ngorongoro,

Zanzibar and of course – Kilimanjaro. With a

population of 55 million people made up of over 120

tribes the country is as diverse in cuczzlture as it is

in geography.

Tanzania covers 945 166km making it the largest

country in East Africa. Located just below the

equator (between 1oS and 11o45’S) most of Tanzania

has a tropical climate although there are large

regional variations. The coastal belt, as well as the

areas around lake Nyasa (known as Lake Malawi

outside Tanzania), are hot and humid. Also you can

experience the luxury Tanzania safari.

Tanzania is the largest of the 3 East African

countries of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. It was a

German colony before the First World War and was

under British administration from 1918 until

independence in 1961. Formerly called Tanganyika, it

formed a union with Zanzibar in 1964 to become

the United Republic of Tanzania.

Experience the safaris in Tanzania the soul of Africa

is the best attraction there are several world

heritage sites Mount Kilimanjaro (Mountain Climbing),

Kondoa rock art site, Ngorongoro Conservation area,

Selous game reserve, Serengeti National Park and

Stone town Zanzibar.

Best of Tanzania Safari Parks and Beach

Northern Circuits

Northern safari circuit is the most frequented by

tourists for two reasons: Tanzania’s most famous

sights, such as Serengeti National Park best

highlight of great migration wildebeest, Ngorongoro

Crater and Mt Kilimanjaro are all a part of this

circuit experience a game drive.

Tanzania's Northern Safari Circuit is most

frequented by tourists as most of the attractions are

fairly close to each other and many of Tanzania's

most famous sights, such as Ngorongoro

Crater/Ngorongoro Conservation Area (a 4-hour

drive or 1-hour flight from Arusha / a 2-hour drive

from Manyara or Tarangire), the Serengeti National

Park (A 6-hour drive or a 1-hour flight from Arusha)

and Mount Kilimanjaro (Kilimanjaro National Park is

a 2-hour drive from Arusha or a 1-hour from

Kilimanjaro International Airport) are all a part of this

safari circuit.

Due to the fact that all the parks, towns and

attractions are within easy reach of one another, one

can tour this entire safari circuit by vehicle with only

a couple of hours in-between destinations.

On a Tanzania northern circuit safari, most safari

companies and independent travelers depart from

Arusha.

Southern Circuits

Southern Circuit are arguably, the hidden treasures

of Tanzania’s natural heritage. These parks are

enormous, with some of the highest concentrations

of animals anywhere in Africa and a spectacular

diversity of wildlife including Roam Antelope, Sable

Antelope, African Wild dogs and colorful birds life.

Tanzania Southern Safari Circuit:

The Southern Safari Circuit covers the largest game

reserves in Tanzania such as Ruaha National Park,

Selous Game Reserve and Udzungwa Mountains

National Park and these have some of the highest

concentrations of wildlife.

The national parks and game reserves of the

Southern Safari Circuit are, arguably, the hidden

treasures of Tanzania’s authentic Africa.

These game reserves are enormous, with some of

the highest concentrations of animals anywhere in

Africa and a spectacular diversity of wildlife

including roan antelope, sable antelope, Cape

hunting dogs, and a multitude of colorful bird life.

The parks include Mikumi National Park (4-hour

drive or a 1-hour flight from Dar es Salaam), Ruaha

National Park (Up to a 10-hour drive or a 1½-hour

flight from Dar es Salaam), Selous Game Reserve

(Between 7-9 hour drive in dry season only or a 1½hour

flight from Dar es Salaam) and Udzungwa

Mountains National Park (5-hour drive from Dar es

Salaam).

The lodges and camps of the south are small and

intimate, with no more than 30 rooms or tents at the

very most. This means there are far fewer tourists in

the south compared to the north, and allows the

area to hold true to the tenets of Eco-tourism. The

travel times between parks in the south are long as

the parks are far apart.

The parks of the south can be visited independently,

or as a circuit combining various parks into one

package. Packages can be arranged using scheduled

air services or as road safaris using 4x4 vehicles.

Western Circuits

Western Circuits are the inland lakes, Lake Victoria,

Lake Tanganyika, Lake Malawi and Lake Nyasa. The

Western circuit is seldom experienced on its own but

is more often an addition to either the southern or

northern circuits.

Tanzania Western Safari Circuit:

The Western Safari Circuit covers the Mahale

Mountains National Park which is home to some of

the last remaining wild chimpanzees in Africa and

the Katavi National Park where safari goers are

privileged to find the rare roan and sable antelope

species.

Lying in the Great Rift Valley are the inland lakes,

Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika. All three national

parks in this safari circuit offer the only safe

opportunities to see chimpanzees in the wild today.

The game parks are Gombe Stream National Park

(by air or road from Arusha or Dar es Salaam or by

train from Dar to Kigoma and then a 1-hour boat

trip), Mahale Mountains National Park (between a 3

and a 9-hour boat trip from Kigoma or a 2-hour

flight from Arusha or Dar es Salaam) and Katavi

National Park (fly from Arusha or Dar es Salaam or a

days drive from Mbeya or in the dry season,

Kigoma).

The habitats of these areas are a merger between

Western Africa and East Africa therefore the

cultures, rainfall and flora are unique to this small

area.

The western safari circuit is seldom experienced on

its own but is more often an addition to either the

southern or northern safari circuits, or both. The

western safari circuit is so remote that travel by both

aircraft and boat is necessary in order to experience

this lovely side of Tanzania.

Coastal Island Circuits

Tanzania is its fantastic 800 km coastline with palm

fringed beaches of white sand and the historic towns

of Dar es Salaam, Bagamoyo, Kilwa, Lindi, Mikindani

and Matwara, along with the exotic islands

of Zanzibar, Pemba Island and Mafia Island.

Tanzania Coastal Circuit:

Tanzania's beaches are some of the most beautiful

in the world where diving, fishing and cultural

experiences are fantastic. Some of the coastal

islands and towns in Tanzania are Zanzibar, Pemba

and Mafia.

One of the great attractions of Tanzania is its

fantastic 800 km coastline with palm fringed

beaches of white sand and the historic towns of Dar

es Salaam, Bagamoyo, Kilwa, Lindi, Mikindani and

Mtwara, along with the exotic islands of Zanzibar,

Pemba and Mafia.

Swahili language and culture trace their roots to the

Indian Ocean coastline. Many explorers, sultans and

slave traders encountered Africa for the first time

along this history-steeped coastline and contributed

to the events that were to define modern Tanzania.

The islands of the Zanzibar Archipelago became

principal stepping stones for the culture that was to

mold Tanzania’s people and their language.

We have covered Zanzibar separately as it is such a

popular destination on it's own or as a combination

safari and beach vacation or honeymoon.

Tanzania Safari Highlights

The Ngorongoro Crater is nestled within an

ancient volcano deep in Maasai territory and is

home to a vast array of wildlife, but no giraffes,

the sides are too steep!

Track chimpanzees in the Gombe Stream

National Park and enjoy an authentically rustic

experience with these astounding primates.

Experience Tanzania from your luxury tent and

enjoy the freedom of a mobile camping safari to

bring you closer to the magic of the Serengeti.

Tanzania is not only about game viewing and

hikes; it also offers incredible beaches, luxurious

beach resorts and a fascinating history with

eclectic architecture reaching as far back as the

original Arab settlers. Sunny Safaris encourage

you to take some time to acquaint yourself with

Tanzania’s other marvels.

Read about the different beach destinations

below:

Zanzibar

Cinnamon; cloves; nutmeg and pepper; 50 km (31 mi)

off the east coast of Tanzania lies the spicy

paradise of the island of Zanzibar. Relax after the

thrills of your safari with a blissful beach holiday on

the powder-white sands. Explore calm lagoon

waters and coral reefs, or stroll the historic center of

Stone Town with its rich cultural heritage.

Pemba Island

'Al Jazeera Al Khadra' - the Green Island, as Pemba

is known, is a mixture of natural wonder, ancient

ruins, and magic! Not opened to foreigners until the

mid-1980s, Pemba is a center for traditional

medicine. The Ngezi forest is home to the Pemba

Flying Fox, the biggest fruit bat in the world. The

ruins of mosques mingle with the forests and

lagoons, while small and large scale farming

dominates its hillier landscapes. Pemba is still one of

the world’s largest clove producers.

Mafia Island

Along with Zanzibar and Pemba, Mafia forms the

Spice Islands Archipelago. 160km (100 mi) south of

Zanzibar, located 20 km (12 mi) offshore from the

Rufiji River Delta, the lesser known and less traveled

Mafia Island and its coral reefs are a scuba diver

and snorkeler's paradise. Its eleventh-century ruins

and varied ecosystems offer visitors lots to explore,

all in a quieter, less touristy environment than its

northern counterparts.

Pangani

At the mouth of the Pangani River in northeast

Tanzania, lies the coastal town of Pangani.

A former hub of the Arabic slave trade, this historic

town is located on the shores of the Indian

Ocean. It remains an important center of commerce

as it is a significant producer of sisal, maize, and

bananas.

Saadani National Park is the only park where the

Bush meets the beach. Located along the coastline

of the Indian Ocean, the park contains a unique

combination of wild and marine life. Here is one of

the few places in Africa where big game has been

known to stroll on the beach, and elephants swim in

the ocean.

Bagamoyo

The port town of Bagamoyo, located 75 km (46 mi)

north of Dar es Salaam, was once the most

important port trading town along the coast of

Central East Africa. Today the town is a hub of ruins

and museums celebrating its rich past. Dhow

building (traditional sailing vessels) is a large focus

in the town adding to its historical charm.

When is the best time to go to

Tanzania?

There is no bad time to visit this country. It just

depends on what exactly you want to see in

Tanzania.

Unlike the four seasons into which they are used to

dividing the year in Europe, Australia or North

America, Tanzania has a dry season and a rainy

season. The long dry period lasts from June to

October. At this time, rains are rare even in Zanzibar.

The temperature mainly depends on the altitude,

although the weather at this time is often warm and

sunny. This is what makes the season the most

popular time to travel to Tanzania.

The short rainy season in November and December

is characterized by bright and sunny weather, similar

to summer, but with frequent rainy days. Then there

are two months of the dry season in January and

February.

March, April and May are considered the wet season.

During this period, the rivers become full-flowing,

and the nature around is green as never before.

Although it is a less popular time to visit, it is famous

for its lower prices, which is very convenient for

budget travel.

For a holiday in Zanzibar,

the best time of the year is from late July to

February, although the weather on the island is

generally good throughout the year.

In order to see the Wildebeest

Migration ,

it is better to choose the period from late October to

mid-August. At this time, huge groups of zebras and

antelopes move from one part of the continent to

another. You can learn more about this in our

dedicated section on migration.

Big 5 safaris can be done all year round. The only

difference is which parks we choose for you.

Climbing Kilimanjaro is not limited to a

specific time,

although it is generally believed that it is best to

choose January, February or September for this.

These months are known for the most favorable

hiking weather. For example, from June to August,

the weather on Kilimanjaro, although not rainy, is

much colder. November and December promise a

rainy expedition. From March to June, visibility on

the mountain deteriorates significantly due to the

many clouds.

When it comes to fishing ,

August to October is the best time to catch tuna,

black and blue marlin and yellowfin fish. From

November to March, you can safely go for striped

marlin and kite surfing in Zanzibar, good wind and

waves in January-February and July. From mid-

December to March and from June to September,

you can count on wind, but not big waves.

Events.

The Kilimanjaro Marathon takes place every March

in Moshi. Professional athletes and amateurs come

to this serene mountain town from all over the world

to try their hand at the grueling race.

Southey za Buzara is a Stone Town Music Festival

in Zanzibar that takes place every February. This

event lasts four days and is the largest African music

festival in the Eastern part of the continent. At this

time, the best musicians come to Zanzibar, seminars

and master classes are held.

The Zanzibar National Film Festival brings together

film lovers every June. All cutting-edge African

filmmakers gather at Stone Town to share new

creative insights.

Safari guides and drivers.

More than one year of practice makes us very

careful and attentive in the choice of guides, drivers

and any staff. Only the best work here, this is what

ensures the perfect service during your trip. The

entire team has many years of experience in the

tourism industry. The safari guides are fluent in

English and Swahili. They also received special

training in schools such as the African Wildlife

College, which makes them safari specialists,

endowed with knowledge of the behavior of animals,

birds and trees. These skills are more than useful

when traveling, because a professional guide will

help you see exactly those animals that you dreamed

of. Guides are not only good experts in their field,

but also friendly, interesting people who can share

many exciting stories and facts. These are local

citizens who feel with their hearts Africa and the

peculiarities of its life, which they can share with you.

Mountain guides are experts in mountaineering in

Tanzania and Kenya. They are holders of a special

license from the Kilimanjaro National Park, speak

English and Swahili, and are able to master at least

twenty expeditions to the Roof of Africa every year.

They are the ones who are trustworthy to take care

of your safety during the trek to the summit and

back.

For each expedition, a team of the best guides,

cooks, porters and other camp members gathers,

who will do their best to make you reach the top of

the mountain as comfortably and safely as possible.

With an in-depth knowledge of grief and the

potential hazards associated with changes in altitude

and pressure, they are responsible for making you

feel safe during your expedition. Moreover, the

guides will be happy to share with you their

knowledge of the flora, fauna and topography of the

mountain. They know perfectly well where to hurry,

and where to stop and gain strength, how to notice

signals of altitude sickness or hypothermia that can

interfere with the ascent. Of course, they know what

the mountain is preparing for the tests, but they also

know perfectly well what feeling awaits you when

you reach your goal. They are guides, assistants and

personal trainers at the same time.

Safari Transport - Safe and

comfortable.

Your safety and comfort are more than important to

us. The vehicles are specially designed for the real

safari, yet they are able to provide you with comfort,

given the dusty and rough African roads.

All safari vehicles are equipped with comfortable

seats, four-wheel drive to cope with the most

difficult road sections, a first aid kit, HF radio, a

sunroof, opening windows and ample space for your

luggage. There are also sockets in the car, you can

easily charge your phones even during safari.

Each of our cars can accommodate up to six people,

and each seat is equipped with a seat belt.

Transport is constantly checked for all technical

parameters, replacement of tires or any other parts,

if necessary. This aspect is very important given the

ruthlessness of the local roads.

Accommodation types.

We offer four different levels of accommodation

during the safari to suit every taste and budget.

From a typical outdoor tent city under the stars to a

deluxe suite, your safari can consist of one type of

accommodation or intelligently combine several

levels for your convenience and variety. We book

both traditional hotels and tent ones, which are a

clear feature of the safari.

Tent hotels are not the standard camping we offer

for budget travel. They can very well be luxurious,

with a bathroom, a large bed, and Wi-Fi access

where possible inside a so-called tent. Given the

great food, these hotels can be as luxurious as the

classic ones.

Super luxury. Thanks to the worldwide renown of the

brands, these types of hotels always offer excellent

service and additional services. If you are looking for

something truly special, this type of accommodation

promises you such an experience. These can be

ordinary lodges, and even tent ones under the stars.

In any case, they provide the very best that Africa

can provide.

Suite. For those seeking five-star accommodation

at reasonable prices, our luxury accommodation

offers lodges and campsites that boast gorgeous

scenery, spacious rooms, impeccable service, worldclass

cuisine, and sometimes even wildlife views.

Equivalent to four and five star hotels, our partners

can offer spa services, evening entertainment and

more.

Luxury lodges are surrounded by some of Tanzania's

finest landscapes, such as treetops, the Serengeti

savanna, the edge of Ngorongoro Crater, and even

right in the middle of a coffee plantation.

Lots of options - but all offer great service and

great value.

Average level. Wherever the hotel is located - amid

the hustle and bustle of Arusha or in the middle of

wild nature, the accommodation of this class, chosen

by us, promises to maintain an atmosphere of calm

and remoteness.

Most often, classic or tent hotels of this type are

equipped with Wi-Fi access, bars and restaurants,

laundry, currency exchange, and souvenir shops.

Features depend on the hotel itself.

This type of accommodation is a great option for

families or couples who want to travel with all the

comforts of civilization, but on a moderate budget.

Along with the classic 3-star hotels, all mid-range

lodges have been carefully selected in terms of

service, amenities and accommodation.

Budget level for those traveling on a budget, we

offer inexpensive lodges and campgrounds that may

interest not only the budget traveler, but also those

who love adventure. Budget-grade hotels offer

European-grade bathrooms and all the usual

amenities you would expect in a budget-grade hotel

in your country. Even an ordinary campsite is

equipped with the necessary amenities and running

water.

In the campground you will be accompanied by our

cook, who will prepare delicious meals during your

trip. The guide will set up the tents while you enjoy a

great outdoor dining experience.

All tent camps in National Parks and Reserves are

guarded 24 hours a day by professional rangers who

will take care of your safety so as not to distract you

from your peaceful sleep surrounded by the sounds

of African wildlife.

Tarangire National Park.

Just outside Arusha, Tarangire National Park offers a

fantastic safari experience all year round. During the

rainy season, the marshes and reservoirs of the park

are filled with water and are a haven for a mass of

buffaloes and elephants. With the onset of the dry

season, animals are forced to move closer and

closer to the Tarangire River.

Tarangire is home to elephants, the perfect place to

meet these giants in their natural habitat. Also in this

park you can take memorable photos of the Tree of

Life - the Baobab, because it grows in large

numbers throughout the territory of Tarangire. In

addition, you can find an oryx, a large kudu and an

ash starling here.

A charming park, where, according to preliminary

estimates, more than 550 bird species have been

found. It is truly a birdwatcher's paradise. The birds

here are very different - from the huge ostrich and

Cory, to tiny weavers and songbirds. Predators such

as the lion and leopard also inhabit Tarangire, and

the lucky ones may well see these cats while

hunting.

the heart of this reserve. The park is the best place

to row during the rainy season and is also great for

safaris all year round. As Ernest Hemingway said,

“This is the most beautiful thing I have seen in

Africa,” Lake Manyara is an ideal starting point as

well as fishing in the Northern District.

In addition to the delightful flamingos, Lake Manyara

is famous for the large number of lions that live in

the trees. Nowhere else in Tanzania you will not be

Kilimanjaro National Park

Home of the tallest mountain and highest mountain

above sea level in the world. Kili is the main

attraction of the reserve.

Mount Kilimanjaro is located 5,985 meters above sea

level and has the most accessible ascents to the

summit. This does not mean that conquering Uhuru

is a small achievement, but you do not need

professional climbing courses or professional

equipment for this. In addition to climbing,

Kilimanjaro offers the opportunity to explore

different types of climatic zones - from the tropical

savannah to the Arctic glaciers at the summit.

Serengeti National Park.

Home of the legendary Wildebeest Migration. The

name Serengeti has become synonymous with

African Safari. The endless plains of the savanna are

home to many animals - lesser known but no less

interesting.

This park is most popular during the Great Migration,

when about 2 million animals move from the north to

Masai Mara before returning to the Ngorongoro

region. But no matter what time you visit this park, it

is always unique for its beauty and wild life. This is

the best option in East Africa for watching lions and

leopards in the wild. Also, the park has all the "big

five". Locals include 9,000 hyenas, nearly 3,000 lions

and over a thousand leopards. This is a good spot

for watching wild predators while foraging. It all

depends on where the animals are at the moment.

Your entire journey will consist of a driving safari

that aims to find the locals. You will definitely not

get bored! It is important to realistically estimate the

size of this park, because it is divided into North,

South, East, West and Central Serengeti. Each of the

area offers a different safari driving experience. In

and around the park, they are accommodated in a

variety of places - from simple tents to the luxury

Four Seasons. The Serengeti can be explored during

the day or stay for a whole week.

Location: 335 km north of Arusha.

Great Migration. June - October are good for

watching predators.

• Hiking in nature

Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Your first impression will begin to form after you see

the unbridled wild rainforest under massive sunlit

clouds. Due to this extraordinarily luxurious nature,

Ngorongoro looks mythically beautiful.

This park is the best place to see black rhinos, it is

also home to the Big Five and a great place to see

lions and buffaloes throughout the year, just like all

other animals. A huge number of animals participate

in the Great Migration , which starts from the North

and passes to Maasai Mara in Kenya. If you head

down to the crater, you will see whole herds of

buffaloes, wildebeest, gazelles, zebras, which are

chased by hyenas, lions and jackals.

A pink cloud means you have reached Lake Makat

and - and right in front of you, thousands of pink

flamingos are imposingly wandering in search of

food. Ngorongoro is also famous for its picnic area.

Just imagine - you are sitting on the shore of the

lake, having lunch and watching the hippos swim

playfully in their pool.

On the periphery of the crater, where the forest hugs

the steep slopes, you can see a leopard and a black

rhino moving through the undergrowth. In addition,

entire families of baboons can be found in the crater

throughout the day. Another feature of the crater is

that it is also home to the Masai tribe, who live in

complete harmony with the wild world. They built

their houses, were born here and live the rest of

their lives in this environment.

Olmoti and Empakai craters ,Lake Nduti and the

volcano OlDoinyo-Lengai offer wonderful emotions

and experiences for those who want to spend more

than one day in the area. Believe me, you won't be

bored!

the Serengeti.

Best time: All year round.

Things to do: Safari, Olduvai Gorge, Empakai Crater

and Olmoti, also cultural tourism.

amazing views.

The Great Migration is an annual event

when huge herds of Wildebeests, Zebras

and other herbivores move in search of

water and food.

This massive hike is sometimes referred to as Planet

Earth's Greatest Show . This peculiar feat, striking

with the endurance of wildebeests and zebras (not

to mention the predators who rush their every step),

is a true miracle of nature, which definitely should

not be ignored.

The world famous Great Wildebeest Migration

attracts millions of people from all over the world to

see this incredible sight. Depending on the time of

year, you have a great chance to witness this show

and remember these unique moments for the rest of

your life.

January - March: Calving Season (South

Serengeti - Ndutu)

During the rainy season, the Ndutu region comes to

life. The rich volcanic soil of this region is covered

with greenery, essential for the survival of over a

million animals. This directs wildebeests, zebras and

antelopes south of the forest to open the calving

season. During the wet season, females give birth

and feed their babies, thereby attracting predators

to visit them and eat a fresh piece of meat. So, a lot

of inexperienced and clumsy young animals end up

on the menu of leopards, lions, cheetahs, and

hyenas.

June - July: Crossing the Grumeti river .

With the monsoon stopping, the shroud plains begin

to dry up and the wildebeest move westward step by

step to Lake Victoria in search of food. The Grumeti

River is on the path of animals and separates them

from such a desired goal. This part of the Migration

is the most spectacular and impressive. Just imagine,

when a huge number of wildebeests and zebras

cross the river, and the locals of the river -

crocodiles, are already frozen in anticipation of a

portion of their fresh food, in addition to crocodiles,

wild cats are also not going to miss their chance to

eat a hearty meat. viewers from all over the world.

These huge sixteen-pound monsters capture their

prey, which comes to the river to drink water, and

leave no chance of salvation. Photographers and

August - November: Crossing the Mara

river .

Since the herd of animals is moving from the

Serengeti to Masai Mara in Kenya, they need to

overcome another obstacle - the Mara River. This

river is similar to Grumeti, as the Mara also acts as a

source of life-giving water and a dangerous crossing

point for animals.

On the one hand, the lions are biding their time, on

the other, the crocodiles. This is the bloodiest period

of migration, but the most impressive. It is this part

of the safari that is most in demand among tourists

As soon as the northern plains begin to dry up, it

bird species in the whole of Africa. There are more

than 1,100 bird species in this country, while in Kenya

there are less than 1,070.

Together with our partners, we will organize for you

a qualified guide - an ornithologist, who will conduct

an educational excursion and introduce you to as

many feathered inhabitants as possible. The

recommended period for birdwatching is the warm

season, when migratory and endemic species can be

in the park at the same time. We can also organize

this trip for you, accompanied by Mike Taylor, a

birdwatcher guide who has over 30 years of

experience in the industry and is a true professional

in his field.

tourists, because it is an unforgettable experience!

Most often, predators prefer to hunt at night, which

means that you have a great chance to see leopards

Wildlife Refugees, so Shadows of Africa has

selected private reserves and parks that are ideal for

this kind of entertainment. Also, a night safari is

with a hike to one of the nearby attractions. These

hikes are a fantastic opportunity to admire stunning

views and unique flora and fauna.

Travel to the Empakai crater .

The territory of the crater is 75% filled with a deep

freshwater lake. This is an exciting day trip, during

which you can admire the beauty of the area and

animals such as buffalo, lake blue monkey and

waterbuck. Hiking offers a magnificent view of the

lake, as well as the shy Kilimanjaro and the Great

Rift Valley. Usually the hike takes 90 minutes (south

face) or 2 hours (east face), with very steep descent

on both sides.

Travel to Ol Doinyo Lengai.

The only active volcano in East Africa, Ol-Doinyo

Lengai - this name was given to him by the Masai, it

means "The Sacred Mountain of God." This volcano

erupts unique sodium carbonate lava. On a clear day,

you can enjoy incredible views from the top of the

volcano. The first requirement for climbing Ol Doinyo

Lengai is that you must start this process at 3 am in

order to avoid the brutal midday heat. This climb

takes about 5 hours, and if the weather is favorable

to you, it is possible to descend into the crater of

the still active volcano before starting your return

journey.

Travel to Mount Legamarut .

On the western side of Ngorongoro, Mount

Legamarut is located, which offers wonderful views

of the Serengeti Plains, Eyasi, and the Ngorongoro

Crater. It will take about 4 hours to climb and

descend to the top of this mountain, which means

that you can add this entertainment to your tour in

Ngorongoro.

Travel to Olmoti Crater .

Ideal for a hiking safari, this crater looks like a foggy

lost world, with numerous waterfalls, birds and

animals. The entrance to this crater passes through

the village of Masai, where, it is possible to stay

overnight, it has become home to large mammals

such as buffalo and eland antelope.

Culture and Tribes of Tanzania.

Although there have been many attempts by the

government to change the Masai tribetrying to take

their ancestral lands and turn them into reserves or

agricultural lands, the tribe still managed to defend

their lands, customs and habits. These customs

include the traditional rituals of transforming a boy

into a male warrior. The Masai are mainly livestock

breeders; they eat meat and milk of their own

production. Traditionally, the Masai people are easily

recognizable by their outfits. They wear sandals and

wrap their bodies in red-blue-black fabric. Women

spend most of their free time doing bead crafts, and

they often adorn themselves with these crafts, as

well as use earrings and bracelets made of wood or

bone. The Masai society maintains a patriarchal

regime where the male elder makes important

decisions ... warriors in the Masai culture is the most

respected and world famous. These brave male

warriors receive many privileges, such as the ability

to wear long hair. The Masai believe in one God -

Engai. He is God in two aspects, the first is kind and

benevolent, the second is vengeful. There is a

spiritual leader in the tribes - Libon, who oversees

order in matters of spirituality, but this person has

no power when it comes to deciding on matters of

tribal importance.

Cultural visits to the village of the Masai tribe. On

your way to the Serengeti, you can spend several

hours or even a night in the Masaev village. A tour of

the village will be organized for you, during which

you will get to know the traditional tribal life, see a

dance performance, and you can also purchase

many handmade souvenirs made by local women

from the same village.

You can also visit the upscale Masai hotel Amini

Life Lodge , and spend an unforgettable day in the

company of real Masai. Here you will find coziness,

comfort and a lot of entertainment, you will learn

how to weave beautiful decorations and baskets,

take part in the ritual preparation of goat meat for

consumption, and much more. All the money raised

goes to help the Masaev villages.

Hadza tribe. With an approximate number of

representatives of the Hadza tribe of less than 2,000,

they are the last tribe to retain absolutely all of their

historical traditions. These people live away from

globalization and crowds, which inevitably attracts

tourists. Men hunt and bring prey home to feed their

families, while women and children gather fruits,

berries and roots to supplement their diet. Men are

especially skillful hunters, their hunting style is quite

inventive and resourceful, therefore it is very

interesting and entertaining to watch this process.

Since hunting is the only source of food, they are

officially allowed to hunt in the Serengeti.

Hunting with the Hadza tribe.

A visit to the village of the Hadza tribe is not only an

opportunity to communicate with representatives of

this tribe, but it is also a chance to try yourself in the

role of hunter-gatherers. You will stay overnight in

the village, and at dawn you will see traditional

methods of real hunting, and you can even

experience it in practice, while the women are

gathering berries and other essentials.

Zanzibar.

The name "Zanzibar" has long been associated with

exoticism. Photos of snow-white beaches, azure

waters and old wooden boats moored along the

coast have become the hallmark of the archipelago,

which year after year attracts hundreds of tourists

with its beauty and mystery. Paradise Island has a

difficult and even a bit dark history. During the time

of the Sultanate of Oman, Zanzibar was a famous

port of the slave trade. It was annexed to Oman, and

the influence of Islam created a special atmosphere

on the island.

This can be seen most of all in Stone Town, the only

city on the island. Noisy bazaars, unusual

architecture, spice culture, which still plays an

important role in the economy of the region, all this

undoubtedly reflects the connection of the island

with Arab culture. In addition, the local Swahili

language is an unusual mixture of tribal and Arabic

languages. It is the history of the island and the

amazingly beautiful nature that includes colorful

beaches, forests and spice plantations that make

Zanzibar so attractive to travelers. Zanzibar is

definitely worth a visit if you are interested in

experiencing an extraordinary mix of cultures and

enjoying an oceanfront getaway. Zanzibar is

interesting not only as an addition to a safari in

Tanzania, but also as a great place for honeymoon,

family vacation or retreat. Every traveler will find

something special for himself here.

Honeymoon in Zanzibar .

Ever dreamed of a honeymoon safari or wedding in

Zanzibar? Tanzania, together with the Zanzibar

archipelago, is an ideal place for such a romantic

event, because it combines colorful landscapes,

wildlife, white beaches and turquoise ocean waters.

We invite you to arrange your wedding and

honeymoon in Tanzania, making it an unforgettable

adventure.

Language.

Swahili is the official language of Tanzania, although

it is common for the country to have many dialects.

You will be glad to know that English is the second

language in Tanzania, spoken by the majority of

residents.

But it is better to familiarize yourself with the most

common Swahili phrases before the trip. This will

pleasantly surprise the locals!

Time.

+3 GMT all year round. The sun rises at

approximately 6:30 am and sets at 6:45 pm.

Locals also use what we call Swahili Time, which is

significantly different from ours. 1:00 is the first hour

after the sun rises (equivalent to our 7:00) and 1:00 in

the evening is the first hour after sunset (for us it is

19:00).

Food and water.

The food in Tanzania is undoubtedly of high quality.

You can choose from traditional dishes in local

hotels and restaurants, or order more familiar

European food. Local restaurants are relatively

cheap. A lot of beef, chicken, fish, rice and

vegetables are served here. You will notice the

influence of Indian and British cuisine on Tanzanian

recipes. In big cities, you can easily find spicy Indian

food or the famous fish and fries in Britain. Zanzibar

can prove to be a culinary paradise for seafood

lovers. They are also happy to take care of the

vegetarians. Tanzania has a lot of fresh

fruits: bananas, mangoes, oranges, coconuts,

avocados, pineapples and others.

Avoid cold and pre-cooked foods. Eat only washed

and well prepared food.

IT IS UNSAFE TO DRINK RUNNING WATER! To

avoid health problems, use only bottled water for

drinking and brushing your teeth. Bottled water can

be bought almost anywhere. On a safari, it is very

important to drink enough water to prevent

dehydration.

Tanzania currency.

Tanzanian shillings. It has coins in denominations of

50, 100 and 1000 cents, as well as notes of 500, 1000,

2000, 5000 and 10,000 shillings.

The US dollar is widely used, but be sure not to pick

up any damaged bills or they may not be accepted. It

is also important that the date of issue of the dollar

bill is later than 2006; money issued before 2006 will

be rejected due to counterfeiting issues. Money can

be exchanged at banks, exchange offices and in

most hotels, although the exchange rate there may

be less favorable.

Please note that currency exchange on the streets

with unverified citizens is illegal and dangerous!

Major banks are open from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm

Monday through Friday and from 9:00 am to 11:00 am

on Saturdays. Hotels and lodges provide currency

exchange services outside of office hours.

Money, credit cards, travel checks, ATMs.

The tax on most products is usually around 16%.

Without the possibility of compensation or

reimbursement for the purchased goods.

ATM ATMs accept both Visa and Master Card credit

cards in most cities.

It is better to warn your bank about the trip so that

you do not have problems with blocking the account

during the trip for security reasons.

Please note that the daily withdrawal limit is

approximately USD 300, which you will receive in

your local currency, Tanzanian Shillings.

International credit cards are accepted in most cities,

hotels, lodges, restaurants, campgrounds. But still,

such cards are little used, and they may not be

accepted in small shops, especially in

small towns and villages. If you want to use a credit

card, you have to pay a 5-15% commission.

American Express, Thomas Cook, Visa and Master

Card are more commonly used than credit cards.

Make sure you bring enough US Dollars with you to

cover the additional costs. Tanzania does not have

specific limits on the entry of cash into the country.

Important information: Travel checks are

not accepted in the country.

Visa and passport.

To enter Tanzania as a tourist, of course you need a

passport and a visa.

Your personal details are required solely as a

formality.

All tourists are advised to check for possible

changes in the rules of entry and visa payment.

Who needs a visa? Anyone traveling to Tanzania

needs a visa.

The passport. To travel in Tanzania, you need a

valid passport - at least another 6 months after your

arrival. Otherwise, you will not be allowed to board

the plane.

How to get a visa? The visa can be obtained upon

arrival in the country at the airport and at the border

crossing. All you need is some time and $ 50 in cash.

Please check prior to arrival if there are any other

visa requirements for you, depending on your

citizenship. You can consult your nearest Tanzanian

embassy.

Non-citizens apply for a visa in advance!

Electricity and electronic appliances.

The voltage in Tanzania is 220-240 V, 50 Hz. If you

are traveling from a country where 120V or lower is

used, please check if it will fit your attachment or if

you need a special stabilizer. Also, the sockets here

have three UK format inputs, so you need special

adapters. You can purchase them at the airport or

large stores and supermarkets. On safari, we advise

you to bring battery-powered gear. In most

campgrounds, electricity is powered by generators

and is completely cut off at night. Flashlights and

extra batteries for your cameras can come in very

handy when traveling.

Safety.

Tanzania is a relatively safe country, but vigilance

won't hurt. The safari sites are very safe. Like many

countries, crime is also common in Tanzania, so

listen to your local guide's advice, especially in some

urban areas. It is best to avoid night walks in cities

after sunset. It is better to leave money, credit cards

and documents, as well as other valuables at the

hotel or in safe inner pockets. Try not to expose

your wealth in public - this can attract unnecessary

attention. It is better not to take jewelry on a trip at

all. Pickpockets are most active in places with a

large concentration of tourists. Criminal activity is

difficult to eradicate completely, so you always need

to follow safety rules, be careful, no matter where

you are

are. Just in case, make a copy of your passport and

leave it in your luggage at all times.

Tips.

Tipping is not only customary in Tanzania, but it is

considered part of the local culture. It's a way to

reward the staff who serve you - from safari guides

to cooks and porters.

We recommend approximately this amount:

- For Kilimanjaro & safari drivers and guides: $ 10-

20 per one per day,

- Assistants / porters: $ 5-10 per person per day.

Health.

There are medical units at the border and at the

Tanzania airport. Travelers who come immediately to

Tanzania from Europe, most of the CIS countries or

the United States do not need special vaccinations

and certificates. If you are arriving from a country

with yellow fever, vaccination is compulsory. You

must have a special document about the absence of

the disease. Before flying, it is worth consulting with

your doctor about typhoid, hepatitis A and B,

meningitis and rabies vaccines. This is in addition to

vaccinations, which tourists usually received

regardless of where they traveled, talking about

measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus and

pertussis, chickenpox, polio and flu shots. It is also

important to seek advice on how to minimize the risk

of contracting malaria or other diseases Malaria is

common in Tanzania. In places, which are high above

sea level (over 1800 m), such as Kilimanjaro and

Ngorongoro, malaria is rare. However, this disease is

present in places that you can pass while traveling.

Please tell your personal doctor if you are traveling

to Tanzania. It is not enough to just mention Africa,

because the countries of the continent are radically

different. He will advise you on whether to take any

preventive measures against malaria.

The risk of AIDS transmission is no higher here than

anywhere else. Mosquitoes do not carry AIDS in

Tanzania. There are also many highly qualified

doctors from the USA, Europe and other African

countries working in the country. The citizens of the

country are carefully checked on this score. Most

hotels and campgrounds are in contact with Flying

Doctors (Association for Rapid Escape in Extreme

Situations. Those who are going to go hiking or

climbing the mountain should definitely consult a

doctor and check their health.

Do not forget! Diseases such as problems with the

spine, blood circulation, diabetes, hypoglycemia,

bowel or kidney problems, asthma, low or high blood

pressure, head injuries, heart

diseases, cancer, epilepsy, blood diseases, hernia

dislocations, sprains can make climbing Kilimanjaro

dangerous or even impossible. It is imperative that

you consult a doctor before traveling.

The minimum age to climb Kilimanjaro is ten years

old. Although there is no maximum age, it is

important to remember that this is a rather

demanding and difficult distance. Travelers under 18

or over 60 should consult a doctor without fail and

find out if such a trip is suitable for them. Your heart

rate should be lower than 100 beats per minute. If

your heart rate is higher than these values, you

should get a doctor's confirmation that you can

make such a trip.

ALL our Safari and Climbing Programs include Flying

Doctors Lifeguard Insurance for the duration of the

tour!

Tips for a safe and enjoyable journey.

Tanzania, like any other country, has rules to follow:

- It is not allowed to sunbathe topless, urinate in

public places, sell / buy / use drugs or swear.

- It is advisable to avoid telephone conversations

when you are at the bank.

- It is forbidden to export from Tanzania plants,

animals, seeds, minerals, archaeological finds, corals

and products made from turtle shells, elephant tusks

or rhino horns.

- Without special authorization, it is not allowed to

photograph government facilities such as military

bases, airports, police stations, etc.

- There is no special dress code for safari. However,

some lodges may require trousers and shirts for men

or dresses for women for dinner. In nature, you

should wear clothes of neutral and warm colors -

brown, green, khaki, beige, so as not to distract

animals. During the safari, we will cover long

distances, so it is worth dressing lightly and

comfortably. But because of the cooler evenings,

you need to bring warmer clothes as well. Tanzania

is a conservative country, don't dress provocatively!

- Animals are not allowed to feed during the safari.

Also, while observing them, you should not make

loud sounds. Always listen to your guide's tips and

instructions! Never get out of the car on time, if you

have not been given permission to do so!

What to take with you:

- Backpack with zipper,

- Warm pullover / sweater,

- windbreaker,

- comfortable hiking shoes,

- a long-sleeved shirt and pants,

- sunglasses and a cap,

- sunscreen, lip balm, insect spray,

- camera \ binoculars,

- batteries and charger for the camera

- torch,

- necessary guide books,

- mobile phone and charging,

- Required documents.

First aid kit.

- Prophylactic drugs for malaria (only as prescribed

by a doctor;

- Anesthetic and antipyretic;

- Antihistamine for allergies and insect bites;

- Pills for colds or sore throat;

- Medicines against diarrhea;

- Medicines for rehydration after diarrhea and

sunstroke;

- Insect repellent, sunscreen, lip balm and eye drops;

- Sprays or poultices (scarlet, for example) to treat

sunburn and insect bites;

- Antiseptic for cuts and abrasions;

- Alcohol for cleaning small wounds;

- Bandages and plasters;

Almost all lodges / campsites have telephone and

Internet services. Internet access points can also be

found in Arusha, Dar es Salaam and Karatu. All our

cars are equipped with radio communication.

Tanzania has four mobile operators: Zain (main),

Zantel, Vodacom and Tigo. They all offer roaming

services. Mobile coverage in Tanzania is good

enough. You can buy a SIM card with a deposited

account from $ 5 to $ 50. Mobile operators also

offer mobile Internet. In extreme cases, your relatives

can call the numbers of the receiving party or write

by e-mail.

HOW DO WE GET KILIMANJARO AIRPORTS

( JRO)?

As a local travel agency in Tanzania, we are not

authorized to market international flights. You will

therefore need to book this part of your trip to

Tanzania on your own. As such, no compensation

can be claimed in the event of delay or cancellation

of your international flights.

Additional costs related to any flight delays or

cancellations remain your responsibility.

Flights are easily arranged into Kilimanjaro, from

European gateways like Amsterdam, London,

Frankfurt, and Zurich or via Nairobi, Dubai, Abu

Dhabi, Doha or Addis Ababa.

– Kilimanjaro International airport ( JRO) is easily

assessable with direct flights on KLM, Qatar and

Ethiopian Airlines,

British airways connect via Nairobi Kenya airways

Turkish Airlines with a change in Istanbul Fly Dubai

and Emirates connecting to Dubai.

We do not recommend flying through Nairobi,

because Nairobi Airport is often uncomfortable, and

transfer times can sometimes be very long. It also

has a reputation for poor baggage handling and

delays in transferring baggage between flights.

Turkish Airlines, Air Emirates and Qatar also fly into

JRO now, but these flights often involve long delays

and flights leaving late at night for UK travellers.

However, climbers travelling from the US often

report better service and experiences flying with

Turkish Airlines, Air Emirates and Qatar, so we do

recommend these flights from North America.

For main Tanzania access points of Kilimanjaro, Dar

es Salaam and Zanzibar.
